Well... my selection was mainly made using a hard-design-gameplay criteria... oh my! even so.. it was amazingly hard to choose only 5.

1.- Alien Vendetta map 25 "Demonic hordes"

2.- Sunder map 8 "The pale monument"

3.- Plutonia 2 map 29 "Ticket to eternity"

4.- Alien Vendetta map 8 "Beast island"

5.- Doom 2: Hell on earth map 29 "The living end"

I cannot remember now whether it's Hell Revealed I or II... But that WAD's 29th level has still been being my one of the top levels in DooM, especially playing at Ultra-Violence.

@teorock91 I haven't gotten too far in either, so I'm not sure. Probably HR II because that had superior map design. It's had as hell either way! :P

Meh. I honestly didn't find Icon of Sin very good. Its just a big room with not much detail and a hella lot of monsters. Nice vid though :)

@MAZZEKAARTS I think its a good thing you stuck to IWADs mainly because its unfair to games like doom and doom2 for the fact that they didn't get to gradually get better of decades of time they had to come up with their own architecture unlike PWADs today like WOS or Alien Vendetta which have coasted of other PWADs accomplishments of detail and architecture. And as for the maps you chose I thought they were good except for Icon of sin as number 1. It should of been map 29 of plutonia (:

Some are rather bad, with terrible architecture, though this is probably due to dooms more abstract style. The one's with best architecture are probably level 14, level 17, level 22, level 25, level 26 and 27, and level 29.

Ok, now that I look back at this vid, I think I rushed it really badly! Take a look at Top 5 Doom Wads. It has music over the top but you can sometimes hear in-game sound.

Downtown is annoying IMO,

"Slayer" is O of destruction/Circle of death,

the other 3 were pretty cliche loved maps, but you should have specified Doom2, because if you love doom, you can't leave Phobos Anomaly out of a top 5, that map has everything fitting for the real "beginning" of hell.

Final Doom levels are not impossible. Just extremely difficult in a way that many would imagine are "impossible". There is one glitched level in one of the early Doom games. The pyramid level (I forget the name) that is technically impossible without cheats, or the bug fix. I mean really,(s'cuse me if I'm wrong) the blue key behind the red door, the red key behind the yellow door, and the yellow key glitched outta existence. :3 Always wondered why I was constantly roaming around in circles.

Sadly i cannot do a top 5 or top 10,i couldnt even do a top 100 like i played over 2500 maps in my entire lifetime of Doom.Blame the custom megawad =P

Hmm... Nice choices there. Icon of Sin is a bit bland for my tastes, anyway. And Downtown... I don't hold fond memories of it, but it's well designed. My top 5 would be:

1. The Inmost Dens (Doom2 Map14)

2. Sever the Wicked (Ultimate Doom E4M3)

3. Spawning Vats (PSX Doom Version, Map15)

4. Speed (Plutonia Map12)

5. Mount Pain (TNT Map27)

Don't remember "Perfect Hatred" too much. And I never really liked TNT too much, kept getting a bit lost. Cyberden, was great, but it was a bit repetitive for my liking. Hunted is SO annoying, I'm sure the designers had a good idea for it but I get lost in the maze! LOL! (Laugh out loud)

And Spirit World was right up there too!
