You can shoot 223 in a 5.56 but you can't shoot 5.56 in a 223, it's a hotter load and will damage your gun. My buddy is a police chief and he brought over a couple of the stations guns to shoot, they were fully auto 5.56 AR-15. We ran through a 1000 rounds. And the tax payers covered the cost, shhhh. I have a brand new Semi-auto S&W M&P 15 M4. I love that thing. You need to pick up a Chinese or Russian SKS same as an AK-47. Get Tapco 20 round mags for it. You will love it, 200.00 for 1000 rounds
