Nice game Fat & Mad. What is your rating and your opponents. I want to put this game in my database and your ratings make the record more complete. Keep up the good work and good chess to you and Kingscrusher.
Is it possible to have a disadvantage if you develop your pieces behind the pawns. One of the crucial advantage you pointed out is ability to gain space. Is there anything negative about that?
If you develop your pieces behind your pawns, then you must advance you pawns far enough up the board to give your minor pieces more scope of the board. Advancing your pawns often leaves holes/weaknesses in your position. Thus, developing your pieces in front of your pawns concedes space, but lessens structural vulnerability.
I play this opening a lot and have had a very similar game to this where black's bishop was pushed back. In the end Black ended up a bishop down vs 2 active bishops and some passed pawns.
After Black's King goes to h7 at 10:09, White has Rh8+ and Black must take the rook with Rd8xRh8. White has QxQd5 winning the queen for a rook. Of course, the line as played is winning as well. I just liked the Rh8+ forcing RxR.
regarding the first comment, the annotator states that black's only real pawn break is with ...e4. IMO, this is because black has misplaced his bishop on the b1-h7 diagonal. black can play the bishop to e6 rather than f5, and aim for ...d5. after...d5, i think black's opening problems are solved. he can open central files and use his lead in development. after all, his rooks are connected and white's are not. also, white doesn't have Ng5 to harass the e6 bishop, as his knight is not on f3.
Yes, and in fact that is what he played. However, even though he gets the bishop on b2, he is still the exchange down and my rook took all of his queenside pawns! sadly, the video is maximum length that youtube accept so i couldn't show the rest of the game.
seriously if you're just sitting in for kingcrusher.. please make your own channel once he comes back!! that commentary was awesome and contained many instructive insights that spoke to the intermediate fanbase more than your average chess commentary imho. do make more! and make a channel! (when kc comes back)
great analysis, you're right, he seemed more preoccupied about stopping your moves than making any substantial ones of his own(probably due to your expetise with the pawns). I think at 9.20 instead of moving his bishop out making an escape route for his king, he should simply have moved his king left one square , stopping the rook check.
Kf8 is the best move in that position! I had in mind the reply Bg2 - I was happy to play this and go for an endgame too. With the bishop on a7 my opponent is piece down until its released.
got in from the pub n accidentally gave you a thumbs down lol ignore that, meant to be a thumbs up. thanks again for the game look forward to more in the future.
Well black wins back a bishop after Rd2+ at the end of the video.

KC, at 6:21, after White's g4, couldn't Black have still have taken some wind out of the pawn storm with h5?

What about: 1. Rh8? Kxh8 and you just dropped a rook...

It would be Rh8??

Superb game. Re1 is a very good move and according to your commentary, seen in advance. I like the English myself. Thanks.

It took me a while to realise that Ne7 at 8:21 would fail to Qd4 :)
