  • I own an exotic animal (sugar glider) but the difference is he is not a danger to me or any one else. Say Yes to DANGEROUSE exotic animal bands

  • @Armandocoolio I disagree. As a fellow glider owner, I believe in standing up for the rights of others who have different, perhaps more challenging animals than myself. I would dare say that animals like big cats, primates, etc, are a bad idea for MOST pet owners... but not all. I mean, should *I* have a tiger? NO. I don't have the expertise. But I would say there are many for whom a sugar glider is a bad pet, too. The thing is, the animal rights guys do not differentiate. UNITED we stand.

  • @kipluck Also its not fair to the animal thats used to hunting, running for miles to just being in a enclosure. No matter how big they arent half as happy as they would in the wild. Also small exotics like suggies, hedgehogs,STO have proven not to be danger to you or public and good in captivity.

  • if wild animals belong in the wild, where do people belong were we not given dominion over the creeping things of the earth[animals] with what measure we measure it will be meted out...life is sacred..if i obtain an 'exotic' captive born animal, love it because it is a special love i feel and wish to develope in knowledge and caring, dont think that is showing off only expressing my free will and accomodating a living creature for mutual advantage...where have i done wrong or violated natures laws?

  • Animal Rights crazies have this idea that humans are some sort of species from another planet, so everything we do is unnatural, and that living in the wild is like a Disney movie where everyone sings and plays in the sunshine all day.

If I were an animal, I'd rather be a well taken care of pet than live in the wild, where I'm more likely to die before I reach my first birthday by painful diseases, injury, starvation or being eaten alive.

  • Just what is the wild? Only humans understand the concept of 'wild', animals do not. Properly cared for, these 'wild' animals make excellent companions for the properly equipped caretaker. They bond with people far more strongly than our domesticated pets. Cats especially, adapt very well to living in captivity. And besides this, the keeping of many of these animals in captivity is the only long-term hope they have for survival.

  • Wild animals belong in the wild. It is CRUEL to force them to live in an unnatural environment and expect them to be content. I HOPE IT BECOMES ILLEGAL TO CAGE/KEEP WILD ANIMALS.

  • Saw your videos of your birdCan you spell hypocrite?

  • @REXANOEXOTICS The difference is a bird isn't dangerouse and have been breed in captivity for years. And chimps and lions are wild dangerouse animals.

  • @AMWYESHUASAVESAMW I agree....i also think that these 'owners' should have to live in the cages with their pets since they are telling us how well they take care of their animals and that the animals are so much better off in captivity..... sigh.......people suck

  • these images of a bikini-clad model holding the chain to a submissive lion or tiger sicken me. does it make you feel good to hold dominance over a larger, much more powerful creature?

lions and tigers belong in the wild or in natural, responsible sanctuaries. they are not the "pets" of ignorant people. they are not meant to cower at the heels of some stupid slut!

grrrrrrrrrrr!!!! as someone working to have her own animal sanctuary, this video appalls me.

  • Have you considered for a moment that this animal is submissive by its own free will? These cats have not been beat or coerced into submission-- they have been loved into a relationship. Watch the 'lazy lions videos on her website, and you will see that this is the way lions really are. And not only do I think these animals make good 'pets' in the hands of the qualified, responsible owners, but I wish everyone could have a pet lion. This world would be a whole lot better place!

  • Ha ha, I find it funny you see a bikini- clad whatever and a chain. It's people that learn to live WITH animals, not just beat an ar agenda drum. Any person ignorant would not be able to learn the ways of any animal and co-exist whether it's in "your" fashion or not. Where has conserving wild habitat gotten anyway?? I'd much rather have two eggs in two baskets than one in a half basket. You are right about they aren't the pets of ignorant people, I'll give you that one!

  • Laromone... what exactly have you done for any wild animals? What experience do you have? Or is it that you just like to spout off about tthings that you have no REAL idea about? Just curious.

  • oh i'm glad you asked!

i have a lot of experience working with wild animals- in fact, i spent two years employed at a roadside zoo, where the facts about exotic animal ownership were right-up-in-my-face! currently i have accepted an internship at a primate sanctuary in florida to help the victims of the exotic animal trade, traumatized individuals forced to act human. i am a devoted animal rights activist with a good bit of knowledge on the subject. i have also worked @ a kennel & a horse farm.

  • Let's see, you have worked with deadly horses, OK, I guess that makes you qualified to run a scamtuary. I have not read anywhere in any of your posts where you did anything to help the animals at the roadside zoo. You just said that you worked there. To me it's sounds like you're a typical AR groupee, in that you point fingers, but never take any action yourself, other than stalking videos and sites of those that care for exotic pets.

  • ...should i tell you my life story about helping animals, protesting, supporting liberation, working with AR groups, working without AR groups, treating abused animals with the respect they deserve, spreading knowledge of said roadside zoo's techniques and of other places? or are you going to let my opinion lie where it is?

    thanks.

  • Hmm, you have your own pets, rats and a python. Yet you disapprove of others having their own exotic pets, isnt that a little hypocritical? Think you might have emergency room syndrome? Youve only been exposed to bad animal owners, so they all must be bad. Or is it the superiority complex? Where you are the only one that knows what is right in the caring of animals.

  • You are working towards having your own sanctuary?!?! Yet believe that animals should roam free. Instead of opening another sanctuary why not help those already open, or help with their actual conservation in the wild. After all a sanctuary goes against the very thing you say you stand for. Let me guess, YOU know how to properly care for them which is why you can have a sanctuary. Does AR give you entitlement over other humans as well? Sanctuaries are NOT the only ones providing excellent care.

  • Allysia- you are being a sub-speciest , profiling and generally being a 'shit'. I personally raised a 10 day old macaque, didn't sleep, pee or shower alone for the first six months. She's past twelve years old now- totally intact including teeth and THUMBS and no abberant behavior. Still a sweetheart too. Your opinions seem to be based totally on ANIMAL RIGHTS AGENDA and you aren't considering you may just have an OPINION- doesn't make it true or right in the least. There's MANY good owners.

  • i hope you know that your "sweetheart" was forced from the arms of her true mother so that you could pretend to be her mom.

    how kind of you...

i would call you a 'shit' for doing something so awful to a poor mother macaque, but i'm not cruel. so i just shake my head in your direction...

  • No wonder I don't spend much time on comments- the self righteous elitist attitude of an animal rights activist- unless of course it is your choice of 'whatever'. No, I have plenty of children in my life- I just hope they can live in a world WITH animals rather than without.

  • Some people love dogs, some love exotics. There is no difference b/t owning a dog or a lion, they are both animals. The difference is the work required, and if people want to take the effort to raise them, why not? Their wild habitats are being destroyed by people. If private owners/zoos don't breed them they WILL become extict. The day humans stop encroaching on their territory is the day I will stop owning exotics. We all know that will never happen.

  • But WHY ? WHY? Why? must someone own an exotic pet? I just don't see the reason for it. Why must someone own a tiger? why must someone own a chimp? Why?

  • no one is forced to so no one must but we shouldn't be forced not to either. Many people don't like dogs and cats and could say te same thing.

  • the animals are forced into it. Dogs and Cats have been domesticated for yrs and depend on us so its not the same thing. A chimpanzee as a pet is ridiculous no one could ever provide them with the complex social and pyhsical needs that he would have in the wild. No one NEEDS to own one, ppl just WANT to own one and that is selfish.

  • i am still waiting for a good legitimate ans as to why someone NEEDS to own these animals. I believe it is for show, your bored with dogs and cats so you seek other animals and you seek endangered ones at that. What happens when that chimp becomes too strong to handle or be played with???/

  • No one needs too but no one NEEDS to live in a house or have electricity either we just WANT too. We could all live in huts and tents and make a much smaller impact on the world.

Most people have enough sense to know a tiger or chimp baby will grow up and not be a baby forever and they plan for that. Just like a good owner of a big dog or stallion would, both of which also can over power their owners as adults.

  • If you believe that the MAJORITY of pet chimpanzees stay with their owners till the day they die( they can live u to 60 yrs in captivity!) then you need a wake up call. I'm sorry but the evidence points to the contrary.

  • What evidence? That some wind up in sanctuaries, many of those are there because they were taken because of these stupid ban laws. You have an actual legitimate study with statistics on how many bred and sold compared to how may in rescue to show a percentage? Or are you just saying because some need new homes all must be abused?

  • It's much better to learn to live WITH than without. Feral cats? Feral dogs? Ever heard of them? So you wanna drive THAT ownership into extinction based on....what? Any animal can bite including humans. If some are capable of co-existing I think I'd be looking THAt way to learn rather than non- existence.

  • Nobody absolutely NEEDS to own a cat or dog, either. They can live out in the wild. Ever hear of feral cats? Also, who says anything about seeking endangered ones out? Not everyone who owns an exotic animal owns a chimpanzee for christ's sake.

  • Just because it's been done for ages does not make it any better or any worse than the same thing being done now with new species. No one NEEDS to live in a house, have electricity and running water ect. People lived a long time just fine without and had a much smaller impact on the earth. Save some animals, give up your house and go live in a hut. You WANT to live in a house and that arms the earth and animals so you are selfish.

  • it is selfish to try and domesticate an animal at the expense of the animals well-being. Rip them from their mothers so they have to depend upin you. Pull out their teeth and take of their thumbs. This is what some people do to chimps in order to "domesticate" them. Actually I did live in a tent for 2mnths in st.croix for a leather back conservation project and I did survive. So if you are willing to give up your house as well I'll take you up on the offer.

  • In what country? Nowhere in the US would it be legal to cut off thumbs. That's abuse and against the law no ban needed. Just like setting a cat on fire is against the law and would make as much sense to ban cats because of some abuse. Just ban abuse and enforce that. As for separating from mom so are domestics. Foals are forcefully weaned and left to scream for mom for days on end. Exotics are bottle raised so don't feel that separation since they are taken before forming a bond.

  • If the chimp gets enough to be happy and healthy as a pet then not getting exactly what they would in the wild doesn't matter. Wild hamster have miles of territory they roam. No hamsters are kept in cages that large but they still have enough to be happy as pets anyway.

  • Chimps have the intelligence of a 4-5 yr old child. A hamster may find amusement in running around in a wheel for hours keeping primates stimulated in captive environments is a difficult task. The chimpanzees I worked with had others to interact with but they still required tons of stimulation. Unless you are going to have your chimpanzee with you 24/7 that includes when you are sleeping, showering and eating and haveit interacting with other chimps you are not providing adequate stimulation.

  • The fact that you are comparing a hamster to a chimpanzee, to me, says something.

  • Then pick some other primate, seems you are stuck on chimpanzees. A tent on St. Croix? That is funny, they are like the ones on St Johns. Should of just chatered a boat. Now give me a legitimate reason for having children and why you aren't trying to stop that, since all the evidence of child abuse, pedophiles, starvation, disease...and they are likely to grow up and shoot someone, Hey, why are you trying to tell responsible owners what to do? Do you do the same when you fly, poor pilots.

  • Thanks for your concern but I have wokred with other primates. Your comments were ridiculous but it is understandable when your are defending something equally ridiculous.

  • Way to dodge the point! You are basically saying there are other abusive situations out there so ignore the abuse that I contribute to.

  • I explain, you don't believe that responsible exotic animal owners exist, that all whom own such animals are animal abusers. Hence you judge those whom you know nothing about). Yet, I see that you support those who purchase and breed exotics, then ask others to pay for the upkeep, and try to ban those who do pay for it themselves.

  • Stay with me, since children are abused, attacked by pedophiles, grow up and kill, there is no such thing as a good parent. Hence we should ban having children. This is your line of reasoning.

Open your eyes, look, observe and do your OWN research...because a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Otherwise, you are just an oxygen thief.

  • Now reverse that- you are saying "some do so we all do". Your idea of abuse is simply being in captivity- the majority of the US is a pet OWNING population so if you didn't baffle with bs you wouldn't have the money going to the big AR orgs in the form of donations 'helping' all the poor animals get legislated out of existence. I don't contribute to abuse- you contribute to lack of reason an dlogical thought added to control issues. I don't have the same religion as you so you try to FORCE it.

  • It shows I don't value one species over another just because they get better PR

  • Difficult but not impossible. You indicate you worked with chimps apparently not wild ones so kept by someone, some individuals could afford to do the same too without being a big business zoo. The point of comparing the two species is it doesn't have to be exactly what they get in the wild to be be happy. Yes it will be different levels of care but that does not make it impossible.

  • The message has to get out there somehow....

  • Thanks for noticing. See your are a fan of the very beautiful Rexano... me too! She can "own" me any time..

  • Uhhh...and AR groups post the same lies over and over again... you should thank REXANO for putting the time into help ensure YOUR rights and the genuine wellfare of animals!
