@hueman17 thanks Brother , i grew up w this album in a small Air Force base outside of klammath Falls , Ore. i would give my right arm to hear this album again. i thought i would never find it or any track from it. now almost 40 years later i m a pro trumpet player in Hong Kong and i m leading a band playing this kind of stuff. the man that posted this track will never be without a drink as long as i got some cash. i thank u guys from the bottom of my heart.
@hueman17 i thought i would never even find out the artists name, i would listen to this album almost every morning b4 school as a kid in 71 or so, i thank u brothers and the great YouTube for making such important recollections to me possible.
@greenzo6o8 Copyright law in the U.S. is expansive and oppressively enforced. No one should be ignorant of this law or its consequences. Basically, if you use any intellectual property without permission created after 1932 you are subject to prosecution as a felon and millions of $'s in damages. The Fair Use clause offers no protection from abusive lawsuits by the RIAA and other copyright holders. Free culture by Lawrence Lessig is a good primer on copyright law and its effects.
@greenzo6o8 Interpolation is a DSP technique that modifies the original audio. Thus, you would have to pay to clear a sample that you've interpolated because your still using the original performance. However, Dre did not use this technique. Instead he paid musicians to perform the song. However, the composer who wrote the song will still have to be paid copyright fees. Yes, even cover bands must pay these fees when they release albums.
@greenzo6o8 A band pays mechanical royalties for performing covers so it would follow that you pay for interpolations just not as much as a direct sample and its harder to prove in court.
not true my friend, the erykah badu one came out a year after dre's 2001, which dropped in '99, it was a remix of xxplosive or something, but this was dre all the way from the beginning
xxplosive lol damm why doesnt dre make his own catchy beats why does he always sample and make everyone think he did it? hes a good producer but man hopefully detox is 100% dre
The sample used for still D.R.E was sped up too,I think it just depend what sample you take,he just make the speed get to the point where it's in his "rythmical pattern" if you know what I mean, but still he's the greatest
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Dre gets someone to replay most the samples he uses. Also this copy of the song sounds like shit, it's really off, like someone put it through too much noise filtering or something.
Lil Kim sampled this track for her song "Drugs", I appreciate the original artists and others who makes these classics that rap artists sample for their music
i used to be ignorant like you till i found out music is built on samplin..i swear songs tht r made from samples 2day get their samples from songs tht were samplesd from an even older song in some way which itself may be sampled.. its all a cyle of reinvention
@geoffpeas but most of it is just an interpolation of previously released compositions. Either which way you look at it, they aren't making their music completely of their own imagination, so I still don't get why people that sample get hammered down upon so much.
@7gNoS7 not really. I mean, if you put it in perspective, someone had to discover the scales, chords and progressions etc we all use at some point, the drums beats, time signatures, keys. People find or created the basic elements of music as well know it today long before us and all we have done since is build upon them, no one is "original" as far as music goes, we all borrow/sample depending on how you look at it. Genre's exist for a reason, they're built upon similar structures, just rehashed
@7gNoS7 a producer records a session player jamming for 30 minutes, then selects the parts he likes best and uses them to create a song. Many great records were created this way (see Led Zeppelin, Egar Winter etc.) In hip hop the producers were utilizing sampler technology to do the exact thing at home. They took already recorded material (vinyl) and selected the parts they wanted to use as their sonic palette. This also evolved from record 'selectas' (DJs) in Jamaica's dance halls (Kool Herc..)
@UrbanCrunkMovement first off let me say i am a lil impressed with what seems to be extensive knowledge in the musical arts, bravo. i'm saying not everyone only reproduces, and this is only my opinion, i see how one could say EVERYTHING originated from somewhere therefore it is ALL copied, i mean God is the original CREATOR you could say we are ALL just trying to imitate creation period. you know?
You're right - this is a beautiful track. This record keeps showing up in a lot of the record stores in Philly..I am going to keep an eye out for it now. Thank you.
