  • whats the name of the waltz at 2.40?

  • @ilikepreludes The Gypsy Princess by Imre Kalman. But there's no piano version of it on youtube except here. All the others are the original opera version.

  • @Bellantoni thanks

  • what was the name of that waltz he started playing?

  • The way he said "and you love to listen" at 3:57 sounded scary LOL

  • Does anyone know the song Horowitz started playing at 3:12?

  • Horowitz is such a chill guy!

  • 4:07. Goodness what a great man he was. He was truly the best.

  • he kinda looks like wladyslaw szpilman

  • 3:58 *In a hypnotizing voice* "and you love to listen." xD

  • But you have no intention whatsoever to retire? - "Oh my God no!"

  • he was unique, his technique was so incredible and his fingers so long that he could play one instrument as there were was many instruments..

if you have a watch at scarlatti op.23 in moscow, you'll understand it: it seems he was playing both the piano and trumpets in two times but with only the piano and at the same time. It was easyer to do that than describing for him...

what an incredible touch.. modern pianists and players generally should learn by him, even though he's not here anymore..

  • 2:07 shows him straight fingered with a highly placed bridge compared to the keyboard. Anyone else find that interesting? And at 0:39 - 0:44 that finger walk shows me this man was born with unusual hands or they developed this way from playing at an early age. The admitting that he loves playing the piano I think isn't appreciated enough. Could it not be that people of this level of play have a deep love for music far beyond what mortals have?

  • oh my god that is awesome.

  • Quelqu'un aurait une traduction française?

  • Lol in the end: are you going to retire? OH, GOD NO!! gotta love him. He's young at heart.

  • I love how happy he is at 4:08 my memorys not what it used to be can someone tell me what he is playing at that point in time

  • got a wife whoi just listens to him and looks after him, plays like a tank and goes to japan whenever he fucking pleases. vladimirLAD

  • hahaha 4:45 horowitz leaves him hanging.. he deserves it

  • "C'etait pas mal !"

  • He was a cool dude!!!!

  • hmm love the "forgotten " version. god... geniuses are so tactless. lol

  • He missed a lot of notes in his lifetime, but I don't think he ever forgot about a single note

  • Man*

  • Not to Sound gay or anything, but Horowitz was a handsome mane back in his day!

  • I love how this is his 'forgotten' version after 20 years ;)

  • legend

  • being his neighbour must have been a treat :)

  • "C'était pas mal !" Hahaha ...

  • @ MUSIC200756 // E. Kalman - Heia in den Bergen from Operetta 'Die Csárdásfürstin'. Listen Anna Netrebko's.

  • Horowitz was a bit of a naughty boy, but he was a great pianist. He must have been a challenge for his wife. (But she was used to a life in music). He was hard on himself and a perfectionist.

  • 3:15 an the end is 3:47 i cant find this piece do someone know witch composer played this music ? when the men says somebody somebody we get jasha or something

  • I'd like to see him battle Chilly Gonzalez. Would've been hilarious.

  • this is ust a nice guy without any arrogance

  • an what did he played ad 3:15 till 3:47

  • i just love the way he injoys playing the piano an have fun in life he's a very great Pianist and a very good person aswell he's a Legend

  • Gotta love that laugh at 3:46 and 4:07!! What a terrific piano player!

  • @OrangeSodaKing , not just terrific, legendary.

  • Very interesting!

  • 2:41 whats the name?

  • is this for real? he sounds like a little child having fun teasing his parents

  • This is a beautiful man.

  • are you kidding? I don't remembeeeer! all of a sudden it sounds like he played it last night...

  • his bow tie is so cute.

  • Horowitz plays piano better than he speaks english...seriously

  • @PaulThePuppetier

He plays piano better than I speak English - and I'm a native speaker.

  • If I play this composition for 30 years,I still can't play it like this genius who hasn't played it for 30 years!

  • lol

    @3:47

  • So cute... :D

  • Comment removed

  • what was rhat piece at 2.43? i think he said it was a valse

  • i wish i forget that well.

  • wish i would have been his neighbor

  • Wish I could play the pieces I didn't know like that!

  • how FUNNY AND COOOOL he was =)

    so natural xD

  • I LOVE HOROWITZ!

And the interviewer... so lousy... `Do you like to play the piano?`... If I was Vladimir, I would have answered `no, I love to play the violin`. Sometimes I wonder what people have inside their heads.

  • @lefaguais Hahah thats right !! i though the same, but i was like "no he luvs to play drums cant you tell that ? "

  • @lefaguais He did always want to compose, but he was never able to...

  • @lefaguais You must not be American. If you were, you'd understand the nuance of American English -- that is a completely valid question in the way he asked it - it's rhetorical. It's not meant to be a real question - it's meant as a bridge into a discussion of his love for the piano.

  • @danieljy Yes, I am american, and I still think it was a stupid question.

  • @lefaguais maybe he meant it in a way that Horowitz plays the piano with such energy and intensity that u can actually feel it (love) exuding from the sounds he gets out of the piano,

  • can anybody tell me what did he play at 2:45-3:03 ?

  • If you search 'The gypsy princess waltz' you'll find the piece. But unfortunatley it's orchestrated and doesn't sound half as good as Horowitz made it sound in those few seconds. I wish I could find a recording of him playing it on piano.

  • What's with the interviewer-hate? It's not like this is the one and only opportunity the world had to learn something of Horowitz. There's the Ann Arbor seminar, the Milan and Germany documentaries, the interviews and press conference clips posted by Horowitz.

Wallace got the beginning of the Stars and Stripes on camera. Two other unidentified pieces that are absolutely phenomenal. That makes it worth it to me.

  • @rmondell This is a little earlier than the anti-depressant period, a year later he gave the last Rach 3 season which was fantastic with Eugene Ormandy and that was fantastic.

  • The arrogant interviewer is Mike Wallace. A liberal dinosaur who was on 60 Minutes for decades, who was quite full of himself- and full of it.

  • @Mike1614b Wallace is one of the best interviewers of all time.

  • he sounds like borat :)

    i don't know why but i don't like the interviewer :P

  • @Aryamanable I don't either. The interviewer is SO brash and forceful. Not respectful enough. He just seems snide. Not sure if it's on purpose, but I've seen various clips of this extended interview with Horowitz, and in every clip/video the interviewer also annoys me lol.

  • @BreezyGraffiti

Yeah he seems a bit arrogant to me as well.

"Oh come on you haven't forgot it." just seems a bit annoying. and he even tries to start speaking when he is playing.

  • @BreezyGraffiti

His name is "Mike Wallace" - I don't know if he's still an interviewer on "60 Minutes" or not, but he annoys me regardless, lol. You should see the interview he does with Morgan Freeman, heh.

  • god i LOVE HIS BOW TIE AND HIS PERSONALITY

  • Ok here is a pianist that truly enjoys the piano. Everyone can tell just how much fun he is having. He is the best I've seen too.

  • I don't know if the question has actually been answered but the second (and last) piece he plays is his own piano variations on a theme of Carmen by Bizet

  • His laughter is contagious! =)

  • hehe "c'était pas mal ; c'est pas mal" Great octaves!!

  • Great rhythm.

  • Lol..... He sounds very far from sober. He keeps slurring his speech.

  • @andrew190495 Well he's not a native english speaker I dont think, so some slurring is acceptable.

  • King!

  • Horowitz was so unique and great. He was such an incredible pianist.

  • Comment removed

  • Horowitz forever!

  • i wish he was my friend lol

  • it's like "the music" controls his fingers,he knows exactly where the right notes are.

  • What's the name of the piece at 3:21 ?

  • i want to know 2 !!!

  • @paganiniGOGO

I don't actually know the name, but it's some Jewish folk piece.

  • Master...God

  • 0:57 but i tell you i don't know it!

    *plays the song flawless*

    i wish i "didn't know" things THAT way... ^^

  • I think his sound is the real sound of a piano... I don't know how to explain it but who understands me got the idea :D

  • Piano sounds, really crispy. Almost feel like I want to eat it.

  • I don't really think he's a douche...he's just playing around with Horowitz who's obviously very strong-willed individual who can take some joking around

  • "Oh my god no"

  • Jaajajaj the man!

  • -You love to play the piano, don't you, Maestro? I mean, you LOVE to play the piano

    -Oh sure

    -And you love to listen

    *cut to Horowitz playing*

    XD

  • jajaja

4:08 The smile ha ha ha

    so

    4:30 is very fine :O

me too, love how play the piano

    :D

  • 4:08 wtf

    hahaha

  • Loughing Out Loud...

  • can somebody tell me the names of the other pieces he plays in this interview???

    1) stars and stripes

    2) carmen variations

    3) ???

    4) ???

  • That interviewer just loves to hear himself talk.

  • Comment removed

  • He died in 1989...have some respect please.

  • @classicalmusic29 i didn't know. and who told you i don't respect him. did i say fuck him? if i don't love the guy i wouldn't watch all his videos. i respect all great pianists. anyway, i thought he was still alive.

  • My goodness that interviewer is insufferable. Horowitz and his wife have amazing amounts of patience to turn it into a pleasant interview!

  • @MellowCypriot precisely, the ignorance of Wallace is borderline psychotic....as if Horowitz was just some sort of machinista

  • @MellowCypriot Yeah, both Mike Wallace and his son Chris (currently a Fox "News" host) are insufferable hacks.

  • @MellowCypriot interviwers always are insufferable

  • not only horowitz wife loved to listen we all love that too but seeing him laughing is almost more entertaining:D

  • Comment removed

  • Horowitz was a skilled pianist and an extremely gentle person. Never showed up and has ALWAYS been himself.

  • @ConteSakurai "never showed up" ????

  • whats the piece he starts playin at 4:00?

  • carmen variation arranged by horowitz

  • Carmen Fantasie or Variations on Carmen COMPOSED by Horowitz

  • What is the name of the Waltz?

  • did he have a cold?

  • 4:07...I love Horowitz!

  • so you have idea of retiring? -oh my god no!!!!1

  • @mdoub Just goes to show you how much the man loved his music.

  • best musician ever!!

  • Oh my god, i love him! lol haha crazy pianists r the best ones :P

  • I know he received a lot of criticism from some (not many) people, but I don't think I've ever seen someone who enjoyed playing more than Horowitz. Just an extraordinary pianist with a great personality.

  • man, where the hell they found such an idot journalist or whatever the guy was. so low class - terrible.

  • "you love to play the piano, don't you maestro" No he fucking hates it, thats why he's done it his whole life. Moron.

  • ha!!

  • That is the great mike wallace...one of the greatest journalists ever...who else got Horowitz to relax and be himself???

  • @threebs1 That journalist Mike Wallace is an imbecile. "we'll get Jascha." so sick. what an ass. "you really love to play the piano maestro." What a moron. I'm so disgusted after watching that interviewer.

  • I'm not sure why you needed to repeat your reply from 2 pages ago. I read it and felt there was no need to continue the thread...You obviously know nothing about Mike Wallace, or Horowitz. Nothing about journalism, and even less about music and musicians. You have an opinion, but they are like a--holes...everyone has got on...yours just happens to be big (it even needed to be posted twice).

  • Your presence here is very important so that it gives contrast to the intelligent and thoughtful responses of others more cultured and educated than you. Keep writing your thoughtless dribble and don't forget to practice playing the Dombra in the mountains of your native Kazakhstan...BORAT.

  • @threebs1 He was always him sefl :)

  • I guess you knew him personally :)

  • OH!!! he´s crazyy !!! hahahahah

  • A bit different to what I imagined lol

  • why is mike wallace kinda jerk even when he's interviewing a pianist, not some politician who's trying to avoid answering a difficult question?

  • 3:47 is just too great, Horowitz was such an amazingly lively person.

  • he was such a lovely person!!!Love his laughter )))) Hail to Horowitz!!!

  • Comment removed

  • very funny in 4:08!!!!! , my favorite pianist!

  • -You love to play the piano, don't you, Maestro? I mean, you LOVE to play the piano

    -Oh sure

    -And you love to listen

    *Quick cut to Horowitz playing*

    LOL!!!

  • ahahaha!!!

  • he has such a lovable personality, nice to have a grandpa like him

  • Omg?! 3:26 - 3:27 is that Horowitz?! He's hot!

  • Can anybody tell me what the name of the waltz he plays?

  • The waltz is from the operetta "Csardazfurstin"...

  • The host was a douche.

  • hey would someone please tell me what he plays in 3:16

  • ther his own version of the carmen variations

  • I love that when he messes up he just laughs about it! LOL

  • Horowitz had an incredible sense of humour. I will always have tremendous respect for this man. Horowitz was clever, as he knew how to deal with the patrinising greasy men.

  • Someone please tell me what volodya is.

  • little name (surname? I don't know in english), anyway, Volodya is a familiar name for Vladimir...

  • nick name

  • Thanks!

    I learned a new word :)

  • Thanks :)

that's a new word for me!

  • huh....oh, no problem. lol well, it is good that you like Horowitz. He is a master who is nessasery when it comes to the history of performing arts.

  • as Robert = Bob

  • Alright thanks, that's kinda what i thought but wasn't too sure.

  • to violinist102 - it's 'Heia in den Bergen' from Emerich Kalman's Opera(Operetta?) 'Die Czardasfürstin'

    (Sorry, it may spell wrong)

I strongly Recommend you the one sung by Netrebko.(it's on Youtube)

  • whats the piece he plays from 3:16 -3:47.

    PLEASE!

  • He's trying to hypnotise Horowitz!!!!!!!!!!

  • has horowitz composed any pieces on his own??

plz let me know if so!

  • well, hes done a transcription for hungarian rhapsody no 2 if that counts

  • erm.. carmen fantasie variations i belive...

  • does anyone know how long his fingerspan is? i tried to play chopin's polonaise no.6 op. 53 but i can't reach for some of the chords

  • He take 10th

  • @volodya2 Only ten? Wow.

  • what music does he play starting from 1,05 ?

  • the stars and stripes forever
