Should you be offended if someone says you are pretty for a dark skinned girl? Yes. Because you are beautiful and when someone says you are pretty for a dark skinned girl its almost as if they are interjecting but in the compliment. In society, especially black society we think the white European standard of beauty is the only definition of beauty. So we prefer lighter skinned, straight haired, etc blacks. But there are plenty of amazingly gorgeous dark skinned people too! :)

They automatically assume because we are attracted to the same sex that we inherit the qualities of our opposite sex. Its an ignorant compliment. Its like when someone says "you look great for a woman your age." You know the person means well, they just don't know its offensive. Trust me I used to be one of these people.
You have a right to get offended, but you still probably shouldn't. The person in question probably just isn't too experienced with such things. Best to tell them that it was rude, but don't show you were upset. Give them a positive experience on how to behave.

I have the same thing, I fancy asian girls more than white girls and whites more than blacks in general so I would be more likely to hit on an average looking asian girl than an average looking black girl, however if i see a black girl i find really hot i would go talk to her too.

Great vid! To me, the whole "you're pretty for a dark-skin girl" negates the compliment, basically defeats the purpose of making the statement in the first place. And to me, because HE was dark-skin, too, that hurts much worse that if he were say, light-skin. It reflects self-hatred to me, anyway you look at it, dark or light.
