why there is dislikers, why some one choose dislike to this video, dont like ok i understand, but he is a master and his feeling with this inturement marvelous, please respect
I love how he floors the audience with awesomeness, and then at the end, he's so friendly/down to earth... "I'll play up to here..." (then excitedly) "There's still another half!!"
For all guitarists who are interested in world music and happen to check this out, note the pipa technique of doing tremolos with the backs of the fingernails (although picks are used) on all five fingers. Pretty amazing.
There's nothing wrong with his pipa. The wood darkened with age, and the lighter parts are where are 'paths' he might have scratched while plucking.
In fact, no normal player would want to change an instrument that he had been playing for a long time, because he would have been so used to the instrument. The music and feel actually get better when you are that much acquainted with your instrument. :)
this University is in the inner true China city of Xianxiang where you find the real Chinese people. Its and old city with wonderful culture and traditional music such as this, the emprerors dined and lived with this music surrounding them.

What do pipas resonate off of? there is no hole like on an accoustic guitar, yet the sound is pretty loud
smileyman455 1 year ago
@smileyman455 it's slightly indented to make the sound a bit louder.
Shana007 1 year ago
@smileyman455 there is actually a sound hole behind the bridge and the bottom of the pipa, inside the pips is hollow covered by the mian ban
