in terms of overall athleticism, Meneses was better than Duremdes...the other areas of the game I give it to Kenneth but no doubt that he patterned his play after the Aerial voyager....
Samboy started the skywalking (hang-in-the-air and dunking) trend in Pinas basketball(dunking was rare at that time).....but the real and better skywalker was vergel...He mastered what Samboy started.

Vergel was a hybrid of Samboy and Alvarez...he was better than the two, but his reign was short-lived...and Samboy loyalists wouldnt accept any other skywalker unfortunately..thus Vergel was underrated for his talent

@jan279 , samboy was a physical type of player that's why he was plagued by numerous injuries throughout his career, but both of them possess a great leaping ability and the ability to make a shot during crunch time, the only advantage vergel has against samboy is his passing ability.. and since i idolized players with excellent passing ability like magic johnson and steve nash i favored vergel meneses...

I remember the Sunkist Alaska rivarly, circa 96-97.... Syempre Sunkist ako all the way. And Meneses was my favorite.

Meneses was the last of the truly aerial artists who could lift the crowd to its feet with his hangtime moves, Duremdes and Ravena are good at that too but not as exciting as the aerial voyager.

"Aerial Voyager" #18 Vergel Meneses the best ka talaga idol, magaganda ang mga laro excitement panoorin, napakasimple at ndi mayabang na player, salamat sa mga move, sayo ako namulat sa paglalaro ng basketball kaya i love this game dahil sayo idol, baka may nabibili na dvd copy yung mga highlights nya

this shows that pure bred filipino athletes are great,,a game can be excited and competitive without having 1/2 or 1/4 or 1/16 blood mixed with other races...just like mani pakyawww!

idol ko yan si vergel meneses, i remember in my elementary days grabe pinapanood ko talaga ang lagat ng laban nyan, mula nung pumunta sya ng redbull at nung huli ay sa ginebra pero nung nasa coke o sunkist pa sya talagang superstar yang idol ko, until now ginagaya ko pa din ang mga galaw nya at bukod kay mj ay sya pa din ang inspirasyon ko sa pag lalaro, kahit shooting guard ang posisyon ko gusto ko pa din maging slacher tulad nya. sana pag bigyan ako ni coach^^

Samboy is great no doubt,lahat ng mga high leaper sya idol pero wag kayong magagalit,mas magaling sa kanya si Vergel Meneses kasi all around ang laro nya at Ace player ng Sunkist considering andon pa si the bull .

@jan279 , samboy was a physical type of player that's why he was plagued by numerous injuries throughout his career, but both of them possess a great leaping ability and the ability to make a shot during crunch time, the only advantage vergel has against samboy is his passing ability.. and since i idolized players with excellent passing ability like magic johnson and steve nash i favored vergel meneses...

@jhayarmagbuhos - I totally agree with you, Ron Jacobs use to Call Meneses before as one of the best asian player that time. Na notice mo din pala yung copycat na monicker ni JYAP. shame on Mico Halili for giving that monicker. Yan si Halili kac Fanboy yan ni YAp, back in the UAAP days pa all the way to the PBA.

the man with the thousand moves,,this guy can hit the 3 point,,penetrate,,slash,post up,,have eyes on the back of the head,create a play...a lot lot more..cant forget what ron jacobs said about this guy,,he is the best and only player he had seen in the pba all around player,,,di pa nya coach yun"shame on the so called man with the million moves today..prove it not on the press...i think joseph yeo has a little bit of meneses moves....lupet talaga basta bulakenyo
