@watso64 In almost two years and 55,000 miles I've had it, the only bit of real work that was done to it was replacing the front shocks, and replacing the rear brake calipers because they were sticking and dragging on the rotors. Everything else is just maintenance. Replaced the spark plugs, both differentials and transfer case oil changed, transmission fluid changed too. Motor gets nothing but Amsoil SS 0w30 100% synthetic oil.
@joshnc101 To add to my post... I'm getting new front brake pads in a couple days, and sometime soon I'll need to replace all the control arm bushings cause the factory rubber ones are about to rot away. I don't expect anything to go wrong with it later down the road, except maybe small stuff which is to be expected of any vehicle that gets a lot of miles.
@Opdahl101, same here, got mine in 04 with the 4.7L and its fun to wipe those smiles off of the person next to you when you blow their doors off... with a truck. first day i drove it my mom told me she heard the truck a block away.
hey i've been looking into buying a dakota and was wondering a few things about #1 what gas mileage do you get? #2 is it pretty reliable? #3 would you recommend it? (i'm 16 and am wondering if it would make a nice first vehicle) just wondering thanx!
At the moment (this time of the year with my summer job) I'm getting 17-18mpg average with ALLOT of highway driving. During winter I'v been getting around 15mpg and sometimes as low as 14mpg, this is with alot more city driving. I've put 35,000 miles on it since I got it last year in June, and so far I havent had a single issue. My brother on the other hand has the same exact truck I have even an 04 year model with only 40k miles and he's had a few tiny problems...
One persisting problem he has with it now is the steering pump reservior leaking steering fluid. Would I recomment it? If its what you want, go for it! I couldn't have bought at a worser time last year when gas was $4/gallon, but I dont regret anymore now that gas is where it should be. What I like best about it, is its size, its not too big and not too small, rear seats have plenty of room for a midsize truck, and the v8 is a plus! As you see here its decently quick, and it drives good.
I got to disagree, I got a 2004 4.7L V8 dakota when I was 16, and that thing rips... Yeah there aren't that many aftermarket parts but it makes a really nice truck.
@somanymods i guess that depend on your mods mine stock devoured an RX8. it was funny he tried so hard but gained no ground. those ricers are worthless. you have to put so much money into em to make em acceptable. then they dont go anywhere in the snow.
0-60 on these trucks loaded out like mine is usually 8 to 8.5 seconds. Not made for speed obviously but its quick enough to get out into traffic pretty well. Now if I was to swap in a 345hp Hemi v8, then it would haul ass pretty good.
the automatic really slows them down

@jayguy173 sure they do.

Acceleration appears pretty decent considering its a big truck with only 230 HP. Have you had any issues with your vehicle?

what is the horsepower on the 4.7? My '01 Dakota has a 3.9 V6 and is only one and a half seconds slower than this.
TARDISvision 2 years ago
230hp, and just under 300 lb/ft of torque. Its a heavy quad cab 4x4
joshnc101 2 years ago
alright, makes sense then. Mine has 180hp, not sure on the torque. plus it's a 2wd club cab.

You should put a k&n cold air intake in it, I put one on my 2001 Grand Cherokee and it makes the biggest difference

sgsauer225 2 years ago

somanymods 2 years ago
was it a 4 door?
sgsauer225 2 years ago
it was an extended cab sport 4x4 automatic with 3.92 gears or w/e
somanymods 2 years ago
Ok, just wondering.
sgsauer225 2 years ago
Was this city driving? or everything?
I'm not trying to be a prick, just trying to get all the input I can.
I know a guy who has a extended cab sport W/V8 and he says he gets 17 city.
sgsauer225 2 years ago
yeah city...i was hard on it too, i bet u would do better with the 4.7 V8, just avoid the 3.9 its awful...or get a good truck like a tacoma :)...lol

rx8's are slow..i saw a lightly modded 140hp sentra se-r walk away from one on the highway
somanymods 2 years ago
@somanymods should of had a V8, thud at least the fuel economy would of made sense+ it would have sounded good and been reasonably fast.
