nice flathead iv seen them but never hooked one my self but hope to see how i do in the winter to i have always bank fished a few times on a boat but just started fishing so good luck on hooking a big one
LOL you cannot tell from the video but what inexperienced big fish anglers do not know is that he is holding that cat's mouth so tight right there that if he were holding your hand he would break every bone in your fingers.
ha holding rod upside down, walking back and forth, not keeping the rod tip up, horsing the hell out it. your lucky to have gotten it in must have been hard when reelling backwards the whole time. you know you can probably switch the handle to the other side.
Bout a 30 pounder, Flatheads always look bigger than they are because of the huge heads. It goes the other way with blues and channels, they always look smaller than they are. Either way, it's a rare catch on a rod and reel! Good Job!
@TheMinnesotaNice basic fish hunting skills are necessary...you need to know where they like to hang out. Normally you'll find a lot of catfish along breaks in the current, especially at the bottom of dam's. They also love structure, so whatever you can find in the water like a submerged tree or rock piles. Cast into those areas. You can also cast into the channel with enough weight on your rig to keep it stable. Also catfish are pretty much out of season for now, good luck catching them.
@xXksepwnsXx well as long as your drag is set right on your reel, 10 pound test mono can catch a 15 pound catfish. A 15 pound test can catch 20 pounders.
Use monofilament line with low-medium drag. In murkier water a heavier pound line would be wiser as lines that have a bigger pound test are more visible underwater.
@ImSeanF yeah well i went to my local fishing shop and all they have are reels that hold6-10lb line...does it matter if i put a lil bigger line on a reel like that?i was thinkng maybe 12 lb ill be good maybe even 12 lb spider wire
Heck yeah! Nice catch! I have always heard catfish in the Mississippi River were huge. What state are you in? Looks like Tennessee? The bridge in the far back ground looks like that of West Memphis crossing into Memphis...
i find cut up chicken liver works great i remeber one time me and my dad cuaght so many fish we had to disiced witch catfish we wanted to keep cuz we had so many and we where over our limit lol so we had to throw some back all dicent size 2 i think we caught one 20 pounder the rest where like 5 or 3 but still pretty dicsent size
@galyn30 i thing you are the high side there looks more around 30 to 35 not 40 just but the fact the the gut on it was not all that big so you might have hooked a fish that was or just did get done spawning.
@RangersAirsoft Depends on what type of fish you're trying to catch, there are a LOT of different cat fish species and different ones prefer different baits. The one in this vid is a flathead cat and they prefer live bait as opposed to stink baits, not saying you wont catch a flat from time to time, but you're more than likely NOT going to catch anything big unless you use live bait.
@6000Teresa lol i did not even notice that untill i read your comment but it is a closed face real and most reals like that you can not move the handle to the other side and he is left handed (well i am assuminng he is)
@651mikey honest to god, you can use damn near anything for catfish anywhere...i have had much success and still use osacr mayer wieners, just use like 1/4 of one per hook
@LURKSS ya hot dogs work good but i use. old catfish bait mixed with wheaties, spray cheese in a can, and cottonballs mix it up. It works really good.
Thats about a 20 lb flat, flats always look bigger than they are due to wide head. Thats not a big one, I've got a picture of a 40lber and thats not big either, LOL, now my Uncles 89lb Flat, or my buddies 84lb are big ones.
its a cheap 20 dollar combo from walmart not a team catfish rod but hey this proves you dont need really exspensive equipment to catch fish....like most people seem to think
that a shakespere tiger from walmart...there only $20 but believe it or not they are great rods for $20 I use to use them for channel cats in the mo river and i used my bait casters for the big ones on my good rod!!!
why is he using a closed face reel? and the wrong way lol

xXksepwnsXx 1 year ago
@xXksepwnsXx How big of fish are you fishing for?
ImSeanF 1 year ago
@ImSeanF well i caught a 27 inch catfish last night im guessing it was MAYBE 10 lbs idk but i have no clue how big the cats get around my area
xXksepwnsXx 1 year ago

xXksepwnsXx 1 year ago
@xXksepwnsXx Spiderwire is usually braided line. You want monofilament.
I would recommend Berkley Triline 14 lb test in green.
Monofiliament lets the line stretch a little, braided does not

@ImSeanF
