When I first saw this show on PBS in San Diego, I thought it was brillant. Too bad here were only a nine episodes. I know the theme was hated, but it really fit Nathan's character and what he loses.
Sorry but I loved this show - the players played real people and there wasn't a super fly solution every week (unlike Star Trek) such a pity that it wasn't really developed. I predict that a show like Star Cops will make a return - it might be next week or still a few years away, but it will happen.
David Caulder still rocks - he's just begun a new Dixon of Doc Green series on Radio 4 Extra
He's more than capable of a return - perhaps via a series of Star Cop audio stories ?
Wait, that is not how I recall it. Wasn't the guy in space something like the Swedish PM? The guy in the water is the crime solved by the show's protagonist that got him transferred to a corrupt Police Precinct in Space to solve the Swedish PM Murder.
Like all British Series, GREAT acting. Of course, we should already know Chris Boucher from Blake's 7.
It wasa dual murder, the guy at the lake had something to do with failing space suits, and the guy in space was a victim, they were trying to cover faulty equipment that the Italians made. No hallucinations, just syncronicity.
Just told my girlfriend about Star Cops. I couldn't remember who played Nathan Spring, I know it was David Caulder now. But wasn't he in a Bond movie?
What does the opening represent? Has the astronaut's oxygen supply run out, so his hypoxia led him to hallucinate about diving into a lake and being unable to resurface? Or is it the other way around (=an old man dived into a lake, where he went into a shock which made him hallucinate about being an astronaut)?
The opening is the precursor to the episode plot....SPOILERS! SPOILERS!There is a spate of mysterious pressure suit failures, one of which we see here. The guy in the lake is being murdered, and it turns out that the suit failures are due to sabotage in an attempt for a rival company to the murdered man's to win the maintenance contract.
I checked, it's only available in region 2 dvds and they have been discontinued. I'll have to try to get a hold of a copy and transfer it to region 1.
Thank goodness we gave "Starcops" a lousy time slot and hen 'ripped it off' the air the minute ratings 'wobbled' ... otherwise we were looking at another 'Dr. Who' 'Blake 7' style success (I don't know if the Beeb could handle that). Wonderful clip -thanks for sharing it Davecallaway2001 - wish they would out this out on DVD
Love Star Cops, the characters, and the Justin Hayward song. I did not know about the ratings you mentioned. I *think* I remember reading that a general British actor's strike ended the production (they had only done 7 or 8 up to then?) and that it was never returned to after the strike. I guess I could be wrong about that. I saw it in NYC in the 80s on PBS and taped about 5 of them.
Cool theme music. I'll consider that TV show as the British "Dragnet" meets "Star Trek", or "Star Trek" meets "Hill Street Blues". These three American shows aired on NBC in which its parent company NBC Universal owns "Dragnet" while CBS owns "Star Trek", the BBC owns "Star Cops", and 20th Century Fox owns "Hill Street Blues".
I love this show; I think we managed to tape every episode when it was playing on PBS - late 80s to early 90s, I believe. This is one of our favorite Justin Hayward songs, also, so finding this video is super!
0:48 - 1:08 wtf

I dunno--seems like an interesting concept, but the theme song cracks me up every time. "...sends a message to the SHOOOOOOOOOOORE"
It is also perpetually stuck in my head.

Great theme, but series isn't that cool like Battlestar Galactica. So bad, honestly.

The opening is where they got the basis for Star Trek: Enterprise.

its a great show and I love the spacesuits in it too. I think its kinda a cheap shot to attack someone from behind with two of them.
