It takes months of planning hours to roll the shuttle out to the launch pad and yet it only takes 8 minutes to get into space.

a space shuttle always launches with PAYLOAD in it's
CARGO BAY.ANYWAY WHAT WAS CHALLENGER CARRYING ON HIS
FINAL MISSION.WAS IT DESTROYED AS WELL?
DID THEY NEED TO MAKE A NEW ONE?

were behind you discovery!
discovery is my favorite orbiter.
i don't want him to turn into debris
and that's for all the other orbiters and any spacecraft!r.i.p
Discovery is scheduled to deliver the ISS Columbus Orbiting Facility in October 2007, and to do the final Hubble servicing mission in 2008, so its got some important work in store.

Why haven't they made the distance between the hangar and the launch pad shorter??

The shuttle can be launched from either pad 39A or 39B and each pad has a safety perimeter - it does seem a long way though !
i like pad 39B THE BEST!
it's launched the MOST shuttle missions
i like PAD 39A TOO!
IT has NOT been used since 2003 COLUMBIA BREAK UP!
DISCOVERY WILL USE THE PAD 39A IN 2007 OR 2008
FOR HIS NEXT MISSIONS
Becuase they need distance between them if something maight explode!
