Dear Me , Naseeb have sighted the moon ( my sister too) on Thursday 9th of Sep 2010. i have given shahadat in masjid qasim ali khan with other 19 men's and 2 womens.

Question:

1. Why does Masjid Qasim Ali Khan's Jirga always end up with moon sighting? They have not missed a single sitting where they didn't get up without declaring the moon as seen.

2. Based on point # 1, the Islamic calender will move 10 days behind in 1 year alone if this is how every month is calculated.

3. Why does Q.A.Khan's Moon sighting conflict with modern research?

4. How come only 15-20 people are able to see the moon out of 18 crore people of Pakistan according to Q.A.Khan.

What if it goes against "aqal" ?

Moon is even harder to see in Peshawar as in Lahore or Karachi.

More likely is this is a political "sighting" of the moon which has been going on for 60 years - and for years been used to sow dissension.

But you are right they are not handling it correctly - the "witnesses" that the Masjid Qasim Ali Khan presents should be brought before a tribunal and the extent of their shahadat should be examined.

Also it should be examined if it is the same set of people every time (i.e. bought for an paid "aadi mujrim" every year).

It would not be surprising if there is a pattern there.

Instead the ulema discuss it ad-infinitium which will not resolve the issue. It has to be resolved for once and those who present deliberate "jhooti gawahi" should be challenged publicly. So the matter becomes clean in the public mind.
