Actually Doogie is the best singer rainbow had after Dio,Bonnet had a great voice but zero precence,Turner was Ritchie,s attempt to break AOR american market and was insipid,Doogie at least had that classic english/european musical tatse that ritchie suits best in my opinion(followed him since 73!).
Ritchie still at best when improvising or "fired up" but i gotta admit ,i prefer his marshalls to the engl amp he uses here (too clean and dry)!Anyway, let mamlsteen carry the torch he lit!!
The first time I saw Rainbow it was Graham Bonnet. Rainbow Opened for B.O.C. but did the whole Down to Earth Album which I bought the next day. On LP. They were Excellent. Then I saw the Bent Out of Shape Tour in 84. Rainbow the Headliner. Joe Lynn Turner the singer. Did great till he tried to sing "I want to Love You". Well his voice couldnt hit the notes. This guy Doogie in this video next to Dio is Great.I wish I saw this version Great Light show.
i must agree with you dio was the best ever doogie the scotish guy was good too.turner had a voice good for bluesrock and bonnet was good too.i like the marshall amps more than the engl there are too clean marshall amps sounding more natural and massive .perfect sound for a concert with only marshall amps they are the best amps ever built.good concert i was there full house(8000) people in Duesseldorf philipshall germany
Richie who, sorry I missed who he was....but seriously I hung in with Blackmore's whimms from Dio to Turner and stuff like
'Stone Cold' was a kick in the musical kidneys. Heard the corpse of Rainbow really briefly with Dougie but I was gone. When they were economical and tight a top band whoever the line up but Richie could toss off stuff like 'the snow' till the cows came how and 75% of the time he was a lazy bast*rd. EG Most of Straight between the eyes/bent out of shape, a joke really.
Blackmore is one of the best guitar players of all time. His solo work is so amazing, he always play "for the song" on a high tecnical standard. And - he is very fast! His picking technic is perfect.
Ritchie looked a little pissed after his name was announced. I read once where Doogie said that RB took him aside after a show and told him to stop announcing his name because the audience knew who he was. I wonder if it was after this show? Anyway, great video.
Ritchie abit slacking in the solo department of this song comparing to the last previous concert with Joe Lyn Turner, look like his in no mood, But no doubt Ritchie is one of the best guitarist we grow up to.
Pensar que Blackmore inventó en Hard Rock y ahora todos los payasos le copian...
