@isamtator We have met one of the guys that worked at the base. Aparently they cut the weapons up into bits, set fire to them, then drove a bren carrier over them to crush them down. Thankfully it didn't destroy many of the items !
@ww2relichunter Oh well the we we leave huge amounts of munitions in war zones, when its over, they say it cost more to bring it back than it does to make new, I say bring it back, because the enemy might, they just might learn how to use it.
do you know why the British army dumped that ammunition? in the Iraq war the US has explosive ordnance despoil teams that blow up enemy and very old and unsafe american munitions. i was wondering if it was the same for the British or maybe another reason
@nance2uable The first one is called COlonel Bogey and is indeed from the Bridge on the River Kwai. The second is the theme from 633 Squadron. Search those names and you'll find them :)
Thanks for the compliment :) No, none are at Burtonwood. I do know a couple of people who have searched it though and it is mainly full of modern trash. The best sites to dig are those a good distance from a big town, have no modern use except for farming and that were abandoned when the war finished. In my experience, anything else isn't worth searching.
Now that is recovering history! Great job! Hey Temerity Magazine your online Relic & Treasure magazine submission deadline for Nov. 1st issue is Oct. 20th. We would love to have you apart of it!
why are you happy from that weird thing at 4:28
nance2uable 3 weeks ago
@nance2uable Because it is a muzzle booster from a Vickers Machine Gun. A very rare and unusual find. One of the best from the site !

It sick to think all that stuff was new when they dumped it in there.

Did they burn the place down, and leave all the munitions to rot?

@gtfonow1 There is no live ammo at this dump. It is all either inspection or drill rounds.

You really should wear gloves and make sure your tetanus shot is up to date. :)
