If I ever hack a Mario game, first thing I'd change is make the princess in the first castle. Sure it might make the game shorter, but still, Peach can finally fire those good for nothing Toads seeing how they have been only useful for telling that she's in another castle.

Second thing I'd do is make a room where all the bosses appear at the same time. For two reasons, one it makes the game THAT much more fun. 2nd, it'll scare the sht out of my brother!
