  • m-aidio venom, novation ultranova, Korg r3, or korg microstation. really hard choice

  • Newb question: Can this also be used as a midikeyboard to control various VST's? :-)

  • @bjarkof Yes!

  • well... to me analogue modular is where its at ;)

  • I have a yamaha mox synthesizer and i like the 70s,80s sounds too much do you think that analog synthesizer better from digital?

  • he's jizzing about it, but not showing anything.

  • BLA BLA BLA, Let me test it and listen for myself ....

  • lol he says NOOB hahaha lol i only hear that tipe of things in online videogames :P

  • why would anyone buy a synth made after 1996?

  • Mark Mothersbaugh? I'm sold.

  • can somebody tell me if i could use the mic input with vocoder software? thanks

  • Cool, so I can buy this and suck like The Crystal Method?

  • @Broyale26 i wish i could suck like The Crystal Methods album, Vegas.

so i can be a Busy Child

  • @Broyale26 prick

  • @OfficialWiredUP

Calm your ovaries and try to think up a better response to my comment.

  • @Broyale26 yeh becuase u clearly have no talent of ur own and purely rely on the thing ur using. u never heard that its the artist and not the equipment which makes something good.

  • @kroser1983

Assumptions are like assholes, they're full of shit. Much like your fail comment.

  • Im In Love <3

  • If I had the money I would by this and the Nord Wave in a flash.

  • WHAT IS BETTER AXIOM PRO OR VENOM ?

  • @BatoTV Axiom is not a synthesizer noob. Axiom is a midi keyboard. Midi keyboards cant create sounds.

  • @trancerslife you fucking retard venom is both midi and an analog synthesizer so don't start making fun of other people about shit you don't know.

  • @NickRianFurnia its a virtual analog synth.

  • @NickRianFurnia Its not analog, its digital...

  • Comment removed

  • @trancerslife sure they can, if you hit it hard enough, you get a nice gritty kick sound. Try it.

  • @BatoTV axiom pro is a midi controller dude... it also acts as a control surface. i have the 49. its a control surface as most.... not s synth... i think i want this synth tho... i use my axiom with omnisphere and its pretty rad. ive kinda customized it to be a synth, but im just a gear slut... u know.....

  • HELP how do i import the patches I downloaded to my synth i'm a lost noob :(

  • SICK

  • doom705 lives in a bucket I live in a hut who lives under the bridge.. I like the Venom but have been able to do the same with what I have and the 100 vsts and what I use is an analog. I would like to own The Venom none the less because the engineering behind the board. The cheapest I have seen this board go for was 299 dollars that was a deal considering the 800 dollar price I have seen.. I like boards so I will like this one. But will not pay 800 bucks nada

  • This vs roland gaia sh - 01 ??

  • @twoodyatwood this and the gaia vs any analog synth? no contest the 100% analog synths wins over any digital V/A synth. The only V/A synth i've ever heard that came close to the real thing was the Nord Lead 2x.

  • sounds like a toy. give my analog any day. my Moog prodigy sounds 10X better >_<

  • @doom705 I live in a giant bucket

  • Try one yourself for a month or so, I think you'll be surprised at how fun it really is.

I have this old Ensoniq ESQ-1. When i first heard one--I thought they sucked. Presets were horrible. Many years later, I bought one second hand for $150 to see what I could do with the curtis analog filters and those nasty 8 bit waves--and wow--it blew my mind .I just had to dig into it myself.

Such is the case with the Venom. After almost a year of programming patches on it -I think it's a winner.

  • woo just got this a couple of days ago, and I'm already engaged to it. Girls are gay, synths give me a boner! :D

  • How would you say this synth would fair in the dubstep genre? The exiting music makes it seem like it would work well but im not sure...

  • "my favorite synthsizer with in the last 10 years. without a doubt"

...fucking liar. absolute bullshit. this is an entry level va synth that actually uses sampled waveforms rather then model them, so it's only a quasi-va synth. and it doesn't compare, not even close, not by a mile, to something like the access virus (pick a model). I fucking hate liars.

  • @evilsnakes1 You could be right, but keep in mind that an access virus costs almost 5 times as much as the venom.

  • @leojunior903

...understood. price is always a consideration...except when a working professional states something like "this is my favorite synth within the last 10 years". MAYBE if they quantified that statement with a "under $500 category" it would be fair, but otherwise hell no. while i know it can achieve some complex sounds, just the fact that it uses sampled waveforms alone has got to knock it out of contention...and with sampled waveforms, why the fuck is it only 12 voice poly?

  • @evilsnakes1 yes, agreed. i guess he just ommited the "under 500$ category" for the sake of marketing the synth.

  • @evilsnakes1

I have one--and it really is inspiring. 12 voice polyphony is never a problem with a good DAW. A monophonic Moog Voyager (which I have) is $3k. I love it too, but the Venom really does have a signature all it's own-and the sampled waveforms have a lot to do with that, and in my opinion it sounds awesome. To be fair, If a synth is inspiring to you--regardless of the price--that's what really counts, isn't it?

  • @rudiedisone

...a good daw never fully compensates for lack of polyphony, it just provides work arounds, forcing you to commit audio "to tape" earlier than you would like to. And this a a multi-timbral synth (supposedly) so 12 voice poly simply does not cut it. Sound good or not (i'm sure it does), this is effectively a rompler, not a va, and sample playback takes way less cpu cycles than true va emulation. It's almost like they lowered the poly to trick us into believing this is true va.

  • 2...

In the end, it's a matter of whether it sounds good or not, and with samples of classic synths I'm sure it does sound good, but in the end it's a rompler more than a va and i'm pissed that they fail to address this matter up front. As for the samples, did they cover the lows adequately? Do the highs alias like crap? You never know what you are getting with a rompler.

People are hard on this "synth", and m-audio in general, whereas I've always like m-audio gear, but this is a little much.

  • 3...

What's better at this price range? Well, if the Venom had decent polyphony and so was truly mutli-timbral instead of being crippled, I'd say nothing. But because of the polyphony I have to treat it effectively as a mono-timbral synth, and as that, the novation ultranova, for example, absolutely kills this.

  • 4...

...having said all that, i'd love to have a venom :)

  • these are only $600!

  • @900GTi try $450

  • Is this compatible with Ableton Live?

  • As much as i've heard good review about this synth sound, it's freaking ugly. That's the one that puts me off it.

  • Last chance to buy my synth for half price before I sell it to Guitar Center this weekend!

M-Audio Venom Virtual Analog Synthesizer with built in HQ audio recording interface in MINT CONDITION. Only $375! LAST CHANCE!

    WILL SHIP!

    PLEASE INBOX ME ASAP!

  • yea, live gigs are on with this one!!!

  • the tune in the end is amazing

  • Does this synthesizer have some acoustic presets? Like classical piano? Or it's only for electronic music?

  • will it work with ablton?

  • What are some good speakers for the M-Audio Venom?

  • is this good for electro house/ deadmau5-ish music?=D

  • @zipproductionz ye bro its the best i heard!!! youll love it...

  • @pac0re also.. the moment i got it.. i released 10 tracks... true story

  • @pac0re awesome!:) but does it work to plug it in with fl studio?=)

  • only thing that pisses me off is that if i bought this, i gotta pay for pro tools separately. anyone know any package sets? cause thats bullshit.

  • Don't buy it, this is shit. I've bought one who doesn't work properly for no reason.

  • LMfao the guys in the beginning sound like tools. juss keep listenin to at 0:17 secs like 5 times these guys are lieing to u :p

  • @Kylemad01 you got one and if so is it gud

  • @doriantaylor66 no i dont have one. i was looking into this to buy for my studio and now i dont want one anymore lolz

  • @Kylemad01 y is that?

  • @TMAT09 thanks, I was split between this and the Roland Juno-G. Think Im rollin with the Juno if I cant find anyone to talk me out of it.... now to find the money XD

  • just omg

  • all i hear is... bla bla bla ... intuitive.. bla bla bla.... awesome bla bla bla

    and more bla...

  • noob question but can i use this thing as a MIDI controller to control sounds in fl studios using programs like MASSIVE and NEXUS? cause im really tired of using my mouse to make my beats.

  • @DARKNESSofD you might want to look at something like the "trigger finger" (made by m-audio), or the nanoKONTROL (made by KORG). those will be a lot cheaper and more suited to the task you specified.

  • dropping a whole bunch of names is fun. hearing a bit more of the board would be nice.

  • Is the software compatible with all pc's or mac only?

  • Something is suspicious about this demo...I mean, there's an Andromeda in the crysta method's studio, and they're talking about this VA synth like it's god. come on

  • @mattedj One reason is that Crystal Method has been trying to promote themselves through product advertising. There isn't much interest in their music as there was years ago. If it wasn't for all the advertising, Crystal Method would be a forgotten band. They are competing against many bands and DJs with more impressive results.

  • @mattedj

Absolutely agree with you, this thing is such a joke standing next to the great ANDROMEDA A6 and Minimoog.

Isn't it easier to find a used decent interface (like m-audio 1814 for example), get a controller and a good VST (lets say Waldorf Largo)? I wonder how many of these toys they are selling now...

  • @retrivox There's something about the portable VA synths that suck people in (including myself). It's that quest for the contained system or some artificial limitation(analyzing my own weakness for these things). But ultimately, the perfect interface for VST would be the best direction. I've thought about this for some time now. I think impOSCar 2 is onto something with the controller made specifically for it, but what if there was a way to make a perfectly adaptive USB interface for VST?!

  • They all do the same misstake: refusing to put in an analog filter that makes the sound more organic. I tried this synth but - as usual - it sounded hopelessly "plastic". Digital oscillators lack of random subharmonies so the sound is extremely plastic; one could remedy it by implementing analog filters.

  • DUBSTEP KEYBOARD FTW!!!

  • @Mawanyinnit I mean.... Is there much of a difference between the two words? They are indeed coming from a synth masters lips, who has absolutely whatever exciting synth he wants, which makes the claim all the more unbelievable. I just can't discern the difference between both descriptions

  • This isn't a MIDI controller is it?

  • I haven't been able to stop thinking of the crystal method saying " The most exciting synth to come out within the last ten years " This comment has really been bothering me. I mean.... really? M-Audio's 12 voice four part VA venom is more exciting than the Nord lead 3, Virus TI, Prophet 08, Jomox Sunsyn, Macbeth M5, and most notably the Buchla 200e? In a nutshell I believe the crystal method was paid a hardy chunk of change to say things that they truly don't believe, or so I would assume. : (

  • This sounds great, and keen pricing too. Was after a new Moog.. might have to audition this at a store soon. Could see this cropping up on a few Mooli remixes - this came a bit too late , as album is already done.

  • QUIT TOUCHING THOSE KNOBS AND PLAY IT....sheesh

This thing seems so awesome, especially since it can be a pro tools interface too, just that guy touching the knobs like that.........I can't take it.....

  • @DLebsock they are showing us the sounds, thats why the turn the knobs more than playing it, there are more videos of it, so take it easy

  • Man.... a 4 part synth for under 500 big ones is just amazing, and such approval from the crystal method is pretty impressive, but why did my chemical romance have to be included in this impressive interview? fortunately I am still very impressed, but can I justify the purchase.... hmmmm not really, but I probably will make up an excuse. hehe what's new

  • Does this Synth have a wobble bass patch?

  • No vision. No inspiration. No innovation. You got everything ass backwards m-audio, What a piece of junk. Sorry.

  • @djcondra its down to the musician essentially, if you rely wholy on the instrument to bring you all that you might want to consider something different, no offense.

  • @kroser1983 No offense taken, though my point was not that a good musician couldn't make good music with this synth, or that I need to "rely wholy on the instrument"... There are already lots of similar budget VAs on the market. This product brings nothing new or exciting. The reason I said they got everything ass backwards is because producers would be happier with a knobbed-out keyboard that syncs to a powerful VST, rather than a "performance" keyboard that needs to be edited on a computer.

  • @djcondra i guess u are right there, im very much into dubstep and this piece of equipment brings a lot of dirty gritty sounds which are good for me, not really a electrical type of musician so needing all those knobs aren't something that bother me to much as i would just set my sound before i record, live automation will only be used with dubstep which is easy enough on this. its down to the musician on what works best for them in the long run.

  • Q: Does it sound as good as a 1978 prophet 5?

  • Can you also get a normal piano sound lol ? I really want something I can use for like house and 8-bit stuff, but I also want a piano or organ sound. For classic stuff like the beatles, elton john, booker T, you know stuff like that. Anyone know?

  • Powerful (Dubstep) Machine, Thanx to the Creatorz!

  • OMG! DEVO!!! :DD

  • I love my VENOM baby. Come here it on my latest REMIX...

    REMIXMIAMILIVE!

  • can this be used as a midi keyboard as well to run other synth vsts when required?

  • Anyone played on one of these yet? I have a buddy that said it's shitloads of fun.

  • Is this good for rock/blues.

  • MOAR.

  • hey anyone know the song that starts playing at 5:12?

  • @schvetsov Its on the product page for this synth,

Most likely it was just demonstrating the bass's and LFO power this thing can do :D

  • Would this be able to do things like violin, cello, and all the orchestral stuff?

  • i think people get confuswed when they see a software editor, and think that this can now be a vst plugin. the access virus TI is the synth you want if you want that flexibility... in fact.. it is the synth you want fullstop. this will never hold a flame to virus.

    however, as midi and audio are transmitted by usb, this will still be a very flexibly controlled synth from your DAW. ableton will have it jumpin and screamin in a flash,{i imagine}

but no aftertouch, crappy m-audio build.no4me

  • I think this is the new direction. Great synths are going to rely on computer & software for customization to allow a lower price. This is the future. Project studios have become the main focal point of most major companies.

  • As a MIDI controller?

  • Can I use this with Logic pro 9?

  • what is that synth he said at 2:11? testoscilator?

  • What a joke. You need a PC for heavy editing? Lame, I could buy better softsynths for cheaper.

  • Can I plug my guitar into this, and use it as a effect "Pedal"?

  • MOMMMM IF I GET ALL A's CAN I HAVE THIS PLEAASSSEEE?????

  • @JamesPriceSucks My dad actually said if I get all 's I an go get one!!! The guys at guitar center ask me every day if its time xD

  • @dudemanguyperson42 Point proven...

  • Would this be good for hip hop?

  • @beatsbyfrank ofc

  • Comment removed

  • show me some good obx pads and I'm sold.

  • Just bought this. Installed. Realized that you cannot use the sounds from the software as a VST to record into the DAW. Packed it up and returned it all within 30minutes.

Btw, they do have a VST version coming out but you have to pay for it. That's right, more money for something that's suppose to be vitual synth.

I am so done with m-audio. And yes, if you want to know, they key-bed really suxs.

  • @tannazia """Realized that you cannot use the sounds from the software as a VST to record into the DAW. """

You DO understand what a standalone synth keyboard is, right?

Using one as a VST is not even remotely a standard feature...

  • @foljs Have a looksy at the Novation SuperNova. It's a hardware synth WITH VST. Which means whatever you change in the software get's routed to the device. I don't mind plugging in a synth to my inserts but it's a real pain remembering which patches I used and at what modulation. DAW's nowadays do not have 'bank selects' hence the need for software-controlled mapping. But thanks for enlightening me on something I already knew.

  • Comment removed

  • @rudiedisone Why did you remove your comment? This keyboard isn't what I needed which is why I 'took it back'. I ended up getting a midi controller because that's what my studio calls for. Ask any body who knows that M-Audio is very well known to make cheap hardware. The keybed that YOU think is great too me and perhaps others doesn't cut it. But yeah, one drop on stage and this thing is done.

  • I just bought one of these. It's really nice but the preset patches aren't what i was looking for so I guess I need to learn how to program it. :/

That and it's not built very well for stage use in my opinon, I need favorite buttons to quickly switch patches. Idk im a noob

  • MARK MOTHERSBAUGH!!!

  • No real piano or strings. If you want organics, then get the soft synth Omnisphere.

  • My friend has the Gaia and I have this one, "venom" and they both do what they're made for well. If you like ARP modifications, then the Gaia is for you, but if you want Trent Reznor, The Cure and Indie sounding noises, then the "venom" is the right choice.. I'm loving it, it's crazy for the price I'm telling you. Cheap build though, I'm gonna replace the knobs with my own..

  • what exactly is this device?? does it hav piano, strings , etc patches??

  • I picked one up and love the sounds.. They are truly amazing.. I can safely say that you won't be disapointed with the sounds at all. The only thing that obviously got cut with the pricetag is the way it's built. I can tell it will break on stage very easy, so get the pro-coverage if you buy one from GC.. I already have one of the knobs on the effects that is breaking.. Other than that, sickest sounds!

  • whats the dubstep song at the end???? I want itttttt!!!!

  • @schvetsov shazam says : LIM - On veut tous réussir .. xD

  • I wanna get one but it seems like they are just trying to capture the mainstream market for stuff like dub step and that grunge electro sound that's becoming popular in main stream.

  • I just hate programming a hardware synth from a computer. It kind of defeats the purpose of purchasing a hardware synth.

For the price I like the Roland Gaia much better because it is loaded with sliders and knobs for easy tweeking of the sounds.

  • @mattsynth I totally feel ya there, except I feel its nice to have a hybrid, you kinda get used to programming it, but hardware synths are still my <3

  • @mattsynth I agree completely. Of the current market, i'd have the Roland Gaia any day of the week. I'm using almost pure hardware for same reason - I'm not 1 for making music with a mouse in hand.

Still this is better than stuff like the Microkorg XL, which is retarded to program onboard, and atm even the software is unreliable due to Korgs lack of customer support.

But there are alot of "reduced knob-count" synths out there atm, where this is no worse than those. But Gaia is above and beyond.

  • i think it's very obvious that they've payed the people off and handed them a script. It's not something new or groundbreaking to my ears or eyes.

That beind said, i think it's good looking. It seems limited in onboard editing, but still better than many others in the same class, and the computer-integration looks top notch.

If all the sounds/music in this video comes from it (would kinda make sense), and isnt altered beyond its own capabilities, i would say it's worth a long look.

  • 'With its full sized keys..' so why doesn't this video show them using it!

  • Not sure about anything else, but judging by the video, it seems you play it by using both hands to twist the four upper left-hand knobs. My guess is the keys are actually redundant switches that control...you guessed it...the four upper left-hand knobs.

Bad video...gives you no idea what this unit can do.

    Except for them knobs...

  • if the price is affordable then yeah i would definitely get it (not right now, kinda tapped out from buying the ROland Juno-Di).

but i like what i see.

  • Gotta try it ASAP. Unlike Micron an Miniak, I wish the Venom does not output heavy aliasing using classic sync-sweeps and has a good FX DSP.

  • i will find out when it comes to my door tomorrow.

  • this seems to be a better buy then the axiom 49... once it's an audio board also right?!

  • The level of innovation, and the sound, doesn't sound any more advanced than stuff that was coming out in the late 90s. Has synth technology advancement found itself on a plateau?

  • @Snuffomatica it's an entry level keyboard. not a Buchla.

  • @reptilespantoso If you compare 'entry level' keyboards from the early 90s to those of a decade later, the advancement is greater than that between keyboards of the early 2000s to the ones coming out now.

Once digital modelling became widespread in the late 90s, asides from processing power and storage there ain't a hell of a lot to work with until something completely new comes along .

  • does it have any piano sounds???

  • Not enough knobs for me. I hope it sounds good.

  • This thing just blows my mind already. I cannot wait to plug into Vyzex and nerd out.

  • This sounds insane and has everything I need to record and perform with ease - Certainly is on my wish list! :D

  • can it also just play the regular grand paino?

  • looks sick

  • can you also use it as a keyboard?

  • it sounds cool but not enough hands on control

  • Just got mine and it is badass!!! 2 most agressive synths in my studio are now Studio Electronics ATC-1 and my new Venom! Sampled ocillators or not, Venom is fat as hell.

  • Holy crap. I am in love with this little thing.

  • Historical :P

  • 5:25 to the end. This thing is gonna beast at dubstep

  • Venom & Ultranova got em both ffffff it.

  • How would you incorporate something like this with ? lets say ,the MikoEC5 from sound labs?

  • i tried out the ultranova, its good but the difference is all in what you want to do with it. for sounds id go with this venom but for more editing and performance ultranova is the way to go.

  • this is gonna be a good synth for people who want a good synth for a cheap price. it doesnt look like itd be great for live performances with only four knobs but in the studio itd be great. Im considering....

  • @THEPHUNKMASTERE

While secretly thinking about the Ultranova.

  • Wait.. it's "unique," but we're gonna hear it "all over the radio?"

Guys.. and what is that LCD?

  • @ORUPRANKSTAZ custom lcd screen.

  • @IAmBound Totally

  • @IAmBound

A nasty one, at that. Give me TouchView or give me death!

  • @THEPHUNKMASTERE

    oh god

  • ..."great sounds"....According to whom..?

  • "my favourite synthesizer in the last 10 years without a doubt"

You can see their faces trying not to laugh...

  • I hope this thing has a lil' bit of weight to it, I'm tired of all these cheap feeling synths coming out. Other than that, I just ordered one!

  • I'm assuming you can INIT a patch. pretty obvious question but i haven't seen such a thing on this beast yet.

  • I wanted to check out the MIDI implementation chart. The Venom user guide is already available for download. To my surprise, the amount of mappable cc's is HUGE! I can use something like my old Ozonic to access 56 of Venom's parameters at once instead of 4 (there's more than 56 CCs available for Venom though) I can do that without using Vysex at all, and without buying anything else -which is pretty cool. Kinda like my old school Roland Alpha Juno and PG-300 combo. Tweak it all in real time.
