  • I like the container you use to hold the cut mushrooms... Where can I get them?

  • @OlympicClassDandy Mine are made in Japan from the 1970's but I'm sure you can find a similar thing in a Chinese or Japanese kitchen store. Thanks for watching and good luck finding the bamboo serving baskets.

  • @updowngroupfood Excellent, thanks! Very helpful and well-made video, by the way... Wish I could chop that well!

  • That was epic!

Wat kind of knife is that man?

  • @CAHYPEBRUH Cheap Chinese cleaver from Pacific Mall. Didn't cost much but it's sharp as a razor blade. Thanks for commenting and watching. Peace!

  • lmao he was showin off a little bit ^_^

  • @BeautifulTalent Only a bit. Never show off too much! Thanks for watching and commenting. Peace!

  • Love it, thx!!

  • @jamesjoetomo I feel the love. Thanks for watching and commenting. Peace!

  • Very informative and easy to understand video...thank you!

  • @mollytigger Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm glad the video helped. Enjoy your shrooms!

  • was just looking this up as my mom told me to peel the mushrooms and that has been what i've been doing lol it takes some time but it's not as hard as it sounds. peeling the outer layer off in effect cleans them. though it seems like a waste of mushroom i keep the stem and all waste not want not :D

  • @GodenPhoenix If that's how you roll - that's how you roll. You can use any technique you want. I think it was Paul Bocuse that once said "a little honest dirt never hurt anyone." Peeling would probably be the cleanest option. Enjoy the mushrooms and enjoy cooking with your mom. I bet she's quite the kitchen ninja. Peace!

  • tbh i havent noticed that big a difference between the stems and the rest of the mushroom and have always kept them in, i will try them seperate.

  • what knife u using???

  • yuh

  • @mariejyssicamegan Therapy!

  • fast chopping gets me off

  • @DurkaFoFurka The faster you do it the faster you get to finish. Thanks for watching and commenting. Peace!

  • @sparks199 Your comment really does something for me. Thanks for commenting and watching. Enjoy your shroooooms!

  • Wow, that fast chopping really does something for me.

  • im trying to get mushrooms to make me high

  • @BoostersUnited Shrooooooooooooooms!!! Thanks for watching. If you think there are spiders crawling on your face don't jump out the window. Just go to your happy place. Wooo-sah!

  • This guy is aswome!!

  • @AnotherBrickbitch Thanks for awtching and mocennting. Peace! Happy cooking. Keep it real son!

  • The water that the mushroom could absorb is really insignificant since it's already so full of water. And that little amount is going to dry off when it's cooked anyway.

  • @Youtomia What is significant depends on the person and how much they care. This is how I roll. You don't have to do the same. But if you want to see the difference cook a washed batch in one pan and a brushed batch in another. You will taste the difference. Peace! Thanks for watching and happy cooking.

  • Fuck it I eat the dirt.

  • @lekotar Ah dirt... Nobody liked the taste of dirt more than Ol' Dirty Bastard aka Dirt McGurt aka Ol' Dirty aka Big Baby Jesus, aka Russel Jones. RIP the ODB. Wu Tang is for the children. Peace!

  • Dude You Just Loooove That Cleaver Dont You??.. :P

  • @krahl272 That cleaver is +1 vs mushrooms + 5 vs Asian vegetables. Thanks for watching! Peace!

  • @updowngroupfood Did you just use RPG notation to describe your cleaver?

  • @kiminokami Yes but this cleaver only works in 3rd edition. i have not yet tried 4th edition. On a natural 20 it goes right through the mushroom and the cutting board. Next time you go shopping make sure you cast "protection from junk food."

  • Mushroom Master!

  • @ScuxItUp If I was into fishing I'd be a master baiter! Peace! Thanks for watching!

  • lol i thought these were different kind of shrooms hahaxD

  • @MEADOWSracing78 I guess it would work with those kind of shrooms too. Then you could pull the throttle cable on your big motor and see aliens and devil faces coming out of the exhaust. Thanks for watching. Peace!

  • @updowngroupfood haha that wouldnt happen and not for me lol i smoke weed!

  • Every scientific test every done shows that most mushrooms do NOT absorb water. It is nonsense.

  • @liuzhou Please cite your sources and present us with the scientific studies including the universities and professors who have published these studies. Thanks!

  • @updowngroupfood "I was skeptical about the mushrooms-absorb-water idea and so did the soaking experiments with standard white mushrooms for “The Curious Cook” back in 1990. I've since tried a number of others, and if you make sure to shake the water out of the nooks, fresh mushrooms absorb little if any water. I’d also say that since they’re already around 90% water, a little more or less isn’t going to make much of a practical difference in the subsequent cooking." Harold McGee, Food Scientist

  • @liuzhou Harold can do whatever he wants with his shrooms. So can you. However, they do absorb water and any other liquid you cook them in. Just look at the pan when you cook them. Harold may love to B.S. about food but I've never heard anyone rave about a meal he cooked. That says a lot about his cooking. Everything makes a difference in the subsequent cooking. Ignoring that fact leads to meals that taste average at best.

  • @updowngroupfood Don't be silly. McGee is probably the world's most respected food scientist.

"Just look at the pan when you cook them" Try cooking a batch without cleaning them at all. You get the same result. The liquid is already in the mushrooms - as McGee points out they are 90% water before you even pick 'em.

  • @liuzhou the human body is more than 90% water. So is every other living thing on the planet. That statement is meaningless.

  • @updowngroupfood the human body ranges from 45-70% water - with newborn babies having 70% water and this value steadily decreases with age to due the increase of fatty tissue.

  • @liuzhou Good Eats S8E15: Myth Smashers they do suck up some water but not that much about a teaspoon. you can find it on youtube if you like.

  • What kind of knife did you use? not the stamped forschner but the cleaver like one

  • @i986scripto It's a made in Hong Kong Cleaver that I bought at Pacific Mall for around $20.00 Canadian. If your city has a Chinatown with a real restaurant supply store (not a kitchen store) you should be able to find something similar. Cheap, effective, and as sharp as a razor blade. Make sure you try before you buy to make sure it cuts like a razor blade. If it won't slice through paper it's not the real deal.

  • VICTORINOOOX!!

  • never thought it'd be so satisfying watching a vid about how to cut mushrooms! Good info though, thanks

  • @asulei Thanks for watching. You're a superstar!

  • Good thing i watched this video before starting cooking XD

  • @icebeautike Good thing you like mushrooms! Thanks for watching and commenting. You are a kitchen ninja now!

  • just curious,

how did you wind up making these mushrooms?

  • @JOROZC707 I just cooked them in a pan with olive oil and butter. Mmmmmmm....

  • lol when you said you were gonna cut them at high speeds I wasent expecting it to be that fast

  • @JOROZC707 Fast = METAL! Thanks for watching.

  • awsome

  • @JOROZC707 Mushrooms are METAL!!!! Slice them well and you will be master of puppets in the kitchen! Metal out!

  • thn x 4 help!!

  • hw do i knw that the mushroom is fresh?last time i threw handful mushroom because they had pungent smell,so is the pungent smell normal sir?pls suggest!

  • @zartajasrar If they smell bad then they are no good. Throw out smelly mushrooms. This goes for all food. If it smells bad then chances are it's not good for you and should be tossed out. Peace!

  • very helpful thanks ...

  • @AkDoxed Thanks for watching and commenting. Peace!

  • Thanks a ton for the video. One question - would I be able to slice them with that speed using a chef's knife - I don't have a cleaver ?

  • @UltimateRajput : Yes. If you have the skill of a kitchen ninja - or kitchen rajput! Thanks for watching. Peace!

  • Thanks a lot!

I really don't know the proper way to cut it before so I normally use my animal instinct to cut them! XD

  • @DrVyruzz You're welcome. Enjoy eating your healthy veggies! Peace!

  • Cool cuting

  • God is great and so are fresh veggies! Thanks for watching. Peace be with you.

  • i though i was watching a ninja sword fight.

  • Just wait until your dog learns the way of the ninja. Thanks for watching. Enjoy many walks with your dog and happy cooking!

  • what shrooms is that?

  • White and Brown. The most common ones.

  • try champignon

  • I will if I'm in Quebec. Most North Americans outside of Quebec only speak English. Merci!

  • nice knife skills

  • Thanks. One day my power level will be over 9000!

  • This video is awesome!

  • Almost as awesome as jumping cats. Thanks for viewing!

  • wait............DONT wash them? I thought mushrooms grow in.............manure......shouldn't that be washed off? like, I understand how it effects the texture, but isnt that a minor compromise in comparison to possibly consuming ecoli?

  • Mushrooms are grown in a pasturised substrate that conains manure. Much the same way as a farmers veggie field contains manure. Once the substrate is processed and heated past 71 degrees C all ecoli die. If you're paranoid cook all your food to 71 degrees C and check it with a food thermometer.

If ANY food item comes into contact with unprocessed manure or human waste no amount of washing will save you. You are more likely to be infected with strains of Hepatits though ecoli is also a worry.

  • So, technically, could you eat a raw mushroom if it has been brushed off properly? (im not going to eat a raw mushroom, im just wondering if TECHNICALLY, one can eat a raw mushroom saftley)

  • Yes. Much the same way you could eat any vegetable from the garden if it has been brushed off. The foods that will most likely get you sick are grown in California or Mexico. Cheap farmers don't provide toilets for the migrant workers. They poop in the fields. Sprinklers come on and spray the poop onto the veggies. You eat it and get Hepatitis.

I avoid buying California or Mexican produce.

  • California and Mexico? I've heard things about Chinese produce as well.

But then again, here in Alberta, we import everything(cant eat texas crude oil), so it's hard to find out where our produce comes from. AND sometimes, they just flat out lie! I saw a CANADIAN MANGO! What the heck is a Canadian mango?! Mango is a Tropical fruit, we dont have the climate to grow that fruit, nor would anyone set up a green house that's large enough to grow a large quantity of mangos!

  • Instead of a lie I'd say it's a minimum wage employee putting the wrong label on the shelf by mistake or out of laziness. Don't shop at a huge supermarket. Go to a good "Mom N' Pop" family owned business. Their produce manager should be able to answer all questions regarding the source of the produce.

If you're in a more isolated area and have to rely on the main supermarket there's no reason why you can't get to know the produce manager there. Buy him a six pack and shake his hand.

  • Veggie cleaver...where's it from (I want it)? Nice vid, glad to see someone respects the shrooms. Can't begin to tell you the places I worked at where they couldn't give a hearty shiat about properly stemming them,

  • A cheap $20.00 Hong Kong stainless standard cleaver from Pacific Mall. If there's an asian mall in your area they should have them. Make sure it's from Hong Kong and test it on paper to make sure it's razor sharp before you buy. Don't buy from a regular store. Buy from an asian restaurant supply store.

    Food will get Owned!

  • Great vid. I think i'll try cooking the stems this time too.. I used to always just bin them! Whoops!

  • Should go well with a chicken Kiev. Thanks for watching! You are on the path towards becoming a kitchen ninja.

  • Just what I was looking for!

    AWESOME!

    Thank you!!!!

  • You're AWESOME! Thanks for watching and commenting. You're on your way to becoming the U.K. kitchen ninja.

  • Were you able to cook all those mushrooms?

  • I cook or eat everything I use in my videos so nothing goes to waste. That's not really a lot of mushrooms. Depending on how long you cook them they shrink quite a bit as the water content leaves them. Plus I never eat alone.

  • Excellent video!!

  • It's better than the one by that mushroom stuffer... You know who I'm talking about. Thanks for watching and enjoy your shrooooooms!
