i got a namco controller for a ps1 from a pawn chop for 5 bucks its the ridge racer controller with a steering wheel its pretyy cool as soon as i saw it oh balss that kicks ass then went to a second pawn shop and got a ps1 console all cords working accept lid wouldnt close so just have to sit stuff on it great great day reminds me few monhs before same place got a sega master system 2 now have x3 rounded ones and 1 squarish 1 and bout 50 games i love your stuff !
panzr is right, this controller transforms the Wipeout games. Its advantage in Namco's Ridge Racer games can be debated, but neGcon wielders will destroy d pad players in Wipeout. Not so healthy for your wrists, though.
If you open the controller up, the reason for the shitty d pad is obvious. Space inside the controller is too tight for a decent one. It doesn't matter, you aren't supposed to use the pad. It works well enough to adjust pitch in the Wipeout.
Forget about the JogCon it's useless as a controller, even with Ridge Racer 4 it's very poor and difficult to use well...I only have for it's novelty value
The NegCon is a must if your into the Wipeout series...I've been using a Negcon with Wipeout since 1996...I'm on my third one though as the analog button potentiometers always wear out
great series of reviews¡¡¡ , and great controller , i will buy one for play f1 95 , y question is , u can use it ina ps2 with a ps1 game compatible with negcon?
That is unless you get a black Negcon, which is a lot smaller in profile. Problem is, they're rare and they're expensive -- unless you luck out like me and find a mint one on eBay for 44 bucks like I did about two weeks ago.
I got mine in the box for 2.50 at a local store. i hate having to cough up a bunch of cash for controllers since im a cheap ass lol but i wouldn't mind having one just to mess with it. i still wish they had a better D pad though
@AlphaOmegaSin I don't understand why you go on about the D-Pad when the controller is designed for racing games where the twist is used for steering, I'd assume the D-Pad is there solely for menu navigation.
if you ever get into the wipEout series of games it is there that you will appreciate the neGcon, wipEout 2097 and wipEout 3SE are the best of the series imo
I SOOOO have this controller! Playing the original Ridge Racer with it made such a big difference in playing. A slight learning curve to understand the nuances of twisting to drive, but easily mastered once you get the hang of it!!
Hmm, now I wish to dig out my PS1 and play Ridge Racer...
I like when some retarded idea comes up and never looks like it should fly. And then never flies. I will try playing with that one day to see what it's like. I just wonder if the guy or guys responsible for the design of this thing were high. But I've come up with better ideas when high. I'm just too poor to make them happen.
D pad meant digital pad. I imagine a bunch of drunk programmers in some Tokyo bar or whore house, thinking that this idea was great. It can't be worse than the Dreamcast D pad. That was bad, compared the the Genesis or Saturn d pads. You can't have everything I guess.
can you tell me the name of the song from the intro it sounds cool

I have one of those controllers, very weird and awkward to use though.

The mighty NEGCON was one of the most innovative controllers to come out in its day.
It's ANALOG buttons (the ones in the concave bit!) were great as accelerator and brake! And steering was an absolute joy with it's unique design.
I've had a few steering wheels in my time but I'll always miss the NEGCON. : (

It's the ONLY way to play Wipeout.
