I'm almost positive it's a result of the French capturing and violently removing the two fingers from English soldiers that used the longbow ...I think the English mastered the weapon first thus at a distance the soldiers would "show" their two fingers as an act of defiance. ...from their it became fuck off.

@TooSlim73 You are right I think. The Two fingers up gesture was first recorded being used against french soldiers by English longbowmen. The English longbowmen were incredibly skilled and deadly and as such, the french would, when returning captured soldiers for whatever reason, return them without their bow drawing fingers. The gesture is one of defiance. It never meant, and still doesn't mean "Fuck off". It is just a gesture of defiance that is often used with a loud "FUCK OFF"
