  • one interesting idea what I have tried to find out so far with no sucess- is it possible to take a win with Parthia aganist Macedon using about the same armies what you and Marcus used in this battle. I have tried, using Hillmen and some Eastern Infratry it is even quite simple to route Levy Pikeman; phalanx pikeman are harder, but the royal pikeman are the badasses.

  • ...........WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!

  • How long did it take you to come up with the education of pain and misery at the Macedonian School of Sarissa for Gifted Courses thing? As long as it takes to say?

  • @Cornbinks I forget, really - I made the video three years ago now. A gifted corpse deserves the best education, though.

  • the greeks are sooooooooooooooooo good

  • @MegaChristaras greeks are actually boring and inflexible. imho. The infantry is solid but untactical and rigid, the cavalry non existent archers ordinary.Apart from arranging your infantryh b4 battle on right terrain , there is hardly any challenge. but as i said thats my opinion.

  • @sushanalone the solid inf makes them unbeatable just like you said , the cavalry is fast and great , and the macedonians have the great sarissa spears that makes they incredibly strong

  • Your an awesome commentator.

  • @laga1928 Thanks, dude.

  • This is indeed the best commentary I have ever seen. My god man! Instant fan and subscriber! Found you through HeirOfCarthage. Great job mate!

  • lmao your vids are hilarious i subscribed after i watched this one lol

  • Are you planning any videos on Shogun 2?

  • i couldnt stop laughing it was funny as fuck and enjoyd it so much :)

  • Funny as fuck! XD love the commentary. Awesome in a flat toned way :p

  • I loled true this comentary

Its just one of the best comentarys ever

  • The best, by far, RTW commentary that I have ever seen! It seems at times as though you're reading Aristotle, or the chronicles or Alexander himself.

But goddamn it, 08:50, the pikemen!!! :D

  • My god, my god, best commentary video I have ever seen.

  • @Dalarna3 Thanks, dude.

  • Nice vid. But I dont like the way you underestimate the Parthians...beware!

  • do you play on 10 or 15k

  • @Setenza4 I usually played on 10k, but I forget the exact denarii on this one.

  • Love your casual humor and flat depressing tone

  • So funny, nice battle. ^^

  • i did the modded battle before and it shows mecedonian phalanx don't stand a chance against sassanid heavy infantry(axe) and elite gaurd(hammer), of cause it was hybrid mod from both barbarian invasion and original rtw.

  • 6:48 - 7:10 haha lol genius commentary. i think pom is better at playing... but cluny definently has better commentary...

  • 6:48 - 7:10 haha lol genius commentary

  • I wanna more videos like this :)

  • Eastern infantry is only good for pushing battering ram.

  • u r so fucking funny

  • man, that was the most awful Parthian army I've ever seen... Eastern Infantry? really??? a single unit of Cataphract? seriously??? Bedouin Horse Archers instead of the superior Persian Horse Archers? why???

seriously, your opponent just didn't stand a chance with such a sub par Parthian army, no matter what tactic he tried to use...

  • @HeLL12aiseR EXACTLY! this guy thinks he's good for playing a shitty player, wth! Parthia fucked macedon up so many dam times... parthia was always superior

  • lol

  • It's really hard to listen to that accent.

  • only one unit of mounted archers? I would think there should have been more. I noticed from this and another video that your armies will like you, or try to kill you.

  • OH MY... what funny commentary XD

  • i love you commentary its very good good vid

  • Anyone deploying troops while playing Parthia is either a genius or an idiot - there's a thin line dividing those two...

  • Oh what, you're by far the best commentator I have ever seen, truly sublime. Also, incredible dark humour, that I can't help but giggle at.

  • you'll make a great armchair general. You've got the voice

  • Armchairs the world over answer the call to my standard.

  • lol my men love me they will do anything for me...woooooow

  • awsome vid, would love to see a vid of u losing though, just to see how u manage it

  • You'll find what you're looking for in Rome v Carthage, Greece v. Carthage, and TWC Tournament video no. 3 of 6.

  • Also Macedon v Armenia, now I think of it.

  • Great commentary. Plz post some more battles :-)

  • good comentary and the battle as well!!!

  • cluny is alive! long live cluny! ;)

  • where were the parthians from

  • Northern-ish Iran, as I roughly understand (and I claim no special knowledge). They were loosely swapped between various empires until they really came into their own after Alexander's Persia broke up. Rome never conquered them.

  • wow..what game is this man? i wanna play it

  • Rome: Total War, an RTS/Strategy game from 2004.

  • damn, this game looks cool because you have likt so much solders..and it shows them all..how much can u acutally have at one time? like 10,000?

  • yes it's possible. I actually had 14k men on screen at one point in time. although i had to turn down my graphics setting a little bit

  • If all settings are on low on my CPU I could hold 16k.....On High I can hold 10k

  • With my new computer I can hold 30k :D !!

  • @ClunytheScourge1 they did, only when they were conquered they were called sassanids

  • best commentary ever

  • lol man u have some good humor

  • I try my best.

  • macedon had a great empire. now look at them, as big an Montenegro

  • yeah...same applies to the Persian empire...i mean Persia isn't even a country anymore, i think its just a province in southern Iran.

  • what game is this i reALLY WANT TO PLAY IT PLZ TELL ME

  • Rome Total War

  • Rome: Total War...

  • i played the game out a few times with a few factions but i might play it out with partia once too.

macadonia has great pike man they are effective against almost everything. But there only problem is that they are not effective on long range. mounted archers are very good against them. But they need to be covert against frontal attacks from rival horse man. :D i love this game i think it is time i try to play it out with partia for now egypt the romans even the ghouls were nice.

  • "Parthian Beat Macedonian , made them to leave Persia"

Sheesh, what are they teaching you kids over there in Iran?

Sure, you could say that the Achaemenid Persians fought the Macedonians led by Alexander, but Parthia of the Arsacid dynasts existed alongside the Hellenistic Seleucid Empire, an exclusively Asian-centered kingdom which existed after Alexander's death. Please, know facts.

And as usual, this guy's videos have great commentary!

  • WTF

    learn some history u noob

  • what ever u said doesn't make any sense to what i said

i said, after conquering the Achamenid empire by alexnader, it was another tribe of iranian people who were known as Parthian that ruled by Partha

which came and beat macedonia inIran and that was beginning of their dynasty.

so therefore , they were ruling entire of middle east and a bit part of europe and they have progressed till turkey where they have encountered with romans.

  • Parthian Beat Macedonian , made them to leave Persia

Parthia is one of the greatest empires in world history

  • actually Macedon under alexander the great conquered persia, and added it to his empire,Evan outnumber 5 to 1 in cavalry and 2 to 1 in infantry, macedon still one

  • I also kind of wondered why the eastern infantry sucks so much, but it seems that on huge unit size the eastern infantry is probably better in terms of cost effectiveness, even with worse stats, since on huge unit size they're 240 men strong per unit compared to the afgan hillmen who are 160 men strong.

There's also a rather similar case in M2TW in the danish faction, one of the best Danish infantry units is essentially a viking peasant unit with AP axes and huge unit size.

  • So serious...ha

    he just screams "ENTHUSIASM!!!" "EXCITMENT!"

  • Not unlike Tourette's syndrome, except without the obscenities.

  • I enjoy your battle descriptions and wit with your commentary. :D

Much more nice to watch than PrinceOfMacedon's battles.

  • Groovy, TinyCoconut - did my best.

  • they "enthusiasm" which you use for your jokes is just too hilarious

  • Thanks, fredy, good to know it's actually working when I get all ironical.

  • i love ur jokes

  • Thanks 5az.

  • i love how you get into the role and how do you keep a straight face when you do these commentaries!

  • old iranians the parthians and later the sassanid dynasty fighted against romans 800 years using heavy cavalry, for those who read books google KAVEH FAROKH who wrote the book elite sassanian cavalry

  • ahaha, your commentary is sooo funny. but totally love your tactics except the slight mistake you made :)

  • is there anway of me being accepted into that school you were talking of? i love their graduation ceremony.

  • Sorry, it's too exclusive - you really have to know someone who knows someone if you want to get killed by a real Macedonian phalanx. Elitists.

  • ahhh darn i really wanted to get in =]

  • Oh and PAHLEVANEIRANI, calm yourself down he's just having fun making us laugh he's not trying to be a real general lol

  • Ah yes this is one of your better videos cluny love your dry wit (doesn't compare to some of my scottish humor though ah how I love province rivalry) XD

  • you should be a writer

  • Ah, but what would I write about?

  • you seem to be very knowledgeable on what happens in batte and after it.

  • what a shame PARTHIA HAD THE POWERFULLEST ARMY CAVALRY AT THE PAST THE PERSIANS WAS UNBEATEBLE NOW A WANNABE SITS BEHIND HIS PC AND ACT LIKE HE IS GENERAL AGAINST PARTHIA!!!

  • It's a video game.

  • watch your manners m8, u r talking to the respected clunythescourge, and rtw, is just a game, so chi-lax.

  • chill out man!ITS JUST A GAME!!!!!

  • entertaining commentary!

  • this was scripted... XD

  • Not quite - I don't script the commentary, but I do stop the voice-recording regularly while I think of the next thing to say.

  • what denarii amount do you usually use?

  • 10K-15K.

  • Yes cluny. Eastern infantry is 120 soldiers

  • GG mabey when I get a new cd card we can have a friendly fight some time?

  • lol i love the monotone humor

  • They are going to commit suicide due to post-traumatic stress syndrome lol hilarious

  • I take it, you're a redwall fan, Cluny? Oh and I prefer your vids to Princes'. Your humour is vastly superior.

  • Thanks, Mini; and yes, Redwall was one of my favourite books when I was a child.

  • ha ha paper into a shredder, awsome vid

  • A gruesome death.

  • they were sent packing

  • And only one piece of hand luggage a head.

  • Your comment about the parthian "graduation ceremony" is pure gold!

  • It's a proud day for their parents.

  • sent packing

    lmao

  • You are absolutely hilarious, you realize that?

  • Thanks, yeerk. This video seems to be the one most people enjoy the best, anyway.

  • will yoiu make more rome vids?

  • Nope, that's it, no more. I did 51 in total.

  • why you stopping

  • I really don't have the time anymore to bring these videos up to standard.

  • aaaaah Why?

  • Superb videos cluny.

In my videos i will try to act as your heir :P

    Cluny The V 2nd

  • Flattering indeed.

  • Go check it out!

  • That comment was refering to the commant on fre arrows by Cluny.

  • It's always good to hear that people have been actually enjoying this stuff.

  • i like the commentary. great vid

  • Thanks, rad.

  • gg i saw u in 1 of pirnces videos

  • Thanks.

  • commentary was excellent mate lol

  • Yes, added to the excellent commentary is his voice/dialect wich is perfect for this kind of commentary! 5/5 to all of your vids!

  • Thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • The game is Rome: Total War.

  • you are the epitome of dry british humor

  • love the witty commentary from your vids, cluny. you deserve a show or something.

  • Agreed, and a shiny new car, the admiration of the prettiest girl in the room, and 12,000 American dollars cash.

  • While it is a bit unnecessary, I would like to point out, that it was not the Persian attacks or defenses that stopped Alexanders rule of Asia.

    But of the Indians.

(though, what we call Asia minor today, was Asia back then. So he did succeed, in a sense)

  • i thought its cause hes troops wanted to go home. when they regroped he wouldve conquered Carthage

  • That is true. He was stopped at India. Not by India. My mistake. Though, he would have had little chance against India, as it had one of the largest populations, even at that time period.

  • great and informative battle! Is it just me or are flaming arrows greatly effective against armor? Or am I just imagining it in my fights due to the fact that it looks a lot more theatrical when a horse goes up in flames instead of the simple death throe animation? Very intertaining vid.. I like your additional statements beyond just the battle tactics.

  • I'm not sure about armour-penetration, but they arrows have a slightly greater attack stat when flaming (though they shoot at a reduced rate of speed and are less accurate). Your insight into the fact that that the kills are more visually noticeable and so make more of an impression is a good one.

  • Sort of like an e-net troll

  • I don't know if you'll read or so see this. But I love your videos, I think I watched all of them. Love the stuff you put out, keep up the great work, and the great comedy :) *goes back to watching more* -- Will you by any chance be playing Empire: Total War? And if so, since steam is required, mind if I add you? :p Once again keep up the great videos, wish to see more.

  • Thanks, it's encouraging to know people are enjoying them. I'll get around to playing ETW eventually, though not until I've updated my rig and that will probably be a year or so after its release.

  • Thanks for replying so fast, too bad to hear about getting ETW so late. Although if you do/when you do start to play, hope to catch you online.

  • I think i will lay off roast camel tonight as i think it wont be good for my sinuses

  • Or for the camel, for that matter.

  • Hey Cluny...what exactly is the difference between the n00b box and the formation you used here?

  • I attacked, instead of passively trying to outshoot my enemy from the inside out - I put the weight of my pikes in the front, with the rear troops intended only to delay and discourage rear strikes for as long as was needed for the front to take effect, instead of seeking all-round protection - and I left plenty of space for the archers to actually shoot instead of cramming them together and expecting them to outshoot enemy archers who could form a long thin line in loose formation.

  • I only asked because I copied this formation and tactics in a match today...won the battle but got called a noob for using it by some clan guy. But I did everything that you said distinguishes it from the noob box so I suppose it wasn't lame.

  • Oh, that's fine - and as for him, of course, a clan-tag doesn't really mean much. But there's nothing necessarily wrong even about a real n00b box in the right circumstances, i.e. if the enemy's missiles have been destroyed, or he has lots of chariots. It's only its use as a strategy for the whole battle that usually doesn't make sense - the name being because it's usually novice players who try that. But a second phalanx line isn't strange. Alexander did it at Gaugamela.

  • This is the greatest of your videos, only because of the commentary.

  • Thanks.

  • lol i love the commentary :D

  • Thanks indeed.

  • aw, you should have made all of the phalanxes in almost a perfect square, like the way alexander did in his campaigns, and place flank guards on the flanks so that the parthians don't outflank you. if you did that, this would have been even more awesome.

  • you have good comments =) i wonder how a toasted camel smells :D

  • You should toast a camel and find out. This would be an interesting experiment.

  • haha =) i most meat you in battle sometime =) i would have a good enemy for the first time..

  • I think your vids are much more entertaining than prince of macedon's, your commentary is just so much funnier and more in-depth :D

  • Thanks, I try my best, and there will eventually be more if I can just get around to it.

  • Pikes need Bowmen. Cavalry is unnecessary. Good strategy! Still you could have taken 2 more Bowmen instead of the Cavalry.

  • Maybe, though the cavalry ended up being more useful than someone would expect after their early disaster, since the enemy kept chasing them for so long and so kept his own horsemen's attention occupied while I was still dealing with his infantry.

  • LOL,cluny your opponent could have made of more super-heavy calvary instead of investing in inferior hillmen.

  • Agreed, that would probably have smarter unit choices for Parthia. I don't think I've ever played as Parthia without taking at least 4 Cataphracts.

  • lol, graduation ceremony for gifted sarissad corpses of eastern infantry. You are very witty Cluny

  • Well, perhaps it makes the transition into death easier for the poor dears if we give it a happy name.

  • This game still beats Medieval 2. Medieval 2 is more challenging so I'm sticking to that more often.

  • evrytime the best game

  • Thanks - now that I've got all my old videos back up on Youtube since my shutdown, I will start producing new ones again.

  • shit i lost aLL my old videos =( do you waiting on empire totalwar? with ships and more!!!
