  • Read on ABC newsite: Libya's African Assets. I often wondered how the Libyans did so well despite the Sanctions. All their investments were making vast amounts of money in Africa. It kind of explains why his African Leaders (brothers) turned on him by accepting the No Fly Zone. Libya was the major shareholder of these assets. Now they can claim them (not just the Satellite and Africa Radio but the rest. The Rwandan Leader now claims Gaddafi did not keep his contractual agreements. CONVENIENT.

  • DeRoquencourt, u hv no idea wat he was through, he tried his best. lets see u do better. i highly doubt u could any better.

  • For an accurate and balanced assessment of how the international community fell down and allowed the Rwandan Genocide to happen, I recommend Samantha Power's book, 'A Problem From Hell: America and the Age of Genocide'. One cannot celebrate nor lionize Dallaire without hearing the context of what was happening at the UN, NATO and in the US government. In fact, the whole book is an eye opener about how impudence or self-interest of politicians has led to mass slaughters again and again....

  • This bastard helped Kagame seize power and kill president Habyarimana. Moreover he is a coward and a dishonnest fellow

  • @DeRoquencourt shut your fucking mouth he went through hell to try to stop that genocide from happening while pricks like you sit at your goddamn computer and talk shit

  • CANADA'S BIGGEST FRAUD...... A COWARD WHO ABANDONED MEN UNDER HIS COMMAND. THEY WERE HACKED TO DEATH AS HE DROVE AWAY. CHECK THE FACTS.

  • @feindhortmit And what facts are you basing this on. The facts that I have, show a man who did his level best against a United Nations who cared more about money than lives with underarmed and overstretched resources. Or was Clinton wrong when he acknowledged that the International Community had failed in it's duty to Rwanda and that "if the USA had sent 5000 troops to Rwanda, 500,000 people would have been saved". So show me your facts you are basing that on and then we will talk.

  • @aegiswieldingathena

Dallaire was an Ottawa desk jockey who only got the job because he was billingual & felt like some action. He had no field experience. He panicked & blamed his driver for abandoning the Belgians.

All this is known in Canadian armed forces circles. You don't hear of it becasue the army's forbidden to speak out.

Visit the Royal Canadian Military Institute in Toronto. Go to the bar and ask any serviing officer about Dallaire.

Then, as you say "we will talk".

  • @feindhortmit That is not fact, that is speculation and rumours. The highest powers involved stand by him especially Belgium. The Belgian Senate exonerated him in 2007, stating it was the fault of the Belgian government not Dallaire or Col. Luc Marshal. The former US President Bill Clinton came out and said they failed, the US Defence department as concurred with that. A closed society like an army? Is it partial, free of bias? Have you ever considered that their words could be skewed? Not fact

  • @aegiswieldingathena

Have you considered Dallaire and the governments' position could be skewed to spare themsevles considable recrimination? Do governments never lie?

I have stated facts. I have spoken to some of those who served with him. Have you? These officers aren't liars

It's the Dallaire Dog & Pony Show that the media laps up.

  • @feindhortmit They do lie to cover up their actions, they don't lie about what they did wrong. They might downplay it, but to come out and say it is our fault when most governments look for scapegoats. Also, government documents come to public fourm after a set number of years. I never said they were liars, I asked if they were impartial, there is a difference. I believe that and on the facts that I have seen that Dallaire did everything he could working for a UN that does not work.

  • @aegiswieldingathena

    Which of us is impartial?

Dallaire is painted a saint. It's an unworthy accolade. Though it hasn't stopped him cashing in on speeches, documentaries, movies & books. I've seen his speech live and on terlevision. He makes no reference to his dereliction of duty or incompetence.

He's not all bad. No one is. However, he's a fraud who put himself forward for a job he couldn't handle. Many died as a result. Check out a site orwelltoday . com type in Dallaire.

  • @OBSysteme and dont get me started on the bloc or whatever their called, they have no interest what so ever in canada all they care about is securing jobs and money for quebec, i dont know how their still a federal party. all that added plus a mindless population who think world peace can happen if canada disarms its militery we all grab hands and sing coboia.

  • @OBSysteme i know exactly what you mean, shitty polotisions i cant speak for the conservitives i was young when they were in power but right now all the liberals do is contredict the conservitives they argue about everything for the sake of it. Also the media has changed they dont report properly anymore they just rant all the bad stuff they twist the reports to make the government look bad. The conservitives are too affraid of doing anything drastic id like to see what they do with majority.

  • @OBSysteme the canadians who torutured the somalians are fucked and we know it, the airborne regiment was disband because of it. why we all look at dellaware as a hero is cause he disobayed his orders to return home, its a failure of our government. for a general to go on the phone and say NO to leaving is a big deal, were not proud of being canadian were proud to have a man such as him as part of our country.

  • Mr Lt Gen Romeo Dallaire is one of this worlds most honourable people. My deepest, deepest respect for what he did and said.

Western gouverments think Africa is worthless. But i'd like to remind all of us again: we all came FROM the continent of Africa! And then we all exploited and profitted from Africa! Without Africa the West wouldn't be what it is today, with all its wealth and prosperity. Its disgusting to realise. And that is the land we turn our backs to in need, again n again n again

  • I first found the movie Shake Hands with the Devil and so came to know about Dallaire and his story.

Unbelieveble, to realise the effords this man had to make & (political) obstacles he had to face, to simply follow a morally responseble duty as a lt general and a human being to try and save people in dyer need. Let a alone the mission impossible to physically protect those same people that he came to help, while being understaffed, underarmed and without any backup support.

  • this guy is lying,u did nothing and there is none to be proud of stupid canadian

only ethiopians contengents came to help RPF,not for humanitarian purpose

hope Rwandese ghost hunt your mansion that you bought with UN money and yourself till that day you will be no more

  • I read his heart wrenching book 'Shake Hands with the Devil'. Unbelievable that this happens and we all turn a blind eye because it's not "our problem".

  • there was not help because there was not oil to benefit USA

, thas why there was not help

  • where was he speaking here? like in front of who?

  • In Mogadishu 18 people died on the "good side" and made the developed word stay out of Africa, even thou hundreds of thousand died months later, and this would not trigger the same people to move in. Go figure!?

  • It was because of Mogadishu that US did not lead an intervention to Rwanda, They were cutting back on their peacekeeping efforts, as they did not want to risk loosing anymore soldiers. They were tired of being the world's police officers. It is sad. But that is realpolitik

  • *Facepalm on masonic*

  • Saw him speak today, absolutely unbelievable. If you ever get the chance, make sure you take it. Remarkable person, phenomenal person, makes me even prouder to be a Canadian.

  • Only Canada could produce a man like this...!!!

  • @jhotles1 I hope you realize that he was born in the Netherlands.

  • He shuld have asked Sweden they usually come 2-3 years after the war is ower.

  • romeo dallaire is savior

    and real hero.

  • im agree

  • Thank you for writing the book. It gives us insight into what happened in Rwanda. My nephew was there at the same time as you, and also suffers from PTSD. I look forward to meeting him when he comes to Calgary.

  • I know I sound perhaps overly cynical when I say this, but there's very few such men left today, to whom a man can look up to. Dallaire's one of them. And as it usually goes, he's paid dearly for standing up.

  • Thank God for the archetype of the Hero.

Dallaire's passion for truth is an energy we can all hope to live up to.I am proud to be a canadian and married to someone who is also with the UN in Haiti at this time and trying to make a difference.I pray that Dallaire's story guides him and others who are doing this work, to always live in truth.. Great book and loved, loved the movie.

  • Roméo Dallaire is someone I look up to and regard as person who fought hard to survive challenges through the carnage and slaughter of a million people.

  • poor guy. Post traumatic stress disorder after the Rwanda incident, but...his book describes it better.
