you the best man, my math teacher teaches stuff fast and sometimes, i don't get it especially this topic but when i watched this video, i used it to study for my test and i got 102.77% on it. my mom and my teacher were so surprised they asked "how did u get it so fast" becuz they knew i was having problems with the topic. i answered. Patrick helped.
Can you please come down to Australia and take my maths class!? My teacher just taught us this and she taught it in such a complicated way and we've been doing this sort of stuff for about 3 weeks now and i havent understood it and now i understand it within a couple of minutes! THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU! i have a maths test tomorrow so im using your videos to teach me eveything my teacher 'taught' me. :D
thanks brother,we need people like you in the world who like to help the man kind, your videos are helping huge students like me who are thankful to you.
You taught me more about this in this six minute video than my 8th grade math teacher did in 17 days of school. And yes I do pay attention. Thank you! :-)
Thanks a lot. I had a student teacher for this chapter in math. I couldn't adjust to how he taught the class and I didn't understand what he was trying to say. :3
why is the point-slope formula neccessary to remember?, What does it show that the slope intercept formula doesn't? y-y1=m(x-x1) <-- what does this have to do with slopes, how do I read it?
Very helpful, thank you. Math is much easier when I learn by watching a video by myself. Thanks again to you and of course the invention of YouTube (and video technology in general!)
u said it doesn't matter if we consider any of the points as x1 y1 cuz we will get the same answer ( negative ) as the slope of a line goes down .. am talkin about the 2nd example ,, but matter of fact it will make a differences cuz it will give me a positive value !! can u explain that please , am lil bit confuse
me too thanks for taking the time out to learn us this many thanks again great stuff...why are you having problemswith breathing in through your nose ?
can you come replace my math teacher shes been trying to teach this like the whole year but i tune out abou 30 seconds in, and i get on youtube and learn it 6 mins
omg i finallt get this ...evry other person who taught it on utube freakin was too confusing and dint answer the dam quetions i had.... thanks sooooo much
@penguinrancher hey can i ask u a question cuz i dont get this 1 thing du u noe wat to du if they DONT give u the points and how u plot the points...do u jus randomly pick...cuz i noe u cant do that ull get diffent anwers all the time plz help i hav math test this monday!!!!!!!
@ leaundriea the slope in ur first equation is positive one....and in ur second equation is -2.......becoz u dont have to divide ur y coz it is already one...u know what i mean....i hope that helped....lol
As long as one point is (x1,y1) and the other is (x2,y2) you will get the same answer. You can choose either point for (x1,y1) and the answer will turn out the same. Just watch your signs.
@hoopz2598 let me explain that. It doesn't matter which point is the second one and which is the first one. It just has to stay that way for the x and the y coordinate. An example: P1(1,2) and P2(7,3), the slope m= (3-2)/(7-1) = 1/6. Ok, and now the other way arround: P1(7,3) and P2(1,2), the slope m = (2-3)/(1-7) = -1/-6 = 1/6. As you see, negative divided trough negative = positive.
@hoopz2598 it doesn't matter which point is 1 and which is 2 as long as you use corresponding points. so whichever you choose as y1 you must use the corresponding x as your x1 and likewise for y2 and x2.
I have a question: if you have found a slope of a line using m=y-y / x-x what if your answers comes out negative meaning like for example -4/-9 does that mean you need to change the slope to 4/9?
Could this video also be tagged with 'gradient', took a while to find. :-) Great stuff as always! This stuff really makes maths fun. Think I'll take it up as a hobby.
I was in Algebra I, just learning how to find slopes. I learned the derivative formula (lim n->0 ( f ( x + n ) - f ( x ) ) / n ) before the y/x (rise over run) and I always got the slope right. My teacher was astounded at how I used the derivative. She gave me a nice little curve to solve and I even got that correct (I distinctly remember it as 2x^3 - x^2 + x + 1 ) which would be 6x^2 - 2x + 1 =]
Thanks for teaching me the derivative formula, and also the slope.
Im guessing yes but I thought I would just ask anyway
