I'm pretty sure I saw The Black Sun on TV in America, possibly as a "movie".

@IWannabeJew You probably saw the TV movie cobbled together from two episodes which was called "Through The Black Sun." It used this episode and (I believe) "Breakaway." They shoulda just left well enough alone, IMHO.

I thing it's better NOT comment a tv movie video with a song, because the words of the song mix with the words of the movie, and it's no good. Better an instrumental piece. My opinion.

@bimbomistico I don't agree. The song is like a frame of a picture. You have to feel the emotions that it does with the emotions of video clip. That's all.

on DVD and I read the italian novelization, with texts by Gianni

Padoan edited by the AMZ books: when I was a child these books were the most coveted prizes! (There were still VCRs!). Good Job! Thanks!

Very...ambitious episode.

Give them credit, at least, for trying to be different. However, I think they bit off more than they could chew with the always difficult theme of metaphysics within science fiction. The episode fell flat on its face, and leaves most viewers scratching their heads after many scenes.

Not the best episode of an actually quite fine season of Space 1999. But not from the lack of trying.

@HelenaRussell I am with you Helena...in fact most of the stars will name this as the best episode on space 1999. I think people forget...this is science fiction...and from the 70's. !! I'll take the beating for any negative comments as I am sure I will get a few for this view. Oh well....this episode ( to me) was genius!!!

I remember I missed the first time Italian RAI telecasted "Black Sun" (maybe the best episodes of the superb Space 1999 series) because I was at the Innsbruck Olympic winter Games 1976. So I lived some years without knowing about this marvelous episode... Thank you for this video. Ciao!

"The Black Sun" had one of the best character moments in the whole series: Koenig and Victor sharing his 60 year old brandy, saved for a special occasion. That was pure class.

Space 1999 was the best sci-fi show ever created... Bar None. Moonbase Alpha, the Eagles and all the actors were very real for me. Having such a difficult time growing up, it was this show that gave me hope that one day; humanity might outgrow hatred and greed. So I decided not to commit suicide as a child because the wonders of Space 1999 may come to past. This series quite literally saved my life........ It holds the deepest place in my heart.

An irony is that the first broadcast of the Sci. Fi. channel is that of "Space: 1999."

To bad the Sci FI channel chooses to show stupid slasher/vampire movies rather than such programming as UFO,Space 1999, Dr.Who, ect... Now they change it to SyFy to satisfy them low I.Q. types that could not figure out whay "Sky FI meant. Such promise, such dissapointment.

Superb episode Black Sun most of Season 1 was superb Another Time Another Place,Missing Link,War Games<Collision Course, Deaths Other Dominion,End Of Eternity,The Troubled Spirit and the Breakaway Pilot still as good today as it was almost 35 years ago

What I mean is that, considering the special effects budget they had for their television show, and considering the fact that sci-fi is very often viewed as a low-brow form of entertainment, I think they played it all very sincerely, believably, and powerfully.
