Yes. The sound is actually being transmitted through the lens housing and camera body to the internal microphone. If you use an external microphone, even one mounted on the flash hotshoe, the IS motor noise is usually not audible.
Hi, well that's a bit of draw back and one that I have not seen in the Photo forums as yet. Do you use a microphone on your hotshoe mount? if so could you give me a link to the kind you have or have tried out?. As I say I am getting this camera next week and any tips are welcome. although mostly I would have it turned off as I have a Sony HVR-Z1E for pro work and the canon clips would be edited with background music as audio visuals. The text isn't blocking anything. LISTEN for the motor noise. That is the IS motor. Also, when there is no text displayed, look for the image shifting suddenly. That is the result of the IS recentering itself.
This was really a throwaway clip, but I thought it would be useful to show what happens when you use IS.
I will be getting one of these in a week or so!. Does the IS noise transmit to the internal mic??. Thanks
