  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who was traumatized as a child by the guy getting split apart.

  • the illuminati

  • really the only decent in the whole movie

  • Wait...the black guy LIVED!?

  • Tornado?

  • Astronauts: Hm...A FUCKING GIANT, SENTIENT, ROARING TORNADO. Let's all just stand still and watch it.....

  • nice graphics for 2000s

  • That scene where the guy spins to his death is horrifying. I feel sad for how that guy's life ended like.

  • OK, I can't feel any sympathy for these idiots. This is mainly because if I saw a hurricane alone (or tornado - I'm not good at differentiating), I would run for it. Screw the science, screw the potential discovery; I would run. These idiots stand and stare at it, even when it starts to show signs that it is alive and points DIRECTLY AT THEM. These guys are morons, and I'm really not that sad that they die. If they acted rationally, I might feel some form of sadness.

  • @RoboCorpse3000 OK. What do you mean?

  • This is a fucking Disney movie rated PG! What is this scene doing here?

  • @ 3:32 FINISH HIM!, RED SAND CREATURE WINS FLAWLESS VICTORY.... KILLER FATALITY. if that creature was a character in mortal kombat cause it would earn that type of victorious combo

  • If only that death spin was Ermac's fatality in the new Mortal Kombat game

  • Disturbing...

  • NASA in Mars in 2020? lol

  • This was the only cool part of the film. Those idiots deserved it for not running like a normal, sane human being.

  • bunch of fucking idiots just standing there while this shit goes down

  • 1:38 If I see a tornado like that I'll ran away!

  • I saw this movie in theaters and when that guy got ripped apart I felt uneasy for the rest of the movie.

  • @alieskici

well, since they they beemed the wrong signal at it it thought they werent human they didnt know the DNA code thing yet

  • Looks like Penis the smoke is

  • 3:37 OMG!

  • I'd have started running the MINUTE that sand started rising

  • Ridiculous! If it creator of human, why destroying them. And after that why agreeing them to ship! Stupid scenario!!

  • Pause at 3:34.......now imagine that that is your face. major ouch. and why the hell is this a disney movie?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • They shouldve had at least one more member on the team tht got crushed by the rock. then it wouldve been more interesting. but still a great movie. ^^

  • I guess it's just the art historian and artist in me, but a lot of the visuals in this movie--most of all, the alien face structure and the alien at the end--looked like artwork done by Constantin Brancusi and Amadeo Modigliani--it has that primitive abstract style combined with that Art Deco style of the 1920's and 30's. Did anyone else see that?

  • @zipthepinhead no. nobody....

  • @zipthepinhead i was thinking Adolfo Wildt's Madonna... but you are right. Perhaps Constantin Brancusi's Sleeping Muse is just as fitting as an analog...

  • @fatalexcerpts Yes! That one especially! The alien base/structure looks almost exactly like that sculpture. And the alien face at the end does look like Wildt's Madonna. If you've ever looked at the concept art and storyboards for this movie (they were included as extras on the DVD) the resemblance really becomes apparent and you see where much of the inspiration for the Mars visuals were coming from--art from the 20's and 30's that was in turn based on ancient art from Africa and the Cyclades.

  • lol the black guy "umh, there is a giant tornado-cobra and my friends are standing right in front of it...let's see what's gonna happen...(a minute later) oh, they die "

  • i love that movie ... but i believe that mars have a creepy history and i hope the first humans on mars will get there no nightmare things....

  • Why were they still standing there when the mountain first went ape? Human instinct...not to mention professional instinct as an astronaut...should have told them to haul their azz out of there right away.

You see the ground moving. Your first impression should be to think, EARTHQUAKE! Who stands around pondering an earthquake...or in this case, a marsquake?

  • Pause at 3:37 okay and keep in mind THIS IS A FUCKING DISNEY MOVIE

  • @DoDoitSoStinky The film was partially inspired by the Disney attraction of the same name,

  • First 10 minutes with don cheadle was great.

The film the just becomes one awful lovey dovey soap opera with buff actors with fair skin rescuing Cheadle

WORST film I have seen in 2011

  • What an amazing Movie =)

  • 1:10 SPACE JUNK

  • pause it at 3:37. lololololololololololololololololol

  • i suppose there is a moral to this part of the movie. Never go to places that God did not intend us to go to?????

  • @DudeInDenial

you're more of an idiot than De Palma, or the people that like this shitty movie.

  • Does anyone remember the purpose of the self-aware evil tornado ?

  • ..these guys are idiots lol.. you run when this happens..u don't stand around LOL

  • I can't believe they stood around as long as they did. If I was an astronaut there as soon as that weird radio sound came to a sudden stop and dust started floating and being sucked in one direction I'd be OUT! I'd run my ass off and not stop until I was back in the ship blasting off that damn planet.

  • How exactly can the effects from the vortex disembody Sergei and Kirov?

As for Graham, I guess it's safe to say you can a survive a vortex if you're under heavy ground....

  • I guess it's safe to say the safe place from the vortex is...underground!?!

  • what the fuck is wrong with people?! this movie is rated for 12 year old children here and they see how humans get their faces crushed by rocks oder be ripped apart screaming.. i mean really: WTF?!

  • @Kreppklebeband

no they see really cheesy scenes with over the top violence. What's wrong with you? Let me guess, in your opinion video games are to blame for that Arizona shooting that was all over the news.

  • @Grungadin

ye sure. you're right, why not show little children saw, hostel and stuff like that... and by the way, no, i do not think that video games cause school shootings. we had the same discusion here in germany too, after what happened in erfurt and winnenden.

  • I love this sound so strange ^^

  • That sound made me pee my pants when i was a kid

  • most painful death ever feeling all your muscles being torn apart by the fast swirling motion of the tornado and slowly being ripped apart plus all your organs being torn up due the high amount of g was in that tornado makes it even worse

  • Run Nigga Run!!!!!!!!!

  • 3:31 AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • This movie is Magic ! :D

  • I don't understand this part. They're scientists, but none of them thought, "OH MY GOD A FUCKING TORNADO RUN LIKE HELL"

  • @gecko7564 That's the thing with most scientists, they put knowledge before safety

  • @gecko7564 LOL...try running with gusts of wind going hundreds of miles per hour and debris flying everywhere. It would've picked up the vehicle too!

  • @gecko7564 Haha too true

  • I'm surprised this was rated PG with this scene.

  • Why did they put something so gory in a movie about a disney ride? I love gore, don't get me wrong, but that just seems like a bad choice... maybe part of why this film didn't do so hot.

  • "Get the fuck away" acures way to late for believability!

  • press 6 constantly very good...

  • With robots you never have to worry about death.

  • LOL at 2:35 hahaha wth

  • 3.36 oh god..

  • if i saw something like that my first instinct would of been to run rover and get the hell out of there

  • I was probably ten or eleven when I saw this and I must say, I don't even remember seeing that guy get ripped apart.

  • @Unclesamslair Oh, I remember it...

  • looks like a big dick to me.......

  • Mythbusters should try to see if a human body would be ripped apart by a sentient tornado-thingie. My question is - as far as the physics go...would your body be spinning round round like a record baby (pun intended) or was this DePalma's idea of psychologically scarring a generation of children?

  • @tiredofphailspelling Because parenting skills in the US is dropping like a anvil in water.

  • Gee, maybe the big angry tornado thingie is a hazard...lets step away...nah nevermind, what could happen...

  • I saw this movie when I was ten, I started bawling after the guy got ripped apart.

Lol now I cant get enough of it.

  • can u upload a clip of the opening mars scene where the little rover is driving around? be greatly appreciated!!

  • Stupid fuckers never seen or heard of a tornado?!? Never heard of seek shelter immediately when severe weather strikes?!? Just goes to show you just because you have a degree doesn't mean your smart. Fuck'n deserved to get your arms, legs and head ripped off!!! By the way I was nine and this scene also traumatized me. : )

  • Ok watched it

And loved it but I didnt let my kids watch it just in case.

  • Hey I never seen this one

    And thats my thing!

Bad movie or not Im @ it Thanks for the Vid

  • 3:33 - 3:38 - OUCH!

  • They DID NOT go to the moon, They're not going anywhere but to hell!

    Believe that.

  • I stumbled upon this video today after having not seen it in like....at least 8 years I guess. And holy hell, just as disturbing now as it was then, specially after reading the comments from people noticing how is his face is be spun apart.... ._.

    PG my ass.

  • This is the only scene I remember from the whole movie when I saw it as a kid!

  • This scene scared the shit out of me when I first watched it. I love this movie.

  • I'll be danged: the black man doesn't die.

  • @thegei the black guy always dying is a cliche that doesnt really exist anymore.

The evil white haired coporate middle aged white guys still does though.

  • @chris371 and neither it does in this movie, he lives haha :p

  • And this movie was PG! in 2000, which was when the MPAA turned into total wimps!

  • @sidewinder468 ...except of course for the smaller yet positively charged debris cause by that dust devil, which could actually make you get struck by lightning. :P

  • Liked this movie but after seeing it a third time it actualy deserves the 1 and a half stars rating it got…but I still like it.

  • Okay... the species that kicked started evolution on earth and left our solar system in light speed, did not install a "life form scanner" that could scan if it was humans/life forms from Earth outside or not.

Instead they just expect that they should figure out that they have to transmit it? So what if an alien from an other world sendt the "face" the human DNA code, it would think it was from Earth?

One of the many plot holes in this movie.

Great music though and nice effects.

  • @stiant06 All I can say is, Ive seen most of De Palma's movies and he is one sick individual. I mean the guy is either on really heavy drugs when he comes up with these ideas, or he is a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic. heh :)

  • lmao. I love uncovering repressed traumatic experiences from my childhood.

  • hey at 3:11 thats kavan smith they guy who plays Major Evan Lorne On Stargate Atlantis

  • -Are you gettin that, Sergey?

    -aga... O_o

  • That thing is totally wicked :S

  • i love this movie

  • lol, same Dcastkid. That scared me for so many years

  • When I saw this as a kid, the part where the guy get ripped apart gave me nightmares for months.

    Now, I LOVE this movie!

  • When you pause it and look at his face, it's even worse O_o

  • AGREED.

  • @Dcastkid and you gotta love the sound effects of it! :D

  • @omglmao12345 Oh, I do!

  • @Dcastkid

I had the EXACT same experience. This movie may not seem A-list material now, but as a seven year old, this thing was amazing.

  • @Dcastkid How about when his head stretches apart and gets turned into chunky salsa?

  • @msudreaming I'm including that in the ripping apart process.

  • @Dcastkid I remember the exact same thing! That gave me nightmares for about a year... :)

  • @Dcastkid omg, I was exactly the same lol! The noise is so eery

  • @Dcastkid

    IT GAVE ME NIGHTMARES TOO!

  • @Dcastkid

I'm still vomiting from this part^^

  • How could anybody be that stupid that they would just stand there in front of something like that? Especially scientist on a foreign planet!! Or maybe thats the point, that they're in such aw, like moths to a flame, that they're not thinking straight!

  • yea thats what kind of death we will find in space so lets take care of earth so people dont die like that lol

  • damn. I watched this 10 years ago and I pissed in my pants so hard that I couldn't watch it for 10 years. Now i'm standing here, agreeing that this cannot be rated PG.

  • So yeah, this movie should not be rated PG like it is.

  • i dont get it, why does this storm move like a ... snake, worm, whatever?

  • His body turns into pure bone

  • The fucked up thing is, dest devils get that big on Mars. They just aren't nearly that violent. The atmospheric pressure is so low that the updraft wouldn't be strong enough to lift you up. It would just throw tons of debris at you, some of which might be positively charged. Which means lightning could strike you while the massive dust devil goes over you.

  • But this tornado in the movie was caused by aliens.

  • this scene scares the shit out of me, where he gets ripped apart and the other one where he takes his helmet off, I feel sick now

  • I Remember Watching This As A Kid A Few Years Ago And The Noise That Comes Out Of That Face Use To Scare The Shit Outta Me Lmao Cant Help Being 12 Can You Haha

  • i was seven when i saw this movie..and this one scene scared the shit out of me..i did not notice how his face became deformed from the difference in pressure in the vortex...that is one guesome death

  • This was filmed right here in Canada.

  • nick mask got filled with blood thats why he stoped screaming

  • Comment removed

  • what is this thing on the man's face at 2:48?? is it a rock or his face burned by UV???

  • rock

  • earlier on she was slammed in the face by a rock.

  • It's a rock thrown by the "Thing".

  • The "Thing" is actually an angry Donald Trump because they're trespassing on his planet.

  • that was a girl

  • they were probably frozen with fear i meen i would its like staring at a bus thats about hit you and is that what happens to you in a tornado you just spin till you explode?

  • You get split apart. Or sandblasted....Sick huh? Pause on some parts, while he is spinning. His nose pops off, and little do you know his whole head explodes. Picture an apple in a blinder. That's the exact same way you are in a vortex over 400 miles per hour. i saw this when I was 10, and it scared the heck out of me. And it's a PG movie.

  • Think I read somewhere that the danger in a tornado really comes from flying debris. Like shrapnel if it hits you! Or just being tossed about like a rag doll before hitting the ground. Because the wind speeds can range between 200-300 mph or more in a circular vortex!

  • 3:33 that was cool, but why didnt they run?

  • that really is the creapiest sound ever...if i was anywere and started to hear that sound the only possibilty would be aliens...i think they made a good choice wit it

  • Heh, I was seven when this came out. My mom kept covering my eyes. >:(

  • what happend to Nick's face in the sandworn

  • His whole head explodes due to the pressure in the Vortex.

  • No I think his head just flies apart from the force of the speed he's being spun at, Or he was spun so fast, the blood seeped from his skin, like how your hand turns red when you spin it around really fast.

  • If you pause it real fast between 3:32 and when his helmet fills with blood, you can see what happens to his face. Right before he stops screaming, you can see (if paused) that his jaw is being ripped apart, his head is swelling, and you can see his skull being stretched. Disturbing, huh?

  • they should really make those helmets shatterproof!

  • are the filmakers trying to tell us something?

  • wow, Cydonia. Made popular by the song Knights of Cydonia. Cydonia is the region on mars where the face lies.

  • this is what will happen when USA lands on mars: search on " lotto på mars" on youtube, and you can see.

  • i LOVE this move, but its not rocket science to realize you should RUN FROM A SENTIENT TORNADO!!!

  • @ravenhood7 RUN WHERE?? Think of what you just said. Do you actually think you can defy physics and run more than the speed of a tornado?? And even if you can, where do you find cover? It tears buildings apart - Ive not seen the film but I can imagine their only refuge must be their spaceship? Either way, there's not alot you can do to escape this.

  • @ravenhood7 True, but in 2020, everyone have become so lazy that they don't even understand the logics :/

  • LMAO

yet it still made a PG

  • I was ten when I saw this movie in a theatre on the first day that it came out.

And as a person who has forever looked up to the sky to see the stars on many nights, this movie totally took my breath away when I saw for the first time.

But now that I'm older and see clips of this movie on this website for the first time since I saw this movie . . .

I can assure you that if I was one of those astronauts I would have dropped some "Holy Shits" and "What the Fucks!" a whole lot more.

  • why the fuck are they just standing there when that tornado gets closer to them? i remembered watching this thinking "run fuckers run!"

  • God... the part were he is torn apart is so freaking disturbing.

I remember i saw it a long time ago and I think I got traumatized or something. That's just so wrong.

  • we are watching this in my seventh grade science class

  • Oh God...this scene makes me itch....so creepy

  • porfavor gringos porque critican tanto a esta pelicula es un a de las mjorsitas qu ehay, me puso los pelos de punta este video

  • unrealistic ?! what do you expect from a science-fiction-movie ? =)

  • oh come on they are some good parts!

  • I mean.. GEEZ... ... right before he's torn to peices, he sounds like a terrorfied child. It's horrible.

  • i love it, its so cool!!! screaming like a bitch!!!!!

  • @drinner I'd be a terrified child anytime, trapped in something like that, buddy.

    And so would you.

  • man... I HATE this part... I had NO IDEA it was going to be so gory and disturbing.. I hate when movies do that. MAJOR disapointment.

  • @drinner

    thats the best part!!

  • this is rly disturbing..and unrealistic..

  • If being inside that vortex on Mars can do that to you, imagine what an F5 tornado on Earth can do!

  • Please....you've been watching too much Twister (1996) lately.

  • man if i saw this thing rising up, i would have run from time ago lol

  • Wow...that is a cool scene. Didn't think the movie was that great over-all. But that scene is really disturbing.

  • Why didn't this monster attack the other crew? (the main characters of yhe movie)??

  • because nick and sergei stood next to the radar an i think the vortex thougt that they would be the agressors.

  • this scene scarred me for years, ever since I saw it when I was like 6 at my grandparents house :(

it's still in my basement (on VHS)

never got the courage to watch it again, until now :)

    only took 7 years :(

  • the first thing i would have done if i saw an irregular cyclone-like sandstorm like that would be to run my fucking ass off...also that last part has probably got to be one of the worst ways to die...yet the coolest

  • i agree

  • MUMUMUMMUMUMUM MONSTER KILL

  • It's scary how that by 2020 we might actually have a manned mission go to Mars O_O

  • by 2020?

perhaps, I'd imagine we'd get to Mars by 2050, but who knows...

  • I dunno, NASA already has a bunch of computer simulations of theoretical Mars Missions...
