  • i say yes to prop 5

  • america needs to spend some money on healthcare that will help cutting costs on jails, they need rehabilition so they can stay out of jail . no wonder the people behave they way they do . there is no other way

  • Treatment has always been proven to be more cost effective and effective in general, in rehabilitating the drug addicted than prison.

  • legalize Bud

  • And thats the bottom Line, because Prop 5 says so!!

  • Vote Yes on Prop 5. It saves money, rehabilitates, and leaves more space in prison for the real threats to society such as: murders, rapist, robbers, child molestors, etc. It cost money for rehab but it saves money comparing to how much it cost to house each prisoner.

  • your waste of sperm,

    your not humane?

you type of people is what makes the country stupid!!

  • Learn how to spell asshole. Oh yeah...NO ON 5 BITCH.

Your blocked from replying back cock sucker!

  • i agree with you , you make alot of sense too bad the american political system doesnot see it this way

  • on a further note, legalize drugs

  • Yes on Prop 5!

  • Actually, you CAN rehabilitate people who don't want help: the success rates of rehab through the criminal justice system are HIGHER than the success rates of voluntary rehab.

This prop is going to save the state money.

What good does jail do an addict? At least rehab gives them a chance, and costs us less. In this crazy budget crisis, who really wants to spend billions of dollars locking up people who are mostly hurting themselves?

  • By the way, most rehab programs have a 5% success rate on average, the highest being near 20%. What test can I take, what program can I do, what area of my life can I say 5-20% is good? It's wishful thinking, but in a economic crisis, it's just not reasonable or smart.

  • I don't know where you got that statistic, but I'd bet if credible at all its sampled from the entire prison population with drug problems. We're talking specifically nonviolent offenders. And even so, what do you think the success rate for prisons rehabilitating addiction is? Try.. I dunno.. ZERO percent when there's barely any hope of release and they're be crammed in with hardened criminals that will forever provide bootlegged hook-ups! And retaining prisoners costs at least ten times as much

  • I interned for a summer at a prison and a jail for college and saw these stats right in front of me. I got to talk to some of the repeat offenders, they don't fault the rehab, or the prisons that don't have rehab, they blame the dealers on the outside in their neighborhoods. So, putting them in bars keeps more of them off off drugs. You ever watch a detox in prison? Anyway, it's a small sample, but it never the less shows that rehab doesn't work and it just costs money to make you feel better.

  • well wouldn't this proposition make it so that the drug dealers in their neighborhood get sentenced to rehab? Then when they come out they may be able to get on with their life with out dealing drugs.

If the drug dealers dont deal drugs then the repeat offenders will have no one pressuring them to buy drugs

also rehab helps them say no. It teaches them the harmful effects of drugs and tells them how to say no to a drug dealer. whereas a prison would increase their urge for drugs.

  • I would disagree, but point out that, that plan sounds great! I just wish it were realistic. If you mean to tell me that a Drug user doesn't know that drugs ruin their lives, I would say you're wrong. People know it's wrong, but addiction is too powerful. The recidivism rate for offenders going through rehab are almost identical to the ones who don't go through it. It's a waste of time, money, and it's sad. Staying off the streets is only way to stop them from using drugs. The safest way too.

  • If the recidivism rate is as low as you say it is then wouldn't the rate of recidivism be even lower for the people who dont go to rehab? Going to rehab at least gives them a chance to refocus their life. Isn't our government supposed to do as much as they can to help the people in need?

This proposition doesn't cost a lot of money either. It will save up to 3.5 billion dollars while spending only 1 billion. The prisons cost 10 billion to maintain each year. (you can look this up if you want)

  • lol No rehab is not the reason we have a 70% recidivism rate. If crowding is their real aim, then my not ask for a new prison? Oh wait, the same people block those proposals every year. Look, California's population grows by the day, but the prisons, jails, and hospitals don't; then they wonder why there's overcrowding. No one wants to have a jail in their back yard I understand, but seriously, people are not going to just stop committing crimes.

  • They are the ones who decided to get thrown in jail. You can't rehabilitate someone who doesn't want help.
