I agree. I've been loving Dexter, but I think the show is reaching a natural ending. I couldn't imagine Dexter going int a 6th or 7th season. Maybe a spin off show, "Miami Homicide"

I understand that but youngness doesn't mean anything. I know people who still remember when they were very young and plus, traumatic experiences tend to be remembered.
As for seeing someone being cut into pieces being worse... Does that mean it isn't as traumatic to find someone close to you not moving or responding to you? Crying for hours in their blood until your Dad comes to rescue you? The scars may be gentler but they'll still be there.
I'm just saying it's not a given that Harrison will turn out like Dexter, because Dexters ordeal WAS worse than Harrisons.
I'm not saying Harrisons ordeal wasn't traumatic, just not AS traumatic as Dexters.
Not all trauma is equal in severity, plus you have to guage the comprehension of the person being traumatized.
Circumcision , for example, is a very traumatic experience for a youngster, more so than having someone not respond to them, yet how many people remember being circumcised?
What is with people saying that Rita's death is not as scarring as Dexter's experience? It is... Dexter didn't care about the other people, just his mother at the time. His mother being murdered and being found crying in her blood was the same sort of scar. It may have been gentler but it still is watching your mother die in a brutal way.
Also, the people on showtime would be stupid to end this show this season or next season because the fans would protest.
@Greycat85 i guess what the other people were saying is that harrison is very very young. Dexter was 4 years old and was left in that truck covered in blood for days....and seeing someone being cut into pieces i think is worse.....
It doesn't matter if Dexter cared about the other people who were chainsawed or not, watching someone you don't know being hacked up is still very traumatizing.
Harrison doesn't have the comprehension to understand what was going on, and probably doesn't even know what blood is yet (we're not born knowing this stuff), where-as Dexter was 3 or 4 at the time of his experience, so he DID understand what was going on.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Dexters bio-dad at all.
Dexter Seaon 1, Episode 9, "Father Knows Best", (from IMDB) Dexter learns that his biological father (named Joe Driscoll), whom he was told had died 30 years ago, has just recently died and left him everything he owned, including his house. He goes on a trip to pack the items in the house, along with Rita.
I completely forgot about that.... you're right, and it was proven to be his dad because Dexter (with a very rare blood type) needed blood earlier, and Harry mysteriously found a doner which was Joe...
I LOVE DEXTER ......and love the ending but i think if wasn't trenty who killed rita it'll be INTERESTING though i didn't know it was trenty only when i red an article about dexter final season 4..
When I saw the ending I was really shocked, I've always liked Rita and the way she keeps Dexter a little bit more sane and I thought it was a huge thing when Dexter realised that he really did have real feelings when it came to her and their family... plus I got real sad thinking of Astor and Cody, and Harrison ofcourse, but Astor and Cody lost their mother and their fathers gone

I think it would be cool to see that the Trinity Killer was not the actual killer in the final scene. It would be interesting to see another serial killer know Dexter's identity. Harrison is Dexter's son. I don't know what will happen to Cody and Astor. I wonder if you will see the reappearance of Rita's mother from season 2 played by Jobeth Williams ( mom on Poltergeist). Dexter's sister or Michael C. Hall's real wife (Jennifer Carpenter) is smoking hot.
Trinity did, in a way, mention that he killed Rita. He did not say it directly, but the whole conversation about being good for his family, and having his curse hurt them. Trinity says that everything was already done and there was nothing that could be done. That to me said something. Didnt think it would be Rita, but if you pay attention to the scene where Trinity is killed, he is definetly hinting at something he had done to Dexter's (or something Dexter had done to his own fam, your choice)

When trinity arrived he found that wasnt dexter's apartment and probably he read in debra's notebook bout L Moser and sons,i think that's the reason he recrated the scene at the end.

I wasn't reffering to the brutality Rita experienced, that has nothing to do with my comment... My point was that because of the age of Harrison, and the scene not being close to the brutality that Dexter experienced, it's not a given that Harrison will grow up to be like Dexter.
From the witnesses perspective, watching someone slowly bleed out in a tub isn't as brutal as watching someone beg for their life before being chainsawed.

well GuerreBrigadier, we dont know that Harrison will grow up like Dexter did for a fact. Dexter was bigger than Harrison when his mom was murdered in front of him, so what he saw stayed with him, but Harrison is just an infant. plus i dont believe that Dexter would want his son to have to deal with the kind of darkness he does. but we'll see what'll happen next season. i just hope the show will continue to be as good as always.

Uhh yea, but that is just cliched literature. We can take themes from anything and compare them to Dexter. It's funny because I was thinking about that too last night. Harry is the Obi Wan mentor character that dies. I'm thinking Quinn is the bad character who redeems himself like Han.
Dexter finding his son in blood could have just been a very sad coincidence. Coincidences happen in tv and movies to help make the story more intriguing and to add new and interesting stuff.
think of it this way if dexter didn't find his son in rita's blood it wouldn't be a very good full circle ending.

don't get me wrong it was very tragic. But think about the show. This is great for future seasons do to more character development. This means more awesome seasons will be around the corner. I am really optimistic for the future of this series.
think of this season as the "empire strikes back" of the season. In that movie the dark side technically won. It was also the best movie of all star wars movies. I just hope they don't "return of the jedi" us with season 5!

I wasn't reffering to the brutality Rita experienced, that has nothing to do with my comment... My point was that because of the age of Harrison, and the scene not being close to the brutality that Dexter experienced, it's not a given that Harrison will grow up to be like Dexter.
From the witnesses perspective, watching someone slowly bleed out in a tub isn't as brutal as watching someone beg for their life before being chainsawed.

To this Phillips said, "The story evolved and it kind of became inevitable. We knew that we had to do more than kill Trinity. It's a little bit of a corner that we paint ourselves into. Last year we tried to avoid that and actually I think we didn't do as well as we could have." Clyde added that they had to raise the bar as Trinity's death would be inevitable.

On the Sunday, December 13 finale, Rita was supposed to hop on a cab and head to romantic gateway when she forgot her ID. She ended up being murdered in the bathtub by Trinity while baby Harrison was left crying in her pool of blood. This image mirrors Dexter's traumatic childhood when he watched his mother died before him and was soaked in her blood.

well GuerreBrigadier, we dont know that Harrison will grow up like Dexter did for a fact. Dexter was bigger than Harrison when his mom was murdered in front of him, so what he saw stayed with him, but Harrison is just an infant. plus i dont believe that Dexter would want his son to have to deal with the kind of darkness he does. but we'll see what'll happen next season. i just hope the show will continue to be as good as always.

Dexter finding his son in blood could have just been a very sad coincidence. Coincidences happen in tv and movies to help make the story more intriguing and to add new and interesting stuff.
think of it this way if dexter didn't find his son in rita's blood it wouldn't be a very good full circle ending.

don't get me wrong it was very tragic. But think about the show. This is great for future seasons do to more character development. This means more awesome seasons will be around the corner. I am really optimistic for the future of this series.
think of this season as the "empire strikes back" of the season. In that movie the dark side technically won. It was also the best movie of all star wars movies. I just hope they don't "return of the jedi" us with season 5!
