Coming back, especially with an injury, is really hard. In fact, I think it's harder than getting to the level in the first place. You expect to be able to do the skills, and you're used to doing them, but the strength/flexibility isn't there. Give her time. If anyone can do it, she can. (Says ex-elite gymnast who has just started again after a long break.)
Are these the rountines that she will compete in London with because in the beam rountin I kinda miss the switch leap layout step out layout someone please answer?
@pandaxseal3 Of course nobody knows what she will compete in London, but I think that she will probably do that series. She likely was planning on doing it here before the fall.
@pandaxseal3 It is in her routine, she just fell on the leap so she didn't bother to add the connection, check her 2011 Visas Day 2 routine and see that she did it.
I hope she makes it to the 2012 Games! I think if anyone can do it she can. She's definitely special. So what if she fell a couple times at some Mexico meet? She still rocks! :)
i am SO glad to see the standing full again; she may have fallen on it but it it means she's on the way!! She fell 3 times on beam at the 2007 Worlds and she was still the Gold Medalist in 2008. She's on her wayyy! =D.
I am so excited she has her standing full back even if she didn't land it this time. I' m surprised to see that there are people who don't believe in her. People never underestimate an olympic champion, especcially when she is so talented! She will get it just right when it matters
She is still working on her comeback and she hasnt done this in a while so back off! She did the best she could and it has been 3 years since ahe has done gymnastics. She is working hard and we should appreciate that
@uzizoe04 Yes but it only adds .2 to her SV because the layout stepout and back pike aren't in her top 5 acrobatic elements. It only adds CV. Can't believe this would've been a 15.075 without the falls and if she didn't wobble on her switch split + loso + back pike!
Ok she fell twice, big deal!! This routine is sooo promising! the switch leap was a once off mistake and the full is back and will have time to improve - good job!!
@hugahippo13 hey Hi!!! =) this was aired like 2 weeks ago in Mexico, because this games where in Guadalajara, Mexico but i believed that was aired in other countries. Blessings!! =)
I agree with most everyone's comments on here. I don't think these falls that significant. At the 2007 worlds, she fell 3 different times on beam, but that didn't stop her from going to the Olympics (and doing very well) in '08. She's still improving, and think she still has a chance for 2012. I would love to see her there.
I think Shawn looks great. Yes she fell but she has demonstrated improvement and needs more time to compete these skills again. I am optomistic. Few people would attempt all the skills she has in this routine....and there may be more to come...Everything looked cleaner, higher and more powerful since Visas. She needs to do something out of the side aerial...girl has got some serious power!! Good luck Shawn!
if you consider the fall on the switch leap a fluke (which i would) and add that lost point to her score (even without the added bonus she gets from that series, that she then didn't do (switch leap, layout stepout, back pike)) - just by adding 1 point back, she would have been 4th on beam. if she hadn't fallen at all, the score would have been in the 15's most likely.
She did amazing ! I think that she was a little bit nervous on the beam ! Do you guys think she will make to the olympics !! I hope so cause she's my favorite gymnast ! GO SHAWN !
I actually think she made progress. More solid. She improved her aerial; and I think she gets nervous every time she upgrades. But I think she's back :)
It is great so see other people that think the same way as I do! That second fall was definitely just unlucky, and everything else she did was so solid! I think its just the nerves, everyone expects so much of her. She's definitely back - I'm so excited!
Two falls of course, but great attempt on the new upgrades, great layout, and I love that she's added a second spin after her L-spin like so many top international gymnasts are doing now.
We have to remember that this is her first tome back on the international stage since Beijing 2008, she's done so well and everybody should be really proud of her.
I mean, yeh it wasn't her best cos she fell. But this is to be expected on a comeback; especially since she really only came back in 2010. You can tell she's going to better and better seeing as she's upgraded both bars and beam =). She just needs to get used to getting out there internationally again; it's normal to be so nervous.
Not a good day for SJ. She looked pretty tightly wrapped going in to beam. She has her moments, but USA has some excellent beam workers and Marta wants consistency under pressure above all, and she knows it.
@georgert Marta is too much of a hard ass imo. Shawn hasn't got the numbers yet-but she will by next year imo! She's done a great job overall on her comeback. She's not going to be a perfect machine every outing.
Honestly it really doesn't matter how many times she falls this year cuz the olympics aren't till next year :) this good, get the falls out now so we can look great for our first competiton next year!
I feel so bad for her that she fell, but she knows how to get back in the gym and improve more and more every day. She has all winter to be consistant and make things perfect again. I dont think this will hurt her chances at all for the olympics. She is working towards next year and she will turn some heads. Go girl!!
i'm so sad for her. she really needed to be consistent here. i still think she has a shot given all the injuries to team usa, but it will be tough. i loved her bars upgrade, too bad they didn't think of that in beijing!
