lovely and moving!however the start & ending promotes racial isolation, which is unfortunate.so she's meant to shun or despise white ppl now cause she's seen what went on in the past?in the beginning everybody was happy inc.her, except the old man,who held on to his grudge and passed it on to her & the others, preventing them from enjoying the conditions all the slaves dreamt about achieving(respectful coexistence)& sowing the seeds for disturbing that coexistence this time from the other side!
@jonaspapa2 you missed like, the whole point of the film then. respectful coexistence isn't possible as long as the ideological and socio-political institutions responsible for slavery are still in place (which they are). in the slave days being black was okay as long as it suited the interests of the white master, and as long as they made an effort to conform/submit to white American culture. and has that changed? think about it.
I saw this movie in Richmond Va in 1993. Although parts of it is cut out that is shown here on YouTube it is still after all these years the most accurate account of Slavery Ideation and what happen in those times. Only in 1993 all the wp ran up out of the movies as they got enough courage to leave once the movie was on the way playing. They later had this movie banned as racial hatred for fear it would cause a riot. This movie stop and started fights in Richmond but I remember how fast it was
At 0:55 is she being raped ? If so, who is attacking her, the bi-racial guy or one of the white overseers ? . . . . I'm assuming someone has seen a fuller version of this movie.
@Ashanti12345 Noo she's a slave living on a plantation on the south who's of african descent. But the actress if of Ghanian descent specifically so I'm a assuming they filmed this all in Ghana maybe since there are a lot of west indian people from Jamaica and other islands who moved back to Ghana recently. The actresses parents are probably Ghanian while she grew up in the US.
@Bonitaymorena no i meant in the movie she ignored that white dude and started sitting down with all the other africans like she now lives there or something
The most POWERFUL movie I've EVER seen! I saw it first when I was 12, but as a grown woman, it has such a more INFLUENTIAL meaning to it. Go back and find yourself, go back and get it!
i have never heard of this movie until I was told by my psychology professor to watch and write a 2 page eassy on what the movie was about and how it as affected us as black students. This movie brought tears to my eyes, I really feel and understand where we as black people come from and how far we become......MORE OF US NEEDS TO RESEARCH OUR HISTORY!!!!!
@shomaneture Today's Blacks? Really? They are too busy watchin Rhianna & JayZ videos, basketball wives, real housewives of ATL etc. and praying at the altar of Obama.
thank u so much my coach made the whole step team watch this movie and now i see why .i love this movie so much it teached so much and helped me open my eyes more thanx 4 the upload
This movie is amazing, I remember when we had "family movie night" one time and this was the movie we watched, it is a very powerful work. Also, this movie was made with very little money, apparently the guy just used his credit card and poured basically all of his money into it; THAT is dedication.
this is an impressive work of art, great cinema following the aesthetics of melvin van peebles and also the last poets.being an akan myself,it was a shock to see all these elements of our culture in the movie.I'd never heard of it before ,but now it has definitely changed my life.thank you so much queenceezy.
We can now see that the America's empire could not stand alone and needed the African as an equal, but treated them as less because of religion. Also, by overcoming hardship, one becomes enlightened to self.
I am so elated you posted the entire movie as I had to do a film review of this film and rellate it to Rastafari, only watching the film once. Thanks alot for having it here.
I wish I knew about this movie before, I did a presentation about maafa and I talked about the fortresses in Ghana. This would have been nice footage to use.
this skips a huge part of the movie

Powerful, we must never forget the pain our ancestors endured at the hands of devils, no matter what comfort state we assume we are at today.

This version is missing rather large hunks, it's supposed to be a full hour longer. Hopefully that will allay some confusion.
