Here is a tip. Color the caps with black marker. If the focal point is there, it will burn almost instantaneously. Sadly my laser that I built only lasted about a month before it became really weak.

If you look at the caps, you will see that I have colored mine black with a sharpie.

No, they are 1.5V alkaline Duracells.
