I think we should focus on the true victims of this story, frog hunting is inhumane and frogs deserve civil rights jus as much as we do, not to be hunted.
OK. There is a 20 cent light bulb that is out. The gear IS down. SO WHAT? They crashed because those stupid ATC and pilots didn't pay attention to the altitude!
The pilots should have been aware of the plane and not the light bulb. In my perspective, the pilots are at fault. ATC has to monitor multiple planes. The pilots were too busy fucking around in the cock pit when they could have easily asked their flight attendent if they heard the gear go down.
What a cocky captain, djees. He deserved to crash. Due to his bad personality, and his lacking skill. Its just sad he took so many other people with him.
You would think that maybe if they did a fly by they could have someone from the control tower to tell them if it's down. Why does everything have to be so freakin' complicated...
atc"you are 300 ft below flt level, remain at flt 2000" did not happen-SOP; dropping below set aoutpilot flt level or auto P switched off, would've given audible and visual alarms; atc would've given airport alltitude, ILS w/ IFR (instrument flight rules) night or bad weather; audible/visual alarms would also have sounded if aircraft detered from set parimeters. others who fly will think it amazing the faults that had taken place in such a short time . glad to see others commenting..... guy c.
total failure on the crew and atc! Just one of them looking at what was going on and communicating it........................this never would've taken place.
I disagree with the issue of swearing ... under stress and unexpected emergency people can use language they normally wouldn't. It's people who use language like that in everyday conversation who ought to shut up.
What I can't believe is that there were 4 guys in the cockpit and NOBODY noticed the plane's altitude was dropping???
Perhaps if the air trafffic controller had done less of the soft, easy to hear questions the sort of miss the point ones like 'how are things going up there' which are intended to probe the situation but not really fix it. And done a more direct statement like 'EAL 401 you have dropped to 900feet! pull up!!'. Lives might not have been lost.
Yes a 20 cent piece of lighting equipment caused them their lives and killed almost all their passengers. 20 cent piece of light equipment =their deaths and half their passengers death.
@MissWooHoo1 Not likely. They're covered in jet fuel - what wants to eat that? Plus, it seems like it would be obvious that they're too big to eat. I don't think that was a big danger.
I have watched so many of these and they all are sad but helps you to become more aware.. This one breaks my heart because all of these people lost their life over a light bulb. I'm so glad that guy was there to help save so many people. Truly sad !!
@ghostintheshelll I think the ability of keeping your cool (swearing or not) and landing a plane effectively, or completing a mission successfully determines whether you are a professional or not. It has nothing to do with your choice of words....
@hAhan17 Actually, there was a warning sound, but the crew were so busy dealing with the landing gear issue, they just missed it. Investigators clearly heard it on CVR tape.
@ghostintheshelll oh ya, my fault, i realized after watching the next part, the chime was on another work station, the engineer went to check the landing gear and miss it, the other two pilots were confused by the lights and missed it too...
The warning sound was to indicate that the aircraft was far below the altitude set for the autopilot even though it was still under autopilot control, due probably to the captain inadvertently pushing the control column down. The warning was an inconspicuous chime noise from the engineer's station. There was no terrain alarm because this aircraft didnt have one.
@fightingtemeraire I fully agree with you, the warning sound was a flawed design, it should have been a loud, disturbing sound, clearly audible to the crew.
@hAhan17 you're right, there's a video of another plane in which pretty much every instrument failed, except for the "too low, terrain" alarm. and it's a voice that repeats that message over and over, so they couldn't have missed that. Why didn't that work? i think you're right, they plane thought it was landing because it had the gears down
pariently the Boeing aircraft has that feature but this plane is a lockead, they might have accidently kill the autopilot, the autopilot suppose to hold the plane in the air, and if you want to turn you turn the heading knobs, if you want to climb or decent you turn the altimiter hold, they might have killed the autopilot. I don't know.
4 trained and experienced staff in the cockpit and a small bulb caused this to happen. Nowadays a young two man crew would be able to deal with this no problems at all....
@iiiset yup..... but i think this disaster happened from god so that everyone NOW can learn from it and experience how to really fly a plane... and there is no such thing as death cause their is an afterlife. the people that went from earth to heaven or afterlife are having a good time with god. earth is just a project that god made for us to live and come back to our homes which is heaven where god is.

wow they suck... if you see 80 ft on your altimeter then pull the fuck up!!! ASAP it took then 2 seconds to finally pull on the stick that would have been enough to pull up... don't they have a ground proximity warning system?? wtf what a noob forgot to put the landing lights on
@leviathan94xxx GPWS wasn't invented then. this accident was part of the reason it was. still though, a 30 year veteran, flying like a noob. almost merciful he died, really.
What this disaster shows is a sad observation on human nature...that such an obsession over a small thing (the bulb) can so easily over-ride every safety imperative...
@SpaceVulcan Because virtually every airliners including Eastern 401 are not equip with GPWS. Although GRPWS was already develeoped at the time of the crash, but they are not manditory until 1974.
Why were there 20,000 kg of fuel onboard right before landing? Were they making a stopover on their way to somewhere else? This is a nonstandard amount of extra fuel, no?
