  • My goodness!

  • Don't forget Ricky Skaggs, I have great respect for him

  • What a great respect each other on the stage. Top guitar players because top men inside.

  • There is no question these boys are freegin great but Danny Gatton's got the edge...how do I know you ask? After 72 year's on this earth and 55 year wacking on Fenders I ought to know.....back in the 50's Phoenix Arizona was a hot bed for pickers...that's were I learned......

  • Who cares? It is beautiful music played by the cream of country guitarists.

    Big Brian

  • If you're a guitar player it's really a bad idea to give Danny Gatton a solo.

  • @BeltwayGreg No shit, huh? Damn, both those other cats can play the shit out of their guitars, but Danny just floors 'em. Too bad the audio is so lackluster, you can't even discern all the intricacies of his playing here.

  • @BeltwayGreg... Boy did you hit the nail on the head....Danny is and was in another zone....and I'm pretty damn sure he knew it.....

  • @BeltwayGreg or Danny Gatton for that matter

  • @BeltwayGreg - just a matter of personal preference. These are all masters and of the three of them, ONLY Vince is a first rate blues player.

  • That Danny Gatton lived about 7 houses from my dad in Newburg, Md. Banks Odee Rd or something like that. I'll never forget my dad telling me there's a really famous guitar player that passed away down the street. Man I wish I could have seen him.

  • I was lucky enough to see Danny in Balto,Md in the fall of 1988 at the Congress Hotel. He was part of a back-up band for this singer named Johnny Appleseed and he just blew me away and inspired me to go back and re-evaluate my old country licks and some rock-a-billy type playing. In the next 4years afterwards my speed and accuracy improved 10 fold-thanks to watching Danny-a true inspiration for every guitarist, in my opinion!!!

  • Amazing! Probably the best version yet!! Three of the finest guitar pickers in all the land -they just simply don 't get enough promo-they have a razor sharp edge,a patent on their styles-super excellent!!!Whewwww!!!WGERE'D MY SOCKS GOOOOO!!!

  • Why does Vince Gill never play like this on his albums?

  • @chooseyourblues its not what sells-- crooning does apparently

  • Absolutely superb! I've always loved Danny and Albert but continue to be amazed at how well Vince plays as well. Thank you and cheers!

  • It took me 2 months to check my page and this is @70sforever1 i read your comment and i respectfuly disagree Albert Lee is Great Don't get me wrong but he sounds the same on almost everything he does no matter if it's that Ernie Ball he's playing or if it's that Bender Telecaster Vince Gill has got Range If it"s that 53 Tele or the Black and Purple Stratocaster or even that Les Paul Gibson he'll play every now and again range is something that Albert Lee has not like Vince and Danny.

  • @TheSkaggs54 Don't forget that Vince was heavily influenced by Albert, and Vince is financially set for life. Albert will be 68 this year and has to stay on the road to feed his family. So when you are on the road for 9 or more months on the road you might stick to the same formula as well. He has to bring the house down every night so he can keep playing and make a living.

  • @DollyLindaLou he's got kids at 68? bad move albert

  • WOW! Does it get any better?

  • @roadrulz No it cannot get any better [can it ?] Legends past and present. Just love this stuff !!

  • Real nice stuff. Always love to hear and see Albert. Such a happy picker, man. Thanks for this.

  • gotta go wth Gatton here

  • Nobody's better.....they're just different! These guys are ALL part of a HUGE crowd known as " The Best ".

And that...was some serious picking. If you sat still through that, you weren't listening...

  • AWESOME video!

    Thanks for sharing!

    Very best of wishes!

    GinMillBill

  • Danny kickin' in @2:45...gosh, how great he was and so sad he's no longer with us.

  • this is the formula for world peace: serious fiddlin'. love it

  • Vince Gill is By far the Greatest out of them he has the Best sound and he continues to get better everytime you hear him No Disrespect to Albert and The Humbler Himself but i Say it's Vince.

  • @TheSkaggs54 - - all 3 are incredible but I have to say - Albert has a little edge - his style is more unique but I love all 3 - RIP Danny.

  • As far as I can tell, Mr Albert Lee is flat pickin' each and every note! No help from any other right hand fingers...dig THAT!

Mr Gatton has ideas on top of ideas on top of other ideas that nobody will every copy...and he was just warming up...lawdy...

AND.. not a bum note from any of those three pickers....

  • @MrGoldtop007 Actually Albert uses his little finger on his right hand in combination with the flat pick, which makes it harder to tell what he's doing altogether.

  • How the f isn't Danny better known? Crazy.

  • I love being able to stumble upon something recorded all those years ago and finding it new an exciting. Hey, did I see Pete Wasner there on keyboards? Who's fiddling?

  • Not too shabby! Haha! Amazing!

  • Vince Gill favors RIVERA amps, just in case......

  • Makes me want to smash my guitars into tiny bits and give up.

  • I'd say Danny has the most personality in his playing, but, omg these guys are all amazing

  • danny killed it!!!

  • and the guy int he shadows lurks out and chops both their heads (no offence love vince and albert) just thought his ride was killer lol

  • As a guitar player, I'm always curious about every piece of gear.

But, as a guitar player, I know that this song would have no less "WOW" if they were using Charvel guitars, old Crate amps, and DOD pedals.

I also know that I would still sound like me (and not an ounce better) if I played their gear.

  • Comment removed

  • danny gatton blows - albert blows back and vince well he just blows...

  • thats down right hot

  • Hey, they're all good players but Albert's solo really goes somewhere the others don't quite reach! Amazing.. Albert Lee, probably the best country style guitarist ever! Px :))

  • @pixiemark7 .....I agree man....as killer as we know Danny and Vince are......and as old is Albert is here still....wow....I think his tone is by far the best in this tune...and his solo REALLY was a lot more than just riffs and fast technique.....it really said something:) Man, that cat STILL has it.

  • Chicken slayin'

  • The drummer is Martin Parker

  • Can anyone tell what amps they are using? Albert a Musicman, the others Fender?

  • @LittleMopp

Gatton used Fender amps, I think his favorite was a Deluxe Reverb. I would guess Gill uses fender also. They are pretty much standard for this sort of sound.

  • @lkb3rd Hi, Vince Gill favors Rivera amps!

  • I love these always new and inventive melodies of Alberts style! I could listen to him for hours.

    AND: I do it. :)

  • @LittleMopp right he never sounds the same twice, always fresh.

  • Well its obvious that Vince Gill can pick a country lead....but I just cant stand the guy. Albert and Danny make this vid worth watching though. Thanks for posting

  • If you are learning to play the guitar.. you certainly have something to aspire to in this clip.... unbelievable talents ALL..... True Masters!!..... [ ps: we miss you Danny ]

  • The only thing this video is missing is Brent Mason. Then it would be absolute perfection.

  • @Sn4pDr4gon -- and Brad Paisley!

  • close thing, but I reckon Albert smoked 'em....lol ;-)

  • the drummer is dennis chambers??

  • the drummer is dennis chambers??

  • @avalos222930 The drummer in this video is Martin Parker

  • Guitarists don't usually give me goose bumps, but these guys did!

  • the worse part is you kiddoes only know who gill is sssssshhhheeewwwww we aare yo kidin GATTON and LEE

  • All sick sick sick guitar players. Like the gentleman said, sit back and suck on a snow cone type thing. Albert Lee is so natural at his art, what inspiration. Gatton was a chicken picking freak of nature and Gill was and still is a feel monster.

  • @allanjenny it's like the 3 of them dropped by one night whilst cruising the Universe and had a bit of a jam to show us lesser mortals what can be done on a Tele

  • @allanjenny throw James Burton into the mix and then all the best would have been on stage

  • wow! awwsome! plus i think that 3rd guitarist is the late Danny Gatton!

  • the 3 headed godzilla monster of chicken pickin,,,,,

  • these three together? I think Im gonna passout...and there taking it easy on us.who needs nukes?

  • why is the spotlight just barely on danny?!

  • OK - I quit

    Big Ron

  • hey check this wild stuff out i promise it will blow your

mind! jerry brightman and steve pittico on you tube

  • this is what Shredding SHOULD be called.

  • wooo good ole country pickin.....!!!!!!

  • ...Albert Lee is such a great player...saw him years ago with the EC tour that featured Albert, Clapton, and George Terry which made an awesome trio.

  • They are guitar magicians! All my love and respect to them!..and thanks for posting!:)

  • LOVE THIS!

  • I'm generally a blues guy myself, but damn I respect these guys. Just great playing.

  • Listen to Steve Piticco doing it...LOL

  • Mr. Gatton's Elmira St. or what ever its called, is one of the very best GTR disk ever.

    Peace

    JaK

  • @RUBYMAIPRODUCTIONSJM

You are right, it's called 88 Elmira Street. But if you think that CD was good (and it was) you should look into some of his others. I have just about all of them and I can tell you each one is better than the last. These three are all smokin' hot.

  • DAAAAAAAAAAMN !!

  • O-Oh!! here he plays his his Signature Guitar!!

this is great, thanks much for sharing!! ^^

  • hey forget about it. lol

  • holy shit that was insane

  • I had seen Albert on stage twice, first time in Hong Kong. Second time in Vancover, B.C. CANADA.

  • How hot is this. 3 of the best guitarslingers of all time. I really appreciated Albert's son's comments.

How good to see the much missed Danny Gatton in action. It is appropriate that these 3 guys are playing together. To the best of my knowledge, Danny was mentor to Albert & Albert was mentor to Vince.

  • that was awesome,,i love you tube,,,

  • Albert,Danny,& Vince are great pickers and like the other cat said Doug Seven is also great, but it seems everyone forgets about Canada. You have award winning Steve Piticco whom is fast and great....

  • TELE HEAVEN FENDER CLAN!!!

  • Wonderful stuff...met Danny Gatton while recording in NYC back in '83...Albert Lee...lord, have mercy!...and wow, Vince Gill...never really a fan of his stuff but what a fine, fine guitarist...like I said, wonderful stuff!

  • Watching this speaks volumes as to where Brad Paisley gets his chops. These guys are fantastic.

  • Lee and Gill are undoubtedly superb technicians but when I watch this clip I find myself wishing they'd shut up and let Danny develop his amazingly complex musical ideas which are so much more than just country twang.

  • outstanding!

  • This is great stuff! Have you seen this dude Doug Seven? He is every bit as good as these pickers and has a bunch of lessons on guitar PICKIN'! I have been playing for 42 years and can't do it like this...makes me sick....but dammm they're all good.

  • @realairpersonality Absolutely. Doug Seven is probably the greatest electric guitarist I have ever seen/heard - not that it's a competition. I loved Albert Lee's son's comment (ilovejacobmiller) because this music is all about fun, friendship, feeling great, energy and melody. Great stuff!

  • Great stuff, although Albert no longer plays a Tele that often, these three guys along with James Burton define the Tele style that so many of us love.

  • DANNY GATTON could play any style Jazz, Blues, Picking, Surf, Rock 'n' Roll...

Check out his song Nit Pickin' and be prepared to be blown away!

One of the all time greats!!!

  • WOW! An anagonist was telling me how good Danny Gatton was (I'd heard of him but didn't know exactly who he was) so when I saw I was going to see some vids with him, Albert Lee, & Vince Gill, I knew I was in for a treat!

  • These guys make it look SO easy.....

  • I have sooo much respect for these country music guitarists. I'm a rock 'n roll guitarist. Even a caveman can play rock 'n roll. The distortion covers up a lot of the mistakes you make. Hammerons and pulloffs make the amp do all the work. These guys play clean, and straight into the amps and flatpick most of their stuff. Every note they play has to be bang on to sound good. Their skill and fretboard agility is amazing. My hat's off to these guys.

  • @gtrefghuk Hey, Man, that's very cool of you to acknowledge! I feel the same way.

  • I'm a bass player. I would have loved to lay it down for these three guys! This is REAL COUNTRY!

  • Butt ugly guitar that Albert is playing(Looks like an Ernie Ball custom), But that don't mean nothing. The guy is AMAZING! Danny Gatton(God rest his soul)....WOW! And Vince...SMOKIN!!!

  • @gtrefghuk

Albert plays an Ernie Ball alright, an Albert Lee signiture model.

  • @gtrefghuk Yeah--it is an Ernie Ball guitar...an Albert Lee signature model, to be exact. You used to play Teles equipped with a B-Bender though.

  • Danny is by far the better player and musician.

  • @ValiRossi Gotta agree with you. Listening to Gatton's stuff on 88 Elmira Street. F#*king AMAZING!

  • @gtrefghuk Check out Danny's work with Joey DeFrancesco. Namely kindred spirits.

  • Wow!

  • Very nice line up indeed...shame they don't show Danny til almost 2/3 into it..nut you sure can here Danny all over it before then...some pretty nice comments about the guitar line ups there too.

  • danny wins!!! by far the best!

  • So so SO dang good!!!

  • that gave me chills!

  • Danny is the better of the three here and Vince is as good as Ricky Scaggs on a Tele. That's really saying a lot too. Check out Johnny Hiland and Luca Olivieri doing a guitar shop jam. No backing, just pull two new guitars off the rack, tune them and play as good or better than this trip. Luca is better than Vince and almost the equal of Albert. Johnny in my own opinion is better than Gatton.

  • cruseing music

  • sound a bit like

    ww the garden orchestra com

  • I'm a Gatton and Lee fan from way back but didn't know until a couple of years ago Vince could play like he does; it's great to see them all on stage together.

If you want to see Gatton really in the zone:

    danny gatton crosscut saw

    ....trust me

  • I sometimes think that Vince expresses his admiration so much for the likes of Albert that it detracts from people's appreciation of his ability.

He is, of course, a fantastic guitarist and singer.

What a shame we won't see this amazing line - up again.

  • if you have this you should have the john hugey part if so could you post it

  • Amazing just flat out amazing.

On day one of a job interview for a cameraman that is going to film bands, someone hiring the person should determine if they can tell who is taking the solo and who is playing rhythm. I'm sure Vince Gill would agree on this one.

    Big Ron

  • Both Teles have that great sound. Too bad Albert Lee has to use those shitty fucking Music Man guitars!

  • That's your opinion - Albert originally used a Tele, but the Music Man's been his guitar of choice for years. BTW, Danny's sound on this track is nothing like Vince's.

  • sounds a bit like

    ww thegardenorchestra com

  • Danny Gatton committed suicide on Oct 4, 1994. He was amazing and great talent!

  • someone had to tell the dumb ass camera man that Vince was playing, not Albert

  • Not the camera man's fault. The director.

  • Where is Roy Clark in this list of fast pickers?

  • dead for years

  • Roy Clark is still alive and picking.

  • That's amazing....I've thought him dead for a long time. Thanks for correcting me.

  • Shee-ott, thar's some pickin'. Each time a new guitarist took a solo, I thought he surpassed the one before him. Then the next guy stepped in... I was impressed with how quick-fingered and soulful Vince Gill was.

  • So much for the HelleCasters!!!

  • Jaw-dropping. This video features three great guitarists, two great voices and one great songwriter.

  • I can't even think as fast as these guys play. Just amazing!

  • its such a shame that the audio in this video is so poorly presented. You can hardly hear Lee's or Gatton's guitar in the mix at all.

Nevertheless, the caliber of picking in this vid is phenomenal. I love watching this thing over and over again. Danny's technique just blows me away.

  • l've learned a few licks off albert and vince, this danny gatton is great also.

  • grga888 what a twat you are. Cloth eared with a boyfriend who can type.

  • T'wernt No Flys On THAT!!!!!!

  • is that dennis chambers on drums?!?

  • yeah, and you're a clownshoe...

  • aPsolutely? you sure about that? :-) Back to school for grga...... grga.... the whole day through.... :-)

  • Trying to decide who the best guitar player is -- at this level -- well, it really just becomes a matter of taste. I love(d) Danny Gatton - absolutely incredible - though I think I prefer Albert Lee's style.

  • Ha! Not a guitar player in the bunch...lol.

  • Man, did those guys blow the roof off of the joint!

  • Probably the sickest 3-guitar lineup ever.

If you ever held a pick in your hand, all you can do is sit back, have a sno-cone, and drool a lot. The link between James Burton and today's Brad Paisley/Keith Urban b-bender phenoms.

  • I give a hearty tip of the hat to Doug Seven.

Too many guys to mention - Joe Maphis for one...But I LOVE Albert Lee the best...just does it for me!

  • Danny G. is so iconic.

  • How does Albert sing so loose and play so tight at the same time?

  • yeah well big deal......jerks

  • Who cares about the camera crew! Watch the Video and amazing talent dumb shit! Chance Caffey. Suck it!

  • You cant hear them or watch then cleary..Thats the whole point you cant hear the guitars because the sound man turns up the wrong guitar that is not soloing, then the camera man shoots the wrong guitarist playing..

Now stop cursing and insulting people ,

I just made a comment about the technical screw not doing a good job.. the musicians were great.

  • I agree 100%..i posted something similar in the othr vid on youtube from this show...soundman was an asshole when it comes to DG's solo... obviously AL and VG and diggin' it because both of them are nodding and smiling the

outragous stuff DG used to play...i have DG's original hotlicks video and two of his albums, not very easy to come across in Ireland and he was an amazing player..that said i love AL and VG as well along with a lot of the other country players getting a mention on the boards..

  • Boy the camera and sound crew of this video desrve to be shot.

  • For sure. It is clear that they didn't have a clue who was soloing at any given time.

  • Great pick-me-up song.

  • . . . outstanding ! ! !

  • Man!

  • What a treat. This is better than a milkshake on a hot day in August. Thanks for a wonderful post.

  • you got that right.

  • EEEEEEAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Without a doubt the best 3 guitar lineup you'll ever see. (2nd place goes to Buddy Miller, T-Bone Burnette and Marc Ribot on the Krauss/Plant tour and 3rd to the Springsteen-Lofgren-Little Steven team).

Gatton, Gill, and , in particular, Albert Lee, set the stage for the current crop of Brad Paisleys and Keith Urbans out there. Fast and furious and frickin' phenomenal.

  • @altcountryguitar i'd have to disagree with you on the springsteen-lofgren-little steven being in the top three. but these three up here are certainly on the top.

  • tizounne89 i will like to play like that oh boy

  • Don´t forget Arlen Roth.

  • I wish I could play like that. Time to go practice some more...

  • Wow, just a little bit of talent on that stage! It's too bad Danny Gatton didn't, or couldn't get the help he needed before he took his own life.

  • Super...i worked with albert in 2004 on my cd in the hillls...we recorded several tunes...and iy was super to have him there and play together, a great guy and guitarist:)

  • Wuthout a doubt, Albert Lee is my favorite.

  • so good

  • Sheesh. This wasn't a guitar competition. It was three friends who have much respect and adoration for one another for what each of them does amazingly well in their own right. Albert is my dad and he has a huge framed and signed poster of Danny Gatton in his den at home, because he admires him as a player and misses him as a friend. Vince is also a very sweet guy. None of these men would speak ill of the other and would not want to be compared. They are all fabulous musicians.

  • If none of you have Albert's version of Arkansas Traveller from the "Speechless" album.well !! After the most amazing celtic pipe stuff (who on earth played it it's amazing).Albert just delivers some really cool licks, then hits the double stops and finishes with one of the weirdest muted out of time blastsof all time.surely impossible,

  • Absolutely. There are a world of "fast," but boring shredders out there who would give their left arm to play like Albert, Vince or Danny. Touch, tone and theme/melody are more important than speed, and A, V & D had all three, and speed, by the bushel.

  • Exactly the point.

  • @ilovejacobmiller Amen to that!

  • @ilovejacobmiller Albert's pretty hot on piano too. Does Karen play anything? How about you?

  • @ilovejacobmiller Albert Lee is your dad? You must be awfully proud... I first became aware of him on an LP by saxophonist Eddie Harris called "E. H. in the U.K." He was featured on a cut, that also featured Jeff Beck, called (I think) "I'm So Tired," and he owned it, stole it from both Harris, and, most especially, Beck. Made me re-think guitar. Seriously.

  • @ilovejacobmiller ok, your Dad is awesome!!!

  • the three fastest guitars?

  • lol!
