I love how everyone loves the music from this advert, it actually made me stop what I was doing and watch the advert! You chose well, Thomson Holidays!!
@iluvshanedawson170 Where is my mind. It was originally a guitar piece by the pixies, then Maxence Cyrin did a piano adaptation, this was an edited version of Cyrin's cover. Also there is another piano cover with lyrics by Sunday Girl. Hope it helped ;) x
The purpose of this advert is just reminding u that u should relax an spend time with your family, as they say not enough hours, not enought days. I love this advert, just reminds me of how lucky nd fortunate I am to have the people around me an have found time in past to go on holiday with them :) try not to moan about the pettiest things people. Just be greatful of how lucky we are in life :)
Probably one of the best holiday adverts ever. True advertising genius. Really thoughtful words and an emotive piano riff. Absolutely brilliant advert.
Finally!!! I found out what the song is! Saw the ad on the TV but forgot what the advert was about. Managed to work out some of the song by ear and then BOOM. I saw the advert again. Great choice of music Thomson!
This ad really bugs me. Since when do kids have a concept of 'time' and making sure you need to 'make time for the ones you love'. Kids don't care! They just do what feels right, that's why they're kids!!
Every time I see this advert, my eyes fill up because no matter how many times I go on holiday, I'll never have as good a time abroad as the families on this video. It's beautiful and heart-breaking to watch
This advert has been produced very well. Thompson really have done their research and segmented the market just right and aimed it in the best possible way at the family market. This advert stirs up the want to be around your loved ones and evolve the relationships you have with them.
if this doesnt make you reflect on all the time lost to your family and friends what will? Beautiful advert and has made me book a holiday with Thomson for next week. Advert must have worked.
They are trying to sell u a holiday as thats whats their buiseneess is based on, but they are also trying to state thats its important to just forget everything an spend time with your family. As thats the most important thing in anyones life (i love this advert, i always stop what am doing when i see it) just remember dont ever take your family for granted. Be grateful for what u have.
this advert is a travesty to possibly one of the greatest songs of the 80s, horrible horrible horrible, wy cant advertising agencies leave good songs alone and not ruin them
What a wonderfully honest and poignant ad,no silly gimmicks,no thrusting big logos in our faces, just pure truths on life and the first time I saw it I just nodded my head with a tear in my eye in agreement with what the boy was saying on how holidays are such special times that you shouldnt waste away.Gets to the old heart strings everytime, thank you Thomson :')
I did work experience for the advertisement agency who created this advert (BMB) and it was a truly brilliant experience. The guys behind this advert are great!
Great advert & very inspiring. It's all about having great quality time with your love ones. Buying stuff for them does not scratch the surface of happiness. We cut down on buying stuff for each other to instead have fun moments with each other. Thanks Thomas for a wonderful advert.
Truly a moving advert! It makes the viewer think about memories with loved ones, about the memories which could be made with the opportunity of a holiday; and makes you think about how little time you spend on yourself, assuming that you have a busy schedule. It hits the nail of modern life right on the head.
This advert puts a lump in my throat everytime it comes on. It reminds me of happy times spent with loved ones who have now departed. In our busy lives we don't always get the chance to appreciate each other It is such a shame that we need to have a holiday to have the time to do that, spend a full day with our loved ones, appreciate the beauty of our world. Cherish your loved ones everyday, you never know how long they will be around.
people think it's coldplay because it has similar chords to fix you. :P and it may have originally been the pixies (i have no idea, there are many versions) but this version is actually sunday girl - where is my mind. i much prefer that one, the piano is just gorgeous!
Probably my favourite advert from 2011. -Isn't it interesting how the same song (be it a different arrangement, the melody is the same) also featured on the final shot of 'Fight Club'. The Pixies managed to produce a song that is both melancholic and hopeful, it pierces the soul. This song has the ability to bring anything from the mundane to profundity.
There's over 60,000 people who were wondering the same thing. Whether or not this music was actually a 'cover' of The Pixies (or at least even Placebo) for some. The words on the advert, the more you listen make it even more remarkable. I hold my hand out to whichever worker for Thompson's put this together.
Everytime i see this advert I just get depressed about the amount of time I've wasted in England without family. And may I add, what the hell is that little girl doing at 1:18 ?
The most powerful commercial I have ever seen. If this doesn't touch you, you're untouchable. (Music is the Pixies classic, "Where is My Mind", played by Guy Farley.)
Would have been nice if they had shot it somewhere sunny!? Grade also makes it look cold (and is all over the place). I just don't understand, it could have been brilliant!
1.06 Looks like some thriller where they fall off a boat and are stuck int he cold ocean for days.
this video makes you realise how prescious the people u love are and that when u with the people who mean everything 2 you, u should cherish that moment x
The song sounds like a mixture of "Where is my mind" by the pixies and "Fix you" by coldplay :D pretty amazing cover :) That song always remind me of Fight Club :D
It sounds like coldplay because they're using a piano to recreate the vocals as well as the lead riff from where is my mind. I was pleasantly surprised when the advert came on. Not my favorite pixies song but i guess wave of mutilation probably wouldn't be a great choice for selling beach holidays :P
This song is covered by Lotte Mullan, lovely song :). Also covered by 'Yeah yeah yeahs' , 'Placebo' and sang by 'The pixies'. It's in my sleep playlist :)
I usually despise the advertising industry and all its works, but this a genuinely moving, poignant piece full of humanity. I'd say it even over-achieves its aim, and leaves me feeling very sad about all the time wasted in my life when I can't be on holiday. This advert reflects a great degree of class and dignity on the part of everyone involved in it, and on the Thomson brand. Well done.
@ghostofcastlereagh i dissagree i think it is attepmting to sell something that should not be sold this is comercialisim at it's peak selling you happieness through a product happieness can't be bought but it would appear that thompson like many others are trying to sell it makes me sad
@ghostofcastlereagh indeed, time wasted being a slave to society; doing a 9-5 routine job for the better half of your life. we should all be free to truly live our lives.
time!!, so much to answer for, not enough hours in the day, not enough days in the week, everyone wants a little peice of you, time u stopped switched off, forgot bout time, put down the fone andheld you loved ones hand. nice ist it, those close to you, share with them a week or 2 an they will cherish it forever, the time u spend on holiday, the time when nothing matters. when there just you the sky, the sea and the people who mean everything in the world to you.
I love the subtle strings in the background, gives it another layer than bland piano keys of Maxence Cyrin plus that version is sooo dark and depressing but Guy's version is more lullaby-like. Can't wait for it to come out! if it ever comes out!
its just a cover of wheres my mind by pixies Guy Farley. produced this. I got a midi file of this and when you put certain instruments on it u can hear fix you so im guessing that coldplay borrowed the riff
@daystilljersey it's actually Guy Farley's orchestral cover of the Pixies =P but definitely not coldplay! You can listen to it here: youtube.com/watch?v=n874BFyyn5g
People have commented saying that the boy in the advert is a great actor and will go far.. Where Is My Mind by The Pixies. This piano version has been done by Guy Farley just for this ad. It's not for official sale at this time, let's hope in the near future it will be. You can Listen to a clean version here.
As others have said, the song in the background is The Pixies' Where Is My Mind. I think this piano instrumental version is Maxence Cyrin's arrangement; It's beautiful I know :')

Where Is My Mind by The Pixies. This piano version has been done by Guy Farley just for this ad. It's not for official sale at this time, let's hope in the near future it will be. You can Listen to a clean version here.

Its not the Maxence Cyrin version, which IMO is better than this version.

Parts of the song sound like coldplays fix you, whilst others sound like where is my mind by the pixies but I'm not convinced its either of those :/

As others have said, the song in the background is The Pixies' Where Is My Mind. I think this piano instrumental version is Maxence Cyrin's arrangement; It's beautiful I know :')
