It's been an awesome display of mateship by the whole country over the last few weeks. I went down to Vic with a couple from my RFS bigade to fight the fires and saw the devestation and also the generosity first hand. Victoria is hurting big time but she'll be back. I think the flood victims giving their relief money to the Vics was the best thing i'd ever heard.
There's a bit of ANZAC spirit in all of us when times get tough!
We had our share of fires in Sydney and the Central Coast but nothing compared to what Victoria is still going through. A real tragedy, considering some fires were caused by arson. We're raising money and collecting tools for the victims, hoping they get some rain soon. Cheers, Bob.
Some of that rain would be nice over here in SA.... We've got a massive rainwater tank that's empty! All the plants and trees are yellow and grey... Anyway, good as video, I loved the "dickhead" part... haha... I'm gonna subscribe! PEACE!
G'day mate, the bush fires hit Vic, I live only about 70k's away from some of the worse hit areas. I would like to say good on Queenslanders, one part the country is under water and another part of the nation is on fire. Its great to true blue Aussie spirit come out, even in the most shitful of times!!
so sad. I heard this all started because some one set a fire and it got fanned by winds. is that what you all hear? just such a tragedy. we are getting news coverage, even on our local stations but probably not as detailed as you are hearing.
Ingham has had the worst, there's a little damage mainly in usual areas in T'ville. But there are still isolated outlying and rural areas that we've not heard from yet and the water is on it's way southwest now so it'll be their turn next. Even now as I type this there's lightning and thunder and the roof is thundering in response to the heavy rain AGAIN.
With such a poor start to the year, YES, the REST is going to get BETTER AND BETTER!
G'day geoff, you must have sent the rain down here to Brissie mate, last night we got 128mm. I hope it makes it to Victoria. Today at Petrie state school we raised 2,500 bucks for the bushfire victims, it's times like this the true Aussie spirit shines through.
Very true mate, but we mustn't forget the other countries, who of their own accord, have simply seen and heard of the mess and started sending donations even before we'd quite taken a breath! Frankly, I was still taking it all in when I was getting emails and messages from all over the world asking me ofr information and where to send money.
Looks like no one escapes the fires and floods these days - you all got hammered just as bad as we did here in southern California. The fires kicked out butts and while we haven't had the floods too bad yet, the rainy season is just getting started!
Hi Geoff so sorry to hear about the fires and the floods, you take care now, ok? I hope to have a bit to send to help either way, thanks for the links on the video. We have some local flooding here but nothing like you've been having. BBW
Best of luck to you guys over there in Australia on getting the fires under control. I've been hearing some of these fires were deliberately set and I definitely hope you catch those bastards. 5 stars my friend
It's a beautiful thing what Queensland is doing for Victoria. Hopefully mother nature will blow those rain clouds down over Victoria soon. You have a great presence on screen Geoff. Thanks for using that to share such an important message. :)
Thanks for posting this. I'm planning to send anything I make this month from my YouTube partner revenue in to help out. It's not a lot, but it's something. I was going to make a video similar to yours, but I kept having problems with the editing software. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.
Thanks for doing that Jim. I'm not one for 'jumping on the bandwagon' when people usually all make videos about a cause or a farewell to a lost tuber, etc. But in this case, I encourage everyone to promulgate the information as publicly and widely as possible.
That is what i would like to think is one of Australias best cultural traits. Shrugging off your own hardship because your mate has it worse. Gigolo8, thank you for your kind and wise sentiment.
Hi Geoff! I just finished watching some videos of Townsville floods and I hope that things are getting better for your city too. It was pretty easy to donate from the US through the Salvation Army site (you have to state in a box that it should be sent to the Victorian bush fires) They also allow you to give your donation in someone's memory so I sent it in Nick's name. Like you he was so proud of Australia; he also showed so much caring for those less fortunate than him. Take care!
I understand Geoff. I watched Nick's videos even before I signed up on YT; I still get a lump in my throat when I think of him too - even after 8 months. It was so clear to everyone how much he respected and cared for you. I also know that he would be really upset about the tragedy occurring in your beautiful country; at least we can do something on his behalf now. Adriana

Thanks for the video Geoff, you have floods up your way, and we have bush fires, we could do with your rain. I'm in Eltham 25 km NE from Eltham and is 15 km South from St Andrew which got hit, thankfully it hasn't come further South.
How's the weather up in Cairns, do you know? I heard my friend went on a holiday in Cairns, and I haven't heard from him in ages. But yeah I was just wondering if the flooding was happening up there...
So many people have died in the Victorian Bushfires! It's tragic!! The last count I heard was over 180 dead :-( I also heard that the police believe that only one of the fires was started by an arsonist, unlike what so many thought at the beginning. Hope they can all get more help quickly!!
Oh, and Coles (and I think Woolworths as well) have said that all the profits they get on Friday Feb 13 will go to helping the bushfire victims. so if people don't normally shop there, then friday would be the time to do it
Thank you for that Geoff. I've been depressed about this all week being from Victoria, and having friends and family there. My prayers and blessings to them, especially my cousins in Mansfield. I think they lost their house. God Bless 7h3 541n+

All is well as I sit here typing in my SCUBA Gear hehhe. No Seriously, we chose where we live very carefully in order to avoid things like floods and fire.
Having said that, now I've probably jinxed myself into an earthquake.

NO worries K25, I'd made it yesterday but YT messed the upload up so badly(after a five hour upload and processing time) i had to re-edit it and all, all over again. I liked yours better btw and you'll find it on my page!
Even from the other side of the world we have looked with horror at the scenes on the news.....such a tragedy. Well done mate - you're the first aussie I subscribe to who has covered this and given the practical info we need to do our little bit to help. Good on'yer
We get a lot of these here in So. Cal USA and due to bing former law enforcement as well as former military I has been to several. Here in Port Hueneme we are protected by flat farm land but every couple of years the smoke gives us dark at noon. I am sorry to hear about this and my prayers are with you wonderful country. As I have said before the Digger Troops I have workesd with in War and Peace are always the finest. Australia is the only other country I would consider living in!

It appears some were alledgedly deliberately lit and at least one may have been due to a poorly maintained powerline falling.

My thoughts are with everyone who has suffered at the hands of Oz's extreme weather.
Gotta luv Oz, but 2009 is off to a bad start and I hope it only gets better from now on.
Such sadness everywhere, but also it's been very heartwarming to see Aussies band together in these troubled time.

NO worries K25, I'd made it yesterday but YT messed the upload up so badly(after a five hour upload and processing time) i had to re-edit it and all, all over again. I liked yours better btw and you'll find it on my page!

I waffled a lot so I put yours on my mainpage on the vlog section - the main thing is that the info gets out to people.
Thanks K25
