  • Too bad the reviewer didn't read the book.

  • This was a wonderfully perceptive review. She ought to be getting paid for reviews this good. Only interesting thigs about the movies were how incredibly bad Hilary Swank was and how incredibly sexy Scarlett J. can be, even in a horrible movie.

  • the black dahlia wasn't great, it focuses less on the murder case and more on the fictional characters in it

  • I too thought it was going to be just about Elizabeth, so I was quite dissapointed when I finally saw it. Then I saw it a second time and I started to really like Josh's character. He was able to show his vulnerability throughout the movie. And the unraveling of his and Kay's relationship was pretty interesting.

  • I dont understand how u can say De Palma's films are crap and difficult to understand, I love all his films, they are beautiful, sad and painfull, not difficult to understand unless ur IQ is 10. I dissagree totally and although I thought the film be different I am so glad to have watched it

  • what a boring ass movie the wole time i was thinking the movie was about elizabeth short but they hardly ever talked about her in it im thinkin when the hell are they gonna get 2 her like who the hell cares about someone that was inspired by it l0l im sure the tittle fooled alot of people

  • Wow, what a comprehensive condemnation - I was going to watch this, seems I had a lucky escape.

  • Brian De Palma's Scarface is considered "good?" Not by anyone who's not a wannabe gangsta rapper.

  • I completely agree with the review. This is one of the most boring movies I have ever tried to watch. I think I watched about the first 15 minutes and had to turn it off. A warning to those interested in the Black Dahlia case, the movie, and the book it was based on, only use the murder as a jump off point to tell the stories of other people, so you will be disappointed.

Yes, as the woman states, 'Hollywoodland' is a far better movie about another weird death. Watch it instead.

  • The movie is beautiful

    The movie is very confusing.

The acting is ok (but Mia was amazing!!!)

The casting is a bit off

Mostly I think the trouble is how it was marketed as a crime movie about Elizabeth Short when it really was more about the love triangle, that was a disapointment.

  • This movie sucked. When I first saw the trailer in theaters a few years ago, I thought that it looked so good. This movie had so much potential but it completely sucked. The actual crime was just as backdrop to the pathetically stupid love triangle plot. I knew that they were going to add characters, but they completely changed the case around, and even made up the murderers.

  • Agreed 100%. I'm reading Steve Hodel's book and am engrossed. In fact, James Elroy, after reading it, renounced his own theories and endorsed Hodel's, even writing the forward for it.

The movie was sloppy, hokey, and poorly executed. Hartman can't carry a movie on his own and even the gorgeous Johansson can't save this steaming pile of shit.

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • sucky movie, sucky subject matter

  • I agree with Butnettvicefan. It was indeed very terrible.

  • You look terrible before the camera - it hates you hahahahaha

  • This movie was poorly written, acted (with the exception of Mia Kirshner), and badly structred. There were a few flashes of brilliance, but on the whole, the film was terrible.

  • This woman's voice annoys the fucking hell out of me. She must have been watching another movie, because The Black Dahlia is a beautiful movie, despite it being very confusing and at times hard to follow.

  • Very sharp review.

  • De Palma is one of the few Visual storytellers left in the movies, staying true to the art of cinema since Silent film, just tuen the sound down you'll see why, most films are just photographed acting performances, he's also a genre satirist and a master craftsman

  • This is a delightfully blunt review.
