I was watching this game when he collapsed on the bench.. I was in shock. I had actually just met him a few months before at a racetrack in Waterford, Mi...
Detroit for life....it's more than a team it's family and that in Clydesdale fans,friends,everybody who is a red wings fan knows the wings are tough and don't give up without a fight.
i was at this game, i am season ticket holder for the spirit. He had a sellout crowd of over 5,500 chanting his name and applauding him. The game is a great cause, support it.
@Koopa3000 Detroit is really good about treating their players right. You give them the effort on the ice and stay loyal... they'll keep you around off the ice when it's time. I can't remember a single player asking for a trade except for Fedorov....but that's because he was a greedy bitch.
@llSgtScopell remember konstantinov? jeez wings have had bad luck with d-men but probably the classiest team in the NHL--minus Kris Draper or Sean Avery but you get the picture
@Koopa3000 that's one of the best things about the wings organization. if a player has a career ending injury or retires, the organization offers them every opportunity to stay with the organization. Fisher, Yzerman, Draper, Kocer, Ozgood, McCrimmon (R.I.P.) all played for the wings and have had roles within the organization to name a few.
I have been a Red Wings fan my whole life, and know almost everything about them (for an 11 year old)....But can someone tell me the sotry on Fischer....I just a few days ago I'm like, "What happened to Fischer?"
He's still only 28 years old and a potential comeback shouldn't be dismissed just yet. I think he is still leaning towards eventually returning to the ice once his health is completely stable.
His health will never be stable. He has a heart condition that cannot be cured, and therefore, sadly will never be able to play at NHL level ever again.
Yes, he is retired now. Jiri Fischer is the Wings' Director of player development, serving as the conduit between management and the draft picks. This is a video of him participating in a charity game in Saginaw, MI. The charity game took place to raise money for defibrillators devices like the one that revived him to rinks, schools and nonprofit agencies across mid-Michigan.
Jiri was such a great defenseman!

Good thing is they didn't abandon him even though he can't play in NHL anymore. He now is director of player development for the Red Wings.

@zippolight2002
Yep he wanted to be the best
Only way he'd be best in Detroit is if Hasek, Yzerman, Shannahan, and Lidstrom left

I doubt it, if he was able to come back he'd have come back by now, apparently he has a permanent heart condition.
