@Ram2253spd Heya Ram!!!! Well....The factory edge worked just fine on it, but it did work better after I changed the profile a little. Slightly more blunt with less radius and a good filed edge. Just be sure to roll off the burr after filing and if it will cut a piece of corrugated cardboard fairly easy, it's plenty sharp enough. I'm just anal with all my blades hair splitting sharp. To achieve this, sharpen further with a nice Arkansas hard stone. Angle is everything. I'll try to get a vid up.
Hey Bro! Ever notice how much esier it is to split frozen logs. Most of what I have is white Ash.Remind me to send you a pic of Mike's home brew splitter.Cheers
@23mrcowboys Light swings and a light axe my good friend! It's 80% of the reason I piked this camping axe. Long handle and light weight. I can actually split my kindling just lobbing the axe down. What gets me is picking up the pieces. Need to make one of those grabbers you see advertized on TV...lol
I like to use a tire and/or a bungee to hold several logs together in a bundle. Then you just whack n whack n whack the bundle without having to constantly having to pick up the pieces between whacks. This also keeps your blade from sticking in your chopping block. Works pretty nicely.
@oologahan That is a 6 and a half foot tall wind chime I made for my Mother 10 years ago and I actually tuned each "bell" to Westminster notes. It was a fun project and a constant reminder of how lucky I am to still have my Mother with us. Thanks for stopping buy my Friend!!
@805ROADKING You really don't even have to swing the axe very hard either. Just a light tap splits that sugar maple pretty good. Same with using cedar. Good to hear from you my Friend!!
@More350Power I'm just real anal about all my blades. If they won't shave you, they're too dull...lol. I go probably 3-4 months between sharpening so long as I haven't hit concrete a stone or imbedded metal fencing.
@ZippoVarga Im lucky if I can get an edge to make a dent, lol. I have a nice hatchet and an axe I would like a nice edge on..... just not that good at it.
@BornRandy62 Thanks for that Randy! The only thing you have to watch out for is where the pieces fly. I wear safety glasses after a close call a couple years back. Thanks for stopping by Bro!!
Great tip! How about a video on how you get your axe so sharp to do that? I would like to sharpen mine.

this is how it is done. when it gets to splitting wood any method that works without tearing up the equipment or making somebody bleed is a good way
