fosheng i think your being a bit overly critical, comic fans have a love of the classics, as the new adventures unfold so we drawn to learn about what came before, i have found myself seeking out the early classic adventures to see how it all began, with many comic hero's, so if fans are like me this new outlook for the Phantom will bring about new fans to the character and a return to the classic storys, Skull Cave will always be home to many a childs dreams of adventures in the years to come.
I love the new Phantom stories too and yep there are still plenty of classics selling everyday on eBay, more then I'll ever be able to get my hands on. The Phantom had to evolve eventually otherwise I don't think it would have sold as well considering the tough competition now in the comic world. Frew publishing Australia still brings out the classic stories and the newer Scandinavian stories. I like Moonstone's Phantom as well. Its all good even if slightly different. Just fascinating.
Phantom is not all about fighting two-three punters with a wam-bam-boom or defeating lions and tigers. Phantom is literally the ghost who walks, he's not a man but a concept. A promise to oneself to fight injustice, crime and immorality. Phantom is a legend on the verge of extinction. First the movie didn't do any justice to it, now the new comics is going to kill phantom once and for all.
EVen Falk had the Phantom do the things they have him doing in the new comics. The Phantom as a concept exists to figth any kind of injustice, let it be terrorism, a petty theft, or jungle hunters.
No other comics character, not even Superman, Batman, Spiderman have such a big inventory of permanent characters and places. Most of the places and characters in these 3 superhero comics are on ad-hoc basis. Use-n-throw. Whereas phantom comics while introducing new mean sort of characters, always brought something new about phantom's life, his people and places. Stories flowed smoothly between the characters and the places without need for force fitting anything.
I don't get the confidence after seeing this trailer that lee falk's creation is in good hands. For a simple reason that I belong to the old generation of phantom lovers who grew up living the vicarious experience of Skull Cave's warmth, Devil and Hero's company, Bandar Pigmies' security, immense treasures (of two types), Rex-Kit-Helois & Diana Palmer Walker, Deep Woods, Kilawi, Bangala, Ancestors.... The list is endless. Literally endless.
Very good points. However, this trailer (like most movie trailers) focuses on the fight scenes, explosions and cool splasch pages. To get a fair opinion on Moonstone's Phantom comic you should pick up a current issue and see for your self.
Dammit they have taken out the audio on this. It was such a good track too.

Read the first 9 comics bro... nothing great

The Moonstone comic only started being actually consistantly GOOD after the first 10issues.
I dont think there is a Phan who would dislike such a powerful story as "invisible children" was.
