I was recently on a flight in a Dash 8 and I puked my guts out. I would guess the cause would be a combination of the vibrations, noise, turbulence and smell in the cabin. Don't think I will ever fly in one again...
The newest stretch version of the dash 8 is the Q400 flown by Porter Airlines from Toronto City Center airport on the downtown islands. They start the New York city route on March 31, 2008 with 7 return flights a day and 2 returns each on the weekend days. For an interactive look at the this Bombardier website plane go to Q400 DOT COM.
Try to fly dash 8 from Honnigsvåg Valan airport the runway is in the middle of two tall mountains the dash 8 has to give full throttle and start climbing stright up on the middle of the runway that`s an runway that only can be used by twin otter and dash 8. Next time you`re going to northcape fly dash 8
The Q 400 variant of the Dash 8 has 5000 HP engines. It powers down the runway- very impressive acceleration. Theese are still turbine engines - the only difference is that they have a propellar attached.
On 12 September 2007, Bombardier recommended all Q400s with over 10,000 landings to be grounded for inspection of their landing gear after two non-fatal accidents within 3 days involving the landing gear of a Q400 series aircraft. Both aircraft operated by Scandinavian Airlines, who were an early operator of the type.[6] This affects about 60 aircraft in total, out of a total of 140 Q400s in service.
In 2 months my daughter and I are going to Canada; I'm staying 3 weeks, she's staying 3 days, just go go shopping. We'll both take a Dash-8 from Edmonton to Seattle, I'll give her to her Mom and then I reboard and fly back to Edmonton. It's her first flight, so it's gotta be done together.
That an aircraft applies full throttle during it's take off, is'nt very unusual. It is actually very normal, and most of the commercial aircrafts does use full throttle, even if the runway is 2000 meters long.
DASH 8 is Boss

I'm sure the ATR aircraft are good planes, but they look like cows compared to the Dash8 series.

the Q400 has six propeller blades on each hub and is about the length of a 300 and half of a 100 put together

You really would rather fly on these than an RJ? You must not know much about aircraft.
romanrite 4 years ago
RJ's are total JUNK!!!
The 100/200's have GARBAGE flaps on them, the passanger doors are junk, and the new ones (700/900) have bleed leak detector problems all the time.
Dash 8 (at least the older 100/300 series) are twice the AC the RJ will ever be!
I hope Bombardier gets it right with the new C series.

RbkUrge 4 years ago
Not always true. They use 100% N1 only when they have to (heavy load / short runway). This saves fuel and wear & tear on the aircraft.

Ever been on a 400? I have with Tyrolean air lines.
