Thank you for the uploader and everyone..I am a Japanese who listened this tune long ago. In late 70s YMO was the top for me. I again and again and again (millions of times) listend to this tune. I still remember my young days. Lomg live Kraftwerk, Ultravox, New Order, and all the punks & train spotters.
man i had been lookin 4 this song but could'nt remember tha name of it.....so i thought about de la soul song 4 joe's apartment and it click me right 2 it....lol
damn i remember this joint my parents would play this all the time.this song got a lot of spin on r n b stations back in the day.baddest asian mofos around my dad use to call them
In a Interview "The Masters Of Record" Mr. AFRIKA BAMBAATAA recognized YMO's "Firecracker" like one of his favorites rare records, along "Godfather theme" by Hugo Montenegro, "Police woman" by Henri Mancini, "Echoes of Jerusalem" by Echoes, among others
I got this record when I was like 14...so the song is actually called "Firecracker" and not "Computer Games"? Is "Computer Games" actually just the Atari SFX at the beginning?
Wow!!!! This brings back memories like a mugg!! Happy childhood, fun-filled days! Football, scooter, bike, school yards! This song was hot, even on the back then what would have been know as the R&B stations!!! Still sounds good!
OMG! THIS Brings back soo many Memories and is a contributing factor in my musical Direction! Larry Fast, "Synergy" Kraftwerk and YMO are Massive influences in My Early Electronic Ear!! Thank You for Posting This!! :D
I've been trying to figure out who made this for a week now. I remember this as a young teen but never knew the title or the group so when someone asked me, I had no clue. Thirty years late I will never forget from this day on.
@supersharpshooter75 i like how she refers to it as "sampled".... "Sampling" is done by people of comparable talent and ability. Otherwise it's just stealing.
That's funny, because I was looking at Joe Hisaishi's biography on Wiki and that brought me to look at this band. Apparently he was influenced some by this band xD.
I bought this when it first came out as the single. I was like damn the album is yellow. It was to coldest shit I ever seen at the time!! A yellow record?? Damn
this is great, i listened to this back in the late 70s at a friends house, i couldnt hear it again untill it found it on youtube, bloody brilliant, knocks spots off jarre and kraftwerk
Brilliant! I posted this on FB and got no likes or comments. The week before I posted a Biggie track (Everyday Struggle) that got lots of comments. Admittedly both great tracks, but people at least here in the States have forgotten about some of the really legend groups/artists that made electronic music (of which hip-hop is a part) what it is. Cheers Japan, you've produced some excellent music over the years.
This song has been stuck in my head for years..it wasn't after a phone ap was able to tell me the name of this song. X_X Ate the back of my skull out trying to find it.
I have spent half my LIFE trying to find this! Thank goodness J. Lo sampled it, or I would never have found it! What was the B side to this, do you recall?
@dissident93 No clue. This album was before the NES, and I don't think arcade machines even had decent music yet at the time. I do hear a slight Asian sound in this music, though. Maybe they were just going along with synthesizers and did what they knew with music.
Actually, the arcades did have some influence on YMO's music. When this song was released in 1978, Space Invaders became a huge phenomenon in Japan (and in the US the following year). In fact, there's a version of this song that starts off with Space Invaders sounds and beeps at the beginning of the video:
watch?v=aHhYbVVDuoA
Nevertheless, YMO definately had a huge influence on video game music, as well as electronic music in general throughout the 1980s.
Dance Jam / Skate Jam!!! Sixth grade Metro Detroit Area. Been looking for this forever. Heard it in a mix on the radio last night and the dj said "What yall know bout that Yellow Magic?" I ran in the house and YOUtubed it. Hallelujah! In the top four of my favorite jams. Thanks for posting it.
This song is one of the few I would ABSOLUTELY run onto a dance floor if the DJ were playing it. Even if I had a broken leg, I'd still run. I'd be in pain, but I'd be happy. NO DOUBT.
@AvaAdaptor Thanks Ava. If I were to EVER hear that song on a floor, pull out your video cameras 'cause I would BLOW UP. That's a song I'd lose my mind on. Hopefully you're there when it happens.
