The technique in this video should definitely be revised. Double gloving is contraindicated, and the sterile field is crossed over quite a few times, the fingers touch "dirty" then touch the tube as it's being inserted, and so forth.

It highly depends on the person, their pain tolerance, why they're even getting one, size of the opening versus the available catheter sizes, etc.
