I suspect this was actually filmed in a different year, so the dates given are a little contradictory. Just look at your calendar for the dates on which there is no Moon in the predawn sky. Sept. 8-20 look about right to me. New Moon is on the 8th; and by the 20th, the Moon sets more than two hours before sunrise.
RIP Jack. I hope they have enough episodes to continue to piece together a program once a week. I saw this program some 20 years ago. It would always come on very late at night for 5 minutes. After I saw it, I would always go outside and see if I could find anything. He will be greatly missed and hopefully they can continue his legacy by updating his website, and replaying the relevant episodes.
God, I keep tearing up, and I only managed to catch Mr. Horkheimer's show during my freshman year in high school in astronomy class. His enthusiasm just sucked me in. I can't believe he's gone.
I think in honor of the man we should begin referring to the Summer Triangle as the Stargazer Triangle.... With the feeling felt here and all that he has done for astronomy, it seems fitting that a new Summer and Labor Day Tradition should be to find the Stargazer Triangle....
A nice guy and he will be missed. I remember the first time I saw him. I was tired, it was a hot night. I turned on the TV and his wonderful show and haunting music brightened my mood immediately.
Methinks Jack has been nippin the sauce too much lately. At :28 he said it would occur the last two weeks of Sept., but at 1:08 he said it would occur the first two weeks of Sept.
@Mal1234567 yah, or maybe he just had a lot on his mind bringing this great video to you for free. He showed the calendar with the weeks marked out. That should clarify the dates enough for most of us who aren't "nippin the sauce."
I remember when I was a kid, Jack Horkheimer was on at 12am where I lived and I would sneak out of bed turn on my little black and white tv just to watch his show! I love his show! I'm glad he's sharing his clips here!
I wish that I could watch the programs back in 1986 when he helped me find Comet Halley Mar. 31 of that year.

Almost everything I know about the night sky is because of Jack "StarHustler" Horkheimer. Job well done, sir.
