I've been a fan of bodybuilding since the late 1960s. Dave was always a favorite of mine. I've seen him on the Monkees, The Beverly Hillbillies, and in the movie, Don't Make Waves. He was a great bodybuilder, and he seemed like a very nice, self-effacing guy. I'd heard he'd gone through some difficult times later on in his life, but that he's doing very well now, running a gym in southern CA.
@ronwelker8 I should add that the blond bomber cured himself of this cocaine addiction and has been a noteworthy fitness expert for many years now....check out his website to order his book.
@faffaflunkie despite all i knew about steroids and the famous professional wrestlers who are now suffering because of steroid abuse....it finally hit home how dangerous professional bodybuilding can be when i was told that they take cocaine before a competition to make them more cut.. this is why mr. draper was a coke addict temporarily but cured himself thank god
@faffaflunkie yes. a youtube commentator whose father took up weightlifting just because he saw dave draper on the beverly hillbillies show made sure his son stayed away from bodybuilders because of the cocaine use he knew they indulged in for their competitions. re coming to the gym drunk, i think i read that some toxic poisoning results from working out when you have a lot of alcohol in your blood stream
He also did a pretty good cameo in The Beverly Hillbillies, where granny forced him into eating one of her recipes. He slapped the table after he took a bite.
hate say it but they all trained on the old brand of d-ball made by ciba back then

i remember reading world news about mr. draper's fit of anger that got him publicity and posing on merv griffin'
s show. this was sadly a ruse for the serious drug problems of the perfect physique....a tragic loss of potential for hollywood acting.

@ronwelker8 I certainly never heard of using cocaine to make oneself "cut:", however many bodybuilders do show up to the gym drunk or "high".
