I spent afternoons with a friend of mine on this when kids. One day we ended up choosing the same character, that was supposed to be impossible, but we couldn't reproduce the trick. There was no second color palette, just an arrow on top of the player two. Anyone knows how was that possible?
Also, Guile was broken (at least in our very personal tier...).
In this version you only got the musics of the Title Screen, Player Select, Balrog, Ken, Ryu and Zangief ending, which played randomly. They couldn't even get the music melodies correct either. Unless of course, they wanted to put their own spin on it, which if they did, it just made it sound horrific. The PC MS-DOS version was a pile of crap like this too - only difference is it had the arcade graphics. What a waste.
I remember this. Amiga was an amazing machine but this port of Streetfighter 2 was a real let down. The insanely tiresome disk-swapping was enough to drive the most patient gamer mad. The special moves were virtually impossible to do when using the joystick and the frame rate was appalling.
Very poor adaptation of the title! swapping the disks between battles was so awful! playing it with the one button joystick did hurt. even sound effects and music in this title are crap, as it had not been enough they crapped the graphics so much - it's a shame! when he performs the roundhous kick it sounds as if he's crapping his pants ... the framerate, sometimes laggy, then way too fast. crazy motherfucking shit. Im really angry about this game now!
xmas day i got this thinking it would be like snes version..... took an age to load and felt like a slideshow, not to mention controlling it with a one button joypad.
@Da1shocker . But both the SNES and Genesis versions are animated with moving trunks. Plus there is also a very obvious lack of scrolling floor. A quite miserable conversion.
US Gold, probably the worst software house, in the world. This awful conversion really hurt the Amiga's reputation as a gaming platform and made Amiga owners a laughing stock. It helped cement the image that the hardware couldn't handle heavy work. Allegedly US Gold bought the licence and didn't provide the programmers with access to the game data from Capcom. I never trusted US Gold again. The Amiga press unbelievably, rated this tripe 80/90% & claimed it was almost identical to the arcade!
see, as a kid who's first game ever played was street fighter 2 on SNES aged 3, this was all i could find round friends houses in the early 90's. The only people i knew rich enough to get a SNES were much older and us little kids had to make do with our old NES's, Masters Systems, Atari 2600's, Amigas Atari ST's and C64's. We had shit all, but if there was a Street Fighter 2 port, chances are ive played it :) i couldnt get enough of this game back then. it had a hold over me.
wow this is such an awful arcade port on a powerful computer at the time (amiga). his all you can punch looks like it is a glitch. the hitboxes seem off too. sometimes the move connects and at others it doesn't.
I suspect some of the really BAD arcade ports the home computers got in the early 90 was done delibrately by the coin-op companies/Nintendo/Sega etc to force us to buy consoles....consoles was the only way to play decent versions of games like Street Fighter 2., Final Fight etc...
Yh i think that was pretty much par for the course back in those days...
There was a lot of hysteria around video games at the time as it was with the media trying to convince our parents that games made their kids violent & epileptic...i guess Capcom didn't want to risk the possibly upsetting us more.
if i remember correctly, in "Final Fight : Guy edition" i think they took out all the women & black bad-guys as well..
@darockk As with Mortal Kombat and many other Amiga games, you could use controllers with multiple independent fire buttons such as the Master System pads etc. That's how I used to play this atrocity lol
I was one of those sad people who bought just about every version of SF2 there was and this was probably the worst version, but although not SF2 it was playable enough to be fun. I just don't get why Creative Materials hired graphics artists with such crap colour and animation perception and a music director who seemed to guess the notes of the coin-op tunes from memory after playing it a few times.
@Psygnote lol have you ever seen the ST release? That is the worst release and makes the Amiga version look award winning by comparison. I can't think of one good project Creative Materials were ever involved in. US Gold were probably responsible for more atrocious arcade conversions than any other software house during the 80s/90s. Quality was not a concern for anyone involved in this project. Everyone knew that Amiga SF2 would sell like hotcakes regardless on the basis of the name.
PC-E and SNES were the best conversions. But as you said, its matter of opinion. I prefer PC-E version (sound fx are more like real CPS1 hardware and boss were playbable) but SNES version has better colors and got Turbo edition later.

However, if you DID have this version, you were the MAN! :D I remember the people who had this version (cus we were all 6 or 7 at the time) were the best. Megadrive owners didnt have SF til 93 so we had to wait ;)

I had this version on my Amiga 500. although I am a strong advocate of the amiga, this port was bad. The amiga was and still is a legendary gaming machine, but SFll was one of the Amigas low points. The SNES/megadrive versions were far superior.
And the Amiga still had some quality games of its own like Alien Breed, Myth, IK+, Chaos Engine, Syndicate, Lotus Turbo Challenge, Nitro, Tanx, Hunter, Gods, F1 and the best by far, Moonstone. There are some others too, but I can't remember them.
Ahh, the good old days of gaming. SNES and Amiga where all the fun was had for us all
I remember at the time my friend had this, but all the Amiga morons at school said this was better than the SNES version! HOW they couldn't see this is beyond me. My friend didn't think this though as I had Street Fighter 2 Turbo and you could see the differnce of quality.
I'm just mocking people who are desperately trying to attach "racism" to everything which was probably never intended to be racist, and thus revealing their own inner racism.
You're revealing your own inner racism by getting offended when people label something as racist. Especially so when the guy is joking- which I'm positive he was.
Ah, nice try. But you're just doing what you did in the first place and getting offended at someone labeling something as racist. In this case, it's me labeling you as racist.
Nope, it's you who is offended, because you started to answer for another person despite not being addressed in the first place. My answer to HIM triggered YOUR desire to make a comment. A nice try to reverse your role, projecting your own motivations onto me.
I am not offended at all. Call me a racist all you want, or continue your "I know what you are but what am I" game. For me, it's just funny to witness the hypocrisy. *popcorn*
The thing I remember most about this game is constantly changing disks between bouts. That and maybe arguing with my smug SNES owning friends that this version was just as good as theirs, if not better. But secretly knowing it was'nt....
For the Amiga version, play the WHDLoad version, depack the data files and the loading is virtually instant like the console versions, and you can also play as characters you can't select as well.
Shame really, the Amiga was plenty capable of doing a decent version of Streetfighter 2, but unfortunately when people heard US Gold got the licence for it, most peoples expectations dropped.
If you can believe it, most people were happy it wasn't worse than it ended up, at least when the game was static in pause mode it looked the part, it just didn't move anything like it.
You only have to trawl through some of the other beatemups on Amiga to know it could and should have been better!
This game, beleve it or not actually didn't play that badly as a beat em up, but the choppy animation, grubby graphics and inaccurate music really made if fall on it's arse! the Amiga was more than capable of handling a good conversion of the game! Once again just an example of rushed jobs and sloppy programming as was commonplace for amiga conversions at the time!
yeh, id rather my arcade emulators these days... but you know this game probably played different and it could actually be ok as is and is probably quite fun too. :) i bet you agree.
I remember i used to think this was the worst port of SF2 ever at the time. Now.... I still think it is lol, how some of my friends at school thot this was arcade perfect i will never know.
@Luigi84289 the pc version looked best, until it moved! It looks like the arcade but the animation is even more messed up then the amigaa version. Super sft2 howeveer had perfect animation on the pc.
@msimplay LOL well everyone could tell this game was shit just by looking at the magazine pictures. Looking at it move is even more traumatic. I don't think the magazines slated it enough although they did all say it was pretty crap.
I always wondered why this version of SF2 was so choppy and had weird controls, plus the loading times were painful.. The PC-Engine (Turbografx) had an awesome port (almost like the SNES one, but with less colors), and it was almost weaker in specs than the A500!
It was because Capcom wouldnt give the programmers access to the source code or even the graphics so they had to make it up and rip graphics themselves.
I spent afternoons with a friend of mine on this when kids. One day we ended up choosing the same character, that was supposed to be impossible, but we couldn't reproduce the trick. There was no second color palette, just an arrow on top of the player two. Anyone knows how was that possible?

I remember at the time my friend had this, but all the Amiga morons at school said this was better than the SNES version! HOW they couldn't see this is beyond me. My friend didn't think this though as I had Street Fighter 2 Turbo and you could see the differnce of quality.
Still, we had good fun this version too

intro is racist btw
nooblet911 2 years ago
Of course. If the black guy would have beaten the blonde white guy, it wouldn't have been racist.
porcorosso81 2 years ago 11
Chill.
EJZandHB 2 years ago
I'm just mocking people who are desperately trying to attach "racism" to everything which was probably never intended to be racist, and thus revealing their own inner racism.
porcorosso81 2 years ago
You're revealing your own inner racism by getting offended when people label something as racist. Especially so when the guy is joking- which I'm positive he was.
EJZandHB 2 years ago
And you are revealing your own inner racism by getting offended when labeling people who label something as being racist.
Now it's your turn again... ;)
porcorosso81 2 years ago
Ah, nice try. But you're just doing what you did in the first place and getting offended at someone labeling something as racist. In this case, it's me labeling you as racist.
EJZandHB 2 years ago
Nope, it's you who is offended, because you started to answer for another person despite not being addressed in the first place. My answer to HIM triggered YOUR desire to make a comment. A nice try to reverse your role, projecting your own motivations onto me.
I am not offended at all. Call me a racist all you want, or continue your "I know what you are but what am I" game. For me, it's just funny to witness the hypocrisy. *popcorn*
porcorosso81 2 years ago
Relax. I was never offended. I thought we were joking.
EJZandHB 2 years ago
actually in the sega genesis/mega drive version the intro shows two white guys fighting rather than the white guy and black guy.
it most probably wasn't inteded appear racist (knowing japanese culture), but even capcom went pc on the sega genesis version.
of course I wasn't serious.
nooblet911 2 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
"intro is racist btw " Yeah, because it's racist if a white guy and black guy fight. -_-;

someone must have been on crack when they were porting this

0:57, listen to that tune, lololol
nooblet911 2 years ago
Lol i remember playing this game, it sucks so much only music is good, even nec pc-engine version is way much better, blame developers.
kenshir1234 2 years ago
Was the guys who maked this game on crack? The music is horrible and the game is a continuous non-sense. Nothing to do with the original.
AsamiyaShin1978 2 years ago
this is exactly how i remember it from my amiga, 15 years back..
panzerveps 2 years ago
The thing I remember most about this game is constantly changing disks between bouts. That and maybe arguing with my smug SNES owning friends that this version was just as good as theirs, if not better. But secretly knowing it was'nt....

For the Amiga version, play the WHDLoad version, depack the data files and the loading is virtually instant like the console versions, and you can also play as characters you can't select as well.
Galahadfairlight 2 years ago
Shame really, the Amiga was plenty capable of doing a decent version of Streetfighter 2, but unfortunately when people heard US Gold got the licence for it, most peoples expectations dropped.
If you can believe it, most people were happy it wasn't worse than it ended up, at least when the game was static in pause mode it looked the part, it just didn't move anything like it.
You only have to trawl through some of the other beatemups on Amiga to know it could and should have been better!
Galahadfairlight 2 years ago 3
I keep hearing the Select tune during fights
That's how much this port sucks

I was thankful when SFII came out for Amiga so I didn't have to waste quarters in the arcades...but after awhile it would just crash on me. haha

i loved this game on amiga *-*

If you think this looks bad go look up the Commodore 64 version. That looks unbelievably bad.

amiga had amazing graphics.
RATmm 2 years ago
This game, beleve it or not actually didn't play that badly as a beat em up, but the choppy animation, grubby graphics and inaccurate music really made if fall on it's arse! the Amiga was more than capable of handling a good conversion of the game! Once again just an example of rushed jobs and sloppy programming as was commonplace for amiga conversions at the time!
Stayrsaigh 2 years ago 3
yeh, id rather my arcade emulators these days... but you know this game probably played different and it could actually be ok as is and is probably quite fun too. :) i bet you agree.
rouncer81 2 years ago
I remember i used to think this was the worst port of SF2 ever at the time. Now.... I still think it is lol, how some of my friends at school thot this was arcade perfect i will never know.
TheDarkHighlander 2 years ago 3
This Is perhaps the only version of SF II not implemented by the CAPCOM. It´s truly horrible.

Dhalsim stage with Ken bgm, EPIC FAIL XD

I think the character select screen music being on Blankas stage takes the cake.

wow, i like this version better. the amiga makes everything sound amazing.

pc engine not weaker but far more superior than amiga due to its dual 16bit graphic processors
skunkkey666 2 years ago
If Capcom gave the Amiga team the source code and graphics files it would have been far better then this. They didnt.
ojideagu 2 years ago 9
@ojideagu Game looks fantastic to me.
Luigi84289 1 year ago
@Luigi84289 the pc version looked best, until it moved! It looks like the arcade but the animation is even more messed up then the amigaa version. Super sft2 howeveer had perfect animation on the pc.

@ojideagu And looks like the programmes never played the game...
aleste666 1 year ago
@ojideagu At least it looks better than it plays =P
msimplay 1 year ago
@msimplay LOL well everyone could tell this game was shit just by looking at the magazine pictures. Looking at it move is even more traumatic. I don't think the magazines slated it enough although they did all say it was pretty crap.
ojideagu 1 year ago
@ojideagu I read a review when it was first released saying that it was a good game.
They only started to slate about a year down the line
msimplay 1 year ago
@ojideagu the amiga version of the game is a disgrace to the series
halodoomhpf15 1 year ago
It's NOT a matter of power, but know-how in programming the machine.
Amiga Had great fighting games, like the very playable Shadow Fighter, or the technical incredibles Fightin Spirit & Elfmania.
However, a BAD conversion of SF II.
The only thing I really like is the music.
Outlander999 2 years ago
I always wondered why this version of SF2 was so choppy and had weird controls, plus the loading times were painful.. The PC-Engine (Turbografx) had an awesome port (almost like the SNES one, but with less colors), and it was almost weaker in specs than the A500!
Samoutuomas 2 years ago
It was because Capcom wouldnt give the programmers access to the source code or even the graphics so they had to make it up and rip graphics themselves.
ojideagu 2 years ago 7
Actually didn't mind this one well played
