little something i wrote enjoy It's the depression of rejection The happyness of hearing the one yes The cries in her lies The smile that follows denail My shaking lips before our first kiss The awkward mistake on our first date But we first laughed from that I love how were both fans of the same bands How my deja vu thought is you ^the thoughts I wish to have with us.. I'm irish from kildare and wrote this little poem in about 10 minutes on a car drive back home (i'm 16) thank you :)
I don't understand the point of the lyrics but in some way I feel them...as long as the guitar accompanies them. I heard Josh Groban sing it and I couldn't but think it was just a put on.
you dont get the lyric? the crux of it is this; a guy is thinking of why galileo might be so obsessed with looking at the stars and the night sky - and the answer is simple and very moving. it wasnt science that caused galileo to wonder about the heavens, it was love.
To poison oath: you are totally right! Josh groban may not have written this song, but he does offer it up as a prayer. Beautifully said. And to those who like this version better, that's wonderful! Either version is absolutely beautiful, and both singers should be held in high regards.
To everyone putting down Josh Groban, think about the lyrics
~ He looked up high and often sighed/ and sometimes cried..
~ Who dreamt up someone so divine/ Someone like you and made them mine?
And then ask yourself, Should this be hummed with a guitar like Declan, or should it be a naked, passionate plea to God? Should it be sung with plucky cool, or raw, unfettered desire? Then listen to Josh again.
Declan’s version is a song. Josh’s is the prayer, the assonance of a heart enraptured by love.
@PoisonedOath Josh's version is a valid interpretation of the song that is so well written in can stand being played in different ways; just like prayers can be said (and meant) in more than one way while still being no less impassioned.
@PoisonedOath It wasn't meant to be sung as a prayer, Josh Groban sings it like a prayer because everything he sings sounds like a prayer. Prayers are for the weak and fearful, those who are terrified of the truth, and the truth is prayers are nothing but time wasted obsessing over a fairytale, and that religion was created purely to control the savages. God is the biggest money grabbing scam on the face of the planet and there's not one single scrap of evidence to prove otherwise.Your welcome.
What kind of a fucked up world are we living in when a song like this is not properly appreciated I do not care what this man has done before this or does after but for fucks sake some one show this beauty to the world. I'd love to hear Adele sing this?
I dont like using it because it's overused by people all the time but this song is the song of a genuine genius. I do not have the answer to, however, similar to Galileo, why Declan is not receiving a lot more recognition. I quite like it this way though, a diamond in the rough. Beir bua Declan.
I remember this from when i was 11 and my parents went to see one of his gigs and i saw a freind of mine commented on this on facebook and it brought back great memories
I have listened to both Josh and Declan and they are both wonderful in their individual way of Interpreting this beautiful song which was written by Declan! Thank you to both of them for their awesome talent! Beautiful souls!

Josh Groban covered this on his new album, "Illuminations," so I thought I'd come and see the original. As a scientist, I find this song offensive, actually. It seems to imply that it is odd or surprising for a scientist to fall in love, as if we weren't human or something. There is such a broad-based anti-intellectual bias out there. I often feel alienated because of others' hostile reaction to me as a scientist and this just rubs it in.
I heard Eddie Reader singing this a few weeks ago in Feakle Co. Clare and she introduced this song as one of the most beautiful. Declan O Rourke is must be the most romantic man alive - to express feelings as he does - powerful. A real gem
