the show was interesting cos it wasn't just a normal kids show it was a programme that most people enjoyed to watch rather than the sort of show that once it came on you would rather potter about the house than sit and watch it which is what most childrens programming can be like. it appealed to kids primarily but adults could also enjoy it
@Kaynas1988 Its because the CBBC management at the time were trying to narrow the age demographic to 6-12, and in doing that made shows like Byker Grove and Grange Hill really safe and crap until they axed it. I've read somewhere that now their now gonna make their programmes more teen friendly.
Absolute classic. I remember when Grange Hill hit our screens at 5:10pm on a Tuesday when I was starting senior school in 1978. I wish the BBC would release further classic episodes on DVD beyond series 4.
God and 'Grange Hill' was so badass in its heighday. But now they couldn't make the show they would want it to be. They wouldn't be able to beacuse just children watch 'Grange Hill' now wheras in the 80s, childrens BBC was the only thing for teenagers but now the've got BBC Three & Channel 4 ('Hollyoaks', YUCK!).
They dont know what children like and why she saying they want more programs its not like they dont show enough repeats you can almost guarantee tracy beaker will be on every day.
lmao..Newsround gleefully reporting the demise of GH...they might as well have said.."BUT WE ARE STILL GOING STRONG...HA,HA!"
...not in my opinion, though..this modern, dumbed-down, flashy Newsround is a ghastly decline from the halcyon days of John Craven bringing World affairs for the younger viewer with a sense of class and civility to the nations tea-times.
They don't they import programmes, and rerun shows they made years ago, ITV closed it's Granada Kids production in cutbacks. CBBC is the only one who still produces programmes.
It's the end of an era. I watched the show in the classic years (around 1978-88). Saw a bit of one a while back and it's appalling these days, so probably as well it's got the axe.
Grange Hill had been past its prime for about 5-10 years before they cancelled it.
If anything, Being in Phil Redmond's shoes I'd have ended it in 1998 or at least 2003 when the school burned before the Scousification.
It deserved a better ending that the piss-poor one it got.

"so lots of you won't be happy" the way lizo said that, makes me feel patronised, and not everyone will be unhappy.
