  • Nothing short of amazing!!!

  • JM always compelling to watch, even when he's re-stiringing his Martin D28.

  • What a performance. To have a BEing like John pen a tune with such powerful lyrics for a friend struggling with life; as John himself did in his lost love; Your heart wraps around each note + the pain is felt with each note + word. Thanks for my UK Angel that shared this link + to the poster; Bless you too. Magnificent. THE guitar string snapping+ John's masterful restringing it soooo skillfully--> something I am so glad happened; because that was an orgasmic-experience all its own.:-))) YEP.;)

  • pure magic from 3 24 onwards.....

  • 'I know you. I love you. I will be your friend. I will follow you anywhere. Even through solid air.'

This performance moved me to tears. Absolutely amazing.

  • Class

  • something beautiful and life affirming about this.

  • He's really great!!

  • John is big and funny

  • beautiful! Greetings Inge

  • R.I.P John And Nick

  • The one and only John Martyn, incredible stuff.

  • Just a great performance by a great singer songwriter. Love it xx

  • stunning.... what a legendary performer and larger than life personality... love you john, RIP!

  • 0 dislikes. Due to John being drunk

  • Mesmerising!

  • I loved this sooooooo much , when i was a child -- till today.....

  • And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what you call a performer!

  • Yes.

    The tuning is CGD#E#G#C

    : )

  • However on this John seems to be a bit drunk and is only playing what is relative to his ears, it is all still good though. The version in the video is actually in the key of Bb but this could be due to john being dunk, the album version is actually C G Eb F Bb D as i stated before. The open chord that the guitar is tuned to is an Cm9th chord I believe, thanks and peace.

    Mark

  • tuning is C G Eb F Bb D

  • always the fuckin' fourth...

  • why has this video only got 16,000 veiws!

  • @kristopful It's about Nick Drake, isn't it?

  • @7074LLy it is aye

  • One of my Alltimers!

    Thank you for that video!

  • great video, such a good performer, great stage presence! wickid version of solid air too

  • Fukin funny.. John makes you laugh, then he makes you cry....

I miss the big guy. Peace John. Be with you for that big gig in the sky soon. Get me a round in.

  • Incredible stuff from the the Big Man. Anyone have any ideas of what "Solid Air" means.? I've allways thought it referanced to a friend who smoked too much "Resin" solid block, marajuana....and had a mental breakdown. Solid's was the stuff we smoked in this era.

  • What a masterclass in slickness deluxe....

  • Miss you Big Stuff.

  • 0:20 ''OMG, that was beautiful!''

  • smashingly beautiful

  • He wrote this for Nick Drake

  • Anybody whose been there will understand this song reaching into a soul & take comfort........

  • This is TRULY a MINDBLOWING VERSION! HELLO!

  • a God Like Genius who others will for ever be compared to.

    God Bless you John!

  • Sensational performance which includes the highly amusing broken string malarkey....

  • D A F G C E. Although his guitar is actually tuned overall much lower in this clip which actually makes it easier to sing. I usually use a capo to bring the pitch up and just sing in the lower register...it's either that or down tune like hell (listen to his bottom string!)

  • The tuning in this particular performance is A#, F, C#, D#, G#, C but the record is a semitone higher in B, F#, D, E, A, C#. It'll still sound out to the recording just because of the tape speed I imagine. Nutty tuning but what a sound, what a chord!

  • Are those fake nails? Anyone know if he glued 'em on?

  • Just so good to see again. JM was such good fun.

  • ive made myself cold from constant shivers in my spine

  • Brother John :-))))))))

  • yeah it's DAFGCE

  • its a really crazy showman ...solid air cover the Luca Prodan

  • zzzzzzzzolid air

  • @aarandunn Spot on my man.

  • Such a legend. His legacy will live on. R.I.P Mr.Martyn

  • Anybody catch the tuning?

  • @TomGilroy think its CGEbFBbD thats the way i play it anyway

  • @TomGilroy DAFGCE

  • @TomGilroy A11

  • @TomGilroy Yeah just worked it out there, its Bb,F,Db,Eb,Ab,C.. Great song!

  • i saw him live a year before he died rip man

  • guitar sounds like a tissue box with elastic bands round it BUT the second he plays.... it's happening, amazing!

check out my favorite part of this gig on my profile, another amazing john martyn moment!

  • amazing video....... thanks... it's great to see this

  • Classic, classic,.....this captures the JMartyn solo concert atmosphere with 'the' classic JM song to my mind. ..and the *sound* he got out of a guitar together with *that* voice...almost unbelievable if I hadnt seen it again..
