@donaldcallen ...great therapy, I will do it to myself because LL is my favorite Chopinist, but LL probably won't, he figures he has his Chopin down already...by the way, did Rach ever record this sonata?...
Of course, there are differences in taste and artistic expression. However, when one veers too far adrift from what is regarded as proper performance practice, it becomes painful to the lister. Yes indeed, there are the Lang Lang apologists who claim his "genius" and "greatness" as a pianist and will shoot down anyone who dare say something negative about him. However, it doens't take a specialist in music esthetics to come to the conclusion that this interpretation really sucks.
...he is much more effective here than in the first movement...and the technique certainly shows off...if the usual "pressures" are not kicking in...like having to pander to his dismal "fans"...LL actually can actually sound fairly decent...people usually say "LL can't play Chopin"...this is basically true...this movm't is very untypical of Ch...LL literally can't figure out how to crap it up...plays it almost straight...and it almost works...

It's amazing how much more tolerable Lang Lang is when you don't have to watch his ridiculous theatrics.

@joule162534 agreed.

This is pedestrian and boring. Argerich or Pollini are so much more passionate.

GIlels is the best with Martha. I find Lang exagerates the ends of every phrase so it sounds rough.

I dont like the rubatos and pauses. They are -in my opinion- too many and some at the 'wrong' place. I didnt listen up to the end.

think of lang lang what you may (I'm not his beiggest fan either) but this is truly pristine, heartful, flawless and beautiful.
